It takes quite of courage to go out there and play your heart out for 2 hours or more while re learning your discography from 30 years ago in your late 50s. Most of us don’t have to deal with that pressure and can do as many takes as we want at our own pace in our own bedrooms. Live musicians don’t have that luxury.

Listening to him explain how he got the job as metallica soloist then having to record1st album right away was so awesome. Saying how he had no effects and wanted each solo to be different from the last. Kill em all is exactly that, kirk Hammett killing each and every solo. Lightning only got better. It's all about creativity and composing for the song. And Hammett is a Master. Ok, a lot of people Play better, but yo need the soul , and this soul is shared with three other guys. Kirk is awesome with Metallica. And he is awesome at this. And this is more than enough for me . Like Ulrich, maybe not an awesome drummer technician. But composing (ajfa) is a fucking beast.

Kirk is such a polarizing guitarist. I think he just has a talent for making catchy and memorable music with a very recognizable sound. I don’t consider him a very talented guitarist for the league he’s in, but I love Metallica and what Kirk brings to the table. I do think that when he abandons the distorted boomer bends and basic alternate picking for a slower, more melodic solo his talent shows much more…such as the unforgiven, the first MOP solo and Nothing Else Matters. Most every heavy solo from him sounds like a half hearted improv jam, stuck in the same boxes and structure…but I still enjoy most of them.

I think the fade to black solo is the best guitar solo of all time. Gives me chills every time. I love fade to black. Also I think that is their best live performance of that song. The clip is from a show in 2018. I still think it's their best performance of fade to black to this day. I love metallica so much. Kirk is by far ine of the best guitarists of all time

People shit on Kirk WAY too much. Maybe he's lost his touch some when it comes to writing new solos and playing some of his old ones, but when Kirk was in his prime he was an absolute animal. He may not have wrote the most technical solos of all time but his speed and precision was pretty damn impressive in the day. Also, he's wrote some of the most iconic and catchy solos and melodies in all of metal. Just because he isn't someone like Marty Friedman or Jason Becker doesn't take away from Kirk's legend status and respect within the guitar community. P.S. Kirk had to keep up with James in the studio and while playing live, and we all know James' reputation as an insane rhythm player.

I idolized Kirk when I don't know how to play like them. I didn't like Kirk's playing style when I heard Megadeth sounded more complex and methodical. At the end of the day, their riffs and some notable Kirk solos made it iconic and I can still like Metallica and Megadeth at the same time. My favorite Kirk's guitar solo was Eye of the Beholder. Short but sweet.
