Blackberry Key2 Review! No one was going to be surprised, that after my experiences using the KEYone, that I was probably going to like using the Key2. Of course, evolution and improvement don't come without some controversy. The Key2 arrives with a higher price than its predecessor. Is there room in the smartphone landscape for a premium phone, sporting a hardware keyboard, and focused on battery life and security? Can phone enthusiasts only relate to gaming benchmarks? Let's take this communicator out for a spin...

I'm 40 (can't believe, but it's a fact) and started using cellphones with the Great SonyEricssons and Nokias and Palms and Blackberrys of the past, I know EXACTLY about what you talking when you say it's a phone for grown-ups, hahahahahaha. We're like some sort of inner gang. The old ones. Cthulhu! PS: I just love blocky smartphone designs in metal.

Great review. The phone is not for me but I have nothing but respect for Blackberry for releasing such a device when the rest of the manufactors pretty much just releases the same phone as the next guy with insane minimal differences. I miss the days where different products were made for different people.

It's the best not because it's pretty much alone in the category of physical keyboards. It's the overall approach, and design philosophy. Nothing stops other manufacturers to increase their focus on productivity. On full body screen phones, phones with keyboards, or damn flip phones. It doesn't matter. I know it might sound silly at first, but this archaic dinosaur is actually one of the most innovative phones so far this year. Seems like other manufacturers gave up on evolving an idea of a smartphone as a universal and ultimately powerful communication device. They just settle with whatever functionality they had 10 years ago and move on making bigger screens, more powerful CPUs, GPUs, louder speakers, fancy cameras, exotic designs. Barely anything innovative about that. Blackberry always go back to basics, trying to improve the foundation.

Do u think it's worth getting now in 2020 ,if I already have a keyone? Its like I want a IPhone XR ,but then I'll be with no keyboard. But with better audio quality and updated software. Confusing. Maybe I can wait for the new 5G BlackBerry.
@adityasundar324
@adityasundar324 3 жыл бұрын
@@monurajput5608 No, it is not worth getting the Key2 now because the hardware is dated and the price doesn't justify the hardware. Not just that, the Indian models are being sold by Optiemus Infracom and the India specific models are stuck with December 2018's android security patch level (there is some issue between BlackBerry and Optiemus). I would suggest you to wait for the 5G blackberry. Trust me on this, the keyboard on the Key2 is the best keyboard on any smartphone (even better than the passport). I have typed over a million words in a year and a half and that's solely because of how good the keyboard has been. I am pretty sure that the keyboard experience is only going to be better with the 5G blackberry. I would suggest you to wait until we get more information on the 5G blackberry, after which you can take a call. Cheers

@@adityasundar324 key2 has got the latest security update a month ago in U.S (albeit running on android 8 Oreo) . Why are the Indian manufactures of Key2 (opteimus) are not interested with security update? Such a nice phone with 6GB Ram and telephoto camera .
@adityasundar324
@adityasundar324 3 жыл бұрын
@@monurajput5608 There is some dispute between Opteimus and BlackBerry. I made a mistake of getting the Indian version instead of the global version. It is sad to see that it is the end Customer who is affected. The camera in the Key2 is below average to be honest. The pictures are comparable to a flagship Android from 2013± There is nothing special with the telephoto lens either. But the phone is very good for productivity. I average close to 2k words everyday and it gets work done. Hopefully the new partner who is releasing the 5G blackberry next year does a good job.

I really wish they would make a Priv 2. I still have my priv and don't want to give it up for this key2. I really don't like the idea that the key2 keyboard is always exposed. The slide mechanism is enough to enhance the experience of using the touch screen vs the keyboard. This key2 design makes it look like an old clunker. It may be more powerful, but try putting a super powerful engine in a 20 year old Buick or Saab...who the hell would want it?

The thing about hardware keyboards is that they the engage your tactile skills more than a glass keyboard. What happens is that eventually typing becomes easier because your brain automatically FEELS its way around each key (You're not looking for the keys because your brain has been trained to find the keys by feel after typing for a while). When I was using the BB Bold I remember struggling with it for the first few weeks and then typing long emails became a breeze, far easier than a glass keyboard.

Just got a key 2. It's funny how I was able to jump right back in typing on a phone keyboard again. Accuracy is greatly increased. I like the feel of feeling like I have a portable pc keyboard for emails and texting. Key 2 is snappy and the camera is not as bad as everyone is saying. Lastly, I recommend loading Nova Launcher and performance will greatly improve. All in all its a great phone with great battery life and in a world where all phones are looking the same, it's nice to turn heads with a BlackBerry.

The issue / lack thereof is that the only device to compare this would be it's predecessor ,since no one else actually targets this niche market ,and if compared by pricing alone the Key2 would not stand a chance. BlackBerry has this unique opportunity to show that they listen to their loyal customers by releasing the new device with the mandatory spec bump along with the small details like the size of the keyboard ,Poor RAM management /lack of sufficient RAM ,and even add more general crowd pleasing stuff like a good DAC and decent camera software (not top notch, but still gets the job done with auto mode ),and so far with the Key2 they seem to have done so ,perhaps solidifying and even maybe expanding their existing consumer market. If they continue this cycle of listening to their consumers along with their sharp focus , they might solidify their presence once again ,hoping to see more good work from the team at BlackBerry and TCL. (Also i didn't get notified of this upload as well, despite having notifications on )
@SomeGadgetGuy

This is the dangerous time. We see they can iterate and improve. It's when a brand moves into generation 3 that I think more consumers will be taking them seriously, but they HAVE to keep up the pressure on advertising and outreach.
@AdityaAnil
@AdityaAnil 6 жыл бұрын
yeah , i remember the S2 gaining a lot of traction and the hype transferred to the launch of the S3 as well , i totally agree they need to aggressively advertise this and their future products in order to grow ,their current ad seems perfect ,short with the nostalgia factor bearing a lot of the weight .Also perhaps incorporating their community more into the conversation kind of like a hybrid enthusiast brand ,where BlackBerry doesn't let go of the reins entirely but keep it flexible enough to gain and maintain an interested and active audience .

Oh man. This was a really great, fair review. I wish I had seen it a couple days ago - I was debating between the key2 vs google pixel 2. I went with the google pixel 2 because I was afraid the key2 would be merely a decent phone with a keyboard on it, and at that price I want a great phone. Plus, I've been worried about the whole lag thing. And it seems that other reviewers say the key2 is a good phone when you have another phone (w/ a better camera) in your other pocket - who can afford that!? I can't wait to see long term reviews of this phone. Thanks for the good content

I love this video. For those folks who like the "V-Boards" as I like to call them, we had the Motion. 4GB of RAM with 32GB of storage and a 4,000mAh battery. Great display and ran most games to include Fortnight without skipping a beat. BlackBerry Mobile made a phone that is twiked for productivity and is very game and media friendly too. Mine still out paces my Key2 on battery life.

Tempted in getting a key 2 to review and test out to see if it's still usable today. Would love the nostalgia feel but curious if it would even be usable since it never got past Android 8.1. Not sure if Google voice, maps and their Blackberry hub just using my calendar and Gmail and Outlook and texting would even still work. What's your opinion if it would be worth picking up just to test our? And prices are way too high which is crazy so will have to find a good deal.

Hi, could you please tell me if that BlackBerry KEY2 is really dual SIM cards, does it really have compartments for two SIM cards plus an SD memory card? Someone told me that it claims to be dual SIM card, but if you insert an SD memory card then you can only have one SIM card?

Can you tell me how the hub integration is? I'm BB Z30 user now I'm using Samsung note 5 and I installed hub in it and I'm completely not satisfied. Whether it will be same in BlackBerry android phones also or not. Please tell me as I'm planning to buy a BlackBerry android phone.

If we not looking for sound quality or camera quality or other qualities, why the heck I’m going to pay almost $600 for a phone, that brings a hard keyboard, a small screen instead of whole screen? Someone at BB it’s on drugs, for real!

everyone talks crap about the screen quality in direct sunlight... i have the galazy 8+ and i can't see SHIT in sunlight on this phone LOL so.... sorry but to me it's not any worse than any other phone really. The only phone i have not had a issue with when dealing with sunlight was my iphone back in the day and i hate iphones... so screen quality in sunlight is not exactly one of my main concerns.

I see Juan upload a new video. Hurray! Click play. Search in timeline camera review. Nope. No audio review, no video review. These two are trademark of Juan. Where are they? On a obscure site I don't want to visit. Me and 90% of people here. So I hit stop, dislike this video, go to other review. Sorry Juan!

My KEYone has been great. The Key2 seems to have addressed the few weaker points and I look to see if it will run on VZW here in the states now that they are finally going away from CDMA. One point I was surprised by was that TCL did n't move the power button to a recess on the top? Most BB fans would have been more comfortable with that...

I just rebuilt my Key2. I cracked the screen back in Jan, 2021. I found a brand new outer shell with everything within except the mother board. Had a tech swap the components, as needed and a brand new Key2 was made!... I paid $50 for labor and 30 bucks for the outer shell, keyboard internal circuits and a new battery (all within the outer shell found via Ebay). I also use the KeyOne for as a work phone. I am going to hang on to these as long as I can... I cannot "upgrade" to the Titan Slim as it is hideous... The only phone I can see myself upgrading to is the Galaxy Flip.... But, I just cannot let the qwerty KB go! Titan Slim = 329......My Key2 Project = 80... I think it was worth it.. Hopefully I get longevity out of this rebuild. Keep well, J from NJ

the price I couldn't pay this price, that's 1400 dollars in my currency. So I bought the keyone for 345 and that's 700 my currency... but I love the phone alla ound. You know whats aweomse? I can use swype on a physical keyboard!! When I have the phone in my lap, and a drink int he other hand, you thought youd have to type with one finger awkwardly? NO! Enable swipe like software keyboards and glide your finger over the keys and voila, swipe on a physical keyboard!

Blackberry should have developed and marketed an android blackberry passport and marketed it as a keyboard and touchscreen mobile and tablet and ebook with a screensize to watch netflix and spreadsheets. They could also have incorporated a mini projector as a novelty feature and a large 500 GB storage capacity. Doing so would have knocked out ALL the competition but seemingly these days the management of Blackberry lack imagination

I want exploding pop-out colours, gaming, looks, video's, movies, pre-installed instasnapbook+, and use it primarily as a (selfie)cam for partying: iPhone, Samsung, or similar. I want a phone that gets shit done. Looks adult, doesn't shatter in pieces when it falls to the floor without cover, write, call, trustworthiness and dependability. I am the person people mock but drives them home because he's sober and can afford a car. BlackBerry it is.
