Sometimes HDR isn't implemented well in a game, but that aside, I'm convinced that the people who routinely turn off HDR have a poor display for HDR. My old TV went up to 400 nits but tone-mapped 4000 nits. No HGIG option. HDR just engaged a higher backlight level which elevated shadows, leading to less overall contrast and a worse-looking picture.

The game looks amazing on Pc man as I’m playing with the max very high full Ray tracing with all high settings except textures on very high, and global illumination on very high and I’m running 1600p with dlss ultra performance and it looks so good as it’s the best looking game I’ve ever played all while ruining around 90fps with frame gen enabled on Rtx 4070 laptop with i7-13700HX……. Those with even more powerful Gpu’s can easily use better dlss such as quality for example and it’s gonna look even better so I’d say give it another chance as it actually looks very good and probably best looking game ever made to date, and the gameplay is Awesome all the same as this is easily gonna be game of the year !

Not only the game lacks HDR but it uses some terrible UE sharpener and there are a lot of haloing artifacts everywhere, but it becomes less noticeable the further away you sit from your screen. That's the only explanation I can give to myself to kinda understand all the people saying that the picture looks amazing. Come on, there are ghosting artifacts, sharpening artifacts, strange dithering noise which DF pointed out, how could this be considered to be OK?

I find it funny that people say they're not going to buy a game because it doesn't have HDR support. Therefore, I guess that they don't play any games from the past 40 years prior to the previous 10? Most people don't care about HDR because they don't have TVs or monitors that will really show it off. I love the way it looks but I don't need it. And I love having nice graphics. But I'm not going to not buy a game I like because it doesn't have HDR. That's kind of silly. But I understand why people like it a lot. That's just my thoughts.

The thing is that HDR is broken in Unreal Engine 5.0. It makes weird things in the UI of the game. That got fixed in UE 5.3 but the game is using UE 5.0. So the only way to get HDR natively is them to update the engine to UE 5.3 or find a workaround to fix the UI in UE 5.0 HDR. Sadly it's not a simple update.

Black Myth: Wukong is a great game with epic graphics but the most worst game with technical side. Quality mode with uncap 30fps on 60Hz container WTF it is insanity! Second mode is Balance with 45fps cap also 60Hz, so we can forget about VRR. Last mode is Performance with 60fps (unstable) target achieved by dynamic 1080p and Frame Gen what makes it unplayable due to great inputlag! I think PS5 is not ready for Unreal Engine 5 games, maybe PS5 Pro will be pawerful enough. My RTX 4080 also has trouble with the 4K Cinematic + DLSS and RT OFF setting to achieve a stable 60fps. The game needs a lot of patches like infamous CP 2077 or Jedi Survivor. Missing HDR is another shame.

This is why I own an lg gp950b monitor too. I play my sweaty multiplayer games on that along with games that don’t support hdr cause the image in sdr feels correct and still pops. I also own an lg 55” g4 and man when games don’t support hdr they look like ASS! Super dim and it is not it. Recently tried the aw3225qf qd oled monitor too to see if that was any good and guess what…ASS! My lg gp950b ips monitor in sdr had a more poppy less washed out image in sdr then that thing had in sdr and in hdr, screw your perfect blacks when the entire rest of the image is washed out looking and dim. Honestly oled still seems to be this massive half ass’d work in progress. when a game supports hdr correctly it’s the best experience you can get and it feels next level. When it doesn’t congrats, 2600 dollars on a 55” tv that will throw out this dim dark picture while playing video games. Tv and hdr games are great on oled but using it for any sdr games sucks ass.

Randomly tried changing the black level setting on my LG CX from Auto to Low. MUCH happier with the picture now. Can’t explain why but it’s all less washed out. Had to recalibrate picture/brightness in game menu after too, but it’s so much better now. Any idea why this could be? (You’ll prob say it’s my perception but, seriously, give it a try!)

Starting area at 60fps is pretty good, but framerate drops will happen, into the low 40's when lots of effects on screen. VRR can't even help us when frames are dropping so low, it's meant to get worse further into the game.

With the picture mode selected in the settings menu you can enter 1113111 on the remote. On EOTF click left 1 time for HLG. You can also still select hdr tone mapping if you like. Just don't forget to change it back before you close close the game.

No HDR, you need a slap a blur filter over the entire picture because it's so oversharpened otherwise.. and raised blacks? Awful. Also the ""performance"" mode on PS5 use framegen, so there's no real 60FPS option for consoles.

I don't know if OLED makes a difference? The screen is 32:9 and the game is 21:9 so I always have black bars on the side for reference and the blacks in the game seem very good with a lot of detail.
