I think you’d loooove Lane Boy! It’s all about them struggling with the balance of doing what they want and still being successful, as well as the pressures by the music industry to stay in your lane. Edit: This song was actually on the same album as Stressed Out, the song that gave them commercial success. So it makes sense that he didn’t expect it to end up on the radio. And as far as I know it didn’t get a lot of radio play.

He’s basically saying he’s Fairly local to everyone battling mental health issues and saying he’s been there before as well. “Ive seen the streets you’re walking down” First verse is Tyler singing his point of view of batting against blurry face(his alter ego), second verse you can hear his voice change into BLURRYFACE, so the second verse is from BLURRYFACE point of view battling against Tyler as Tyler is trying to defeat, BLURRYFACE, and all of his own insecurities, depressing thoughts, mental health issues. You also heard blurry face singing the last verse of Stressed out, when Tyler‘s eyes turned red. The song was not played on the radio. Lane boy should be next without a doubt..

@@johnnymayweather7476as well they weren’t huge huge when this album came out. This was their breakout album. So he didn’t expect his music to catch on like it did. Figured his style was so niche that the fan base would remain small but faithful and genuine.

The ‘fairly local ‘ , I believe is not so much about a location on the planet, but in the mind… but that he still battles the emotional battles today that his fans (and every other human being battles). In short, speaking to anyone who is listening, “you’re not alone, I’m with you… I’ve walked those scary dark places of your mind as well.”

"Ode to sleep" my man - it may seem like they were always big, but they did blew up in short amount of time, something that Ren is going through now. For them it was " stressed out" for Ren it is "hi ren"

As a lyricist, Tyler is on another level. His use of typical rap tropes like double entndres, alliteration, and metaphors is very good, BUT the philosophical and metaphysical content of it all is reminiscent of classical literary giants. The fact that he does all of that while putting it to the most accessible, pop/rock music you can create shows just how talented the kid is. On a related note: every album of theirs is also a sort of concept album that tells an overarching narrative. Great stuff, and this is from a metal fan .

my interpretation of the "I'm fairy local, I've been around, I've seen the streets you're walking down" is that Tyler is saying he's familiar with bad mental health, he knows what people with depression and anxiety are going through
@nikita8370 Жыл бұрын
W for you, BP! You caught the gist. There's a good bit of theme related content in this one you'll start to pick out more easily the more familiar with TOP you become. Here's a few: The first and second verses are the battle between self and self doubt, or whatever struggle you wanna put in there. This whole album is a concept album where Tyler explores that battle with self. He's named it Blurryface like the album title. (Later, he'll be known as Nico.) Any time you hear a pitched down vocal, that's Blurryface speaking. The black paint on his hands reps his music writing and performing abilities and on his neck reps his singing ability. We, the Clique (the fans), are the Few, the Proud, and the Emotional. We're also later known as Banditos. It's a whole thing. As I'm sure has been mentioned, there's an entire lore that surrounds this music and really enhances the stories and messages. Dive in as you can, but we'll happily fill in the blanks along the way, no worries. Just a starter tip, color symbolism is also important - Red is Blurryface/the Bishops, black is the insecurities, yellow is the Banditos, the color of hope and friendship. The Bishops can't see yellow, just like when we're in our self-doubt or dealing with our inner demons/struggles, we have a hard time seeing hope, friendship, help. I would suggest Message Man also from this album. Lane Boy, Car Radio, and Ode to Sleep are musts. Actually, ALL TOP music is phenomenal. They don't miss! FPE, baby! |-/ 💛

Yo BP!! I hope you’re doing well. Just like Ren, I think Twenty One Pilots is their own genre. Tyler is also insanely talented. I love that you’re getting into their stuff. One of the things I love about them is from one song to the next, they can have a completely different sound. And the layers of depth to their lyrics is insane. Tyler is also quite open about his struggles with mental health, which is close to my heart. I really hope you continue to react to them. 🖤

This album, Blurryface, is really the one that blew them up. So when he wrote that it would never be on the radio that was probably realistic to him. I’d love to see you react to Neon Gravestones.
@SomewhatSkating Жыл бұрын
I’ve always heard this as a double. “Fairly local” but also he subtly drops the “al” at the end and could be heard as an “o”, aka “fairly loco”. Which doubles up the meaning. “Fairly loco” means he’s just staring to go crazy, and a lot of us that connect with him are going through things that make us connect with that, while also saying he’s “fairly local” which just adds to the fact that he is in the same “neighborhood” as us and is dealing with the same mental issues. That may not be intention of the lyrics at all but I just feel like it is very fitting for the song. I’ve always felt this is one of his better songs to connect with his fan base.. next to Guns for Hands, which you should definitely check out next!!
@ericstockman7405 Жыл бұрын
They released this as their first single from Blurryface but intentionally didnt put it on the radio - i think that line also means this message is never going to be understood by the masses like the mass appeal music - only people who have the same issues he does will understand the song (the few the proud the emotional)

I always took the "this song will never be on the radio" to have a dual meaning. 1- that pop radio doesn't embrace music that deals in deep emotional topics or only exploits it in ways that destroys the actual message. And 2 -that this is the voice inside his head, his inner demons taunting him as he makes music. Like, why are you doing this? You're not good. You're nothing. They won't even play this on the radio. Even after they'd achieved fame and success, he still struggles with imposter syndrome. That his music is bad and not worth it and that it isn't reaching people the way he hoped. That it was only reaching said pop radio fans alluded to above. Tyler always struggled with the success of the Blurryface album bc it brought, for lack of any better words, more generic pop fans to their arena, as opposed to the die hards who really embraced the messaging in the music. Which is actually what the song Heathens is about. The new fans meeting the old. Just my opinion though.

You need to pay closer attention to when each song was written/released. You're attributing global fame to songs that were released before they reached the level of success they enjoy now. There are so many subtle intricacies, and everything they do is intentional. Right down to the tape on their shoulder in 'Chlorine' that you mentioned. Watching them chronologically is your best chance at understanding or interpreting meaning, or at least what it means to you. There is no wrong answer.
