dave, thanks for showing how easy and safe (when done responsibly) it is to reload with black powder shotguns. this works great in my 410 survivor. just have to clean a little more due to the rifling.

It should. The cylinders on it are .45longcolt/410 shotgun, same as Dave's derringer. And since the judge is a revolver, you have 6 blackpowder loads ready to use! Or however you decide to arrange them -some .45, some 410 shells, some blackpowder loads...

In the states we are limited to 18inchs for a shotgun & 16inchs for a rifle. On the other hand we can have handguns so I guess it works it self out.

savage arms is making a 410/22. It does not have the storage area in the back though. I've read mixed reviews on it.

quick solution for now? you know you just need to take empty 20 gauge shells and insert new 209 shotgun primers into them(you could even buy 20 gauge target loads in bulk, cut them open, empty everything out of the shell and use that too), load the empty shell into the gun like normal and load like a muzzleloader. just carry around a few pre loaded shells and you're good, the hull only acts as a primer holder. calm down.

Thanks Dave this I find really useful. Could you do more close up tutorials on ammunition please? All im aware of being ex uk military is 7.62 nato 5.56 and 9mm - Being out the military a long time now and we in the UK don't have firearms permists anymore since dunblane incident. So hearing talk on calibres is all just numbers to me.. any chance you can do close up tutorials on ammunition... and choices and why etc? the UK may have firearms bans but I may not always find myself in the UK.

a good benchmark is using as much powder as the bore caliber, 410 caliber, 40-41 volumetric grains of powder. than load a equal amount of shot.

wish the laws against handguns here in canada were more lax, then I could own and use one of these small derringers, even just have it for a deterrent against wildlife would be a definite bonus, but sadly, not a option. closest thing we can have is a short barrel .410 or 12 gauge with a 12" barrel and full stock, plenty good, but still not as compact and light as that derringer.

The "O" ring appears to be "rubber" and if so will eventually wear. Would you happen to know if replacement "O" rings are available. Would be worth stocking up on a few of them as this will definitely add options to using my .410. Haven't researched it completely yet but by rough calculations it would be less expensive for me to do the black power than to buy .410 shot shells.

Becasue I dont own a single shot 410 I havea Stevens o/u 410 I bought this 410 209 adapter and a 410 to .22 lr adapter to make this gun more versitile. Dave what was the load of powder for this? And what size shot do you prefer for this? obviously the powder was P not RS but in the rifle I use RS.
