Tbh much of blackfish is full of things that stopped 20+ years, are categorically false, misleading, or unverifiable. There's an insane amount of info, websites, etc out there giving you information )(much of which you can verify) debunking a lot of what the movie says happened. While serving on the crew of a nuclear submarine for four years, I and my fellow bubbleheads encountered whales fairly often - while steaming on the surface we'd see brilliant white beluga and wright wales, a humpback once, and fast passes of some we could not identify quickly enough. (And wow, were the dolphins fun to play "tag," and "fly-over-the-sonar-dome" with!) While submerged we could hear them (sometimes from many, many nautical miles away), filling the boat with their eerie, beautiful, haunting and unforgettable songs and conversations. Twice we were "rubbed up against" by friendly giants, even though we were anywhere from 8 to 25 times their length, which means hundreds of times their overall size. We loved them! I don't know if I ever encountered Orcas. But watching "BLACKFISH" made me angry enough to re-enlist if I were still young enough, and could have the satisfaction of hunting down whalers and other predatory humans who make money by killing or kidnapping or otherwise destroying the lives of these magnificent mammals.

Most people never gave a thought as to how the Orcas were acquired and ended up living in a glorified bathtub. This movie marked the beginning of the end for Orcas and dolphins to be stolen from their wild habitat and forced into a life they never asked for.

When you watch the whole movie and they explain the part about Dawn and what happened that day, to me it's obvious that Tilikum was upset at her because she did not reward him for doing his trick (the fin wave) correctly. He did it correctly, but somehow missed the cue (the whistle) to stop and go back to her. Instead he did the trick all the way around the pool. When he got to her and expected the reward she didn't give it to him. I think that's why he attacked her. Thoughts?

I don't believe he intended to kill her. I believe he was trying desperately to send a message. He was quite restrained in terms of what he did vs what he was actually capable of doing. These animals aren't violent by nature. They're actually very sensitive and gentle.....(unless you're a food source). Clearly he was frustrated, but I don't believe his intention was to kill. Tilikum had developed psychosis over all these years of performing and the way he was le[y at night. Yes, at training, food is a reward. if they don't get the trick right, they get no food. I didn't have SeaWorld; I had Marine World -same difference- over in Vallejo, and to give them their credit: Thank you for giving us a chance to encounter these wonderful animals. With their massive attendance rates, these for-profit theme parks have done much to dispel the misconceptions and bad impressions people had about them -like shooting Orca's and deliberately offing Dolphins up to the 70's because they represented a threat to the fishing industry. Mission Accomplished. People are aware... Pretty sure by the time Free Willy came out the general reaction was 'aww' instead of 'augh!' At a certain point, the shine fades, and trends become old. Not just because interest has passed or it has become unfashionable, but outdated; beyond the values of the time in which we live. This is becoming increasingly barbaric. The industry is in its third phase. First there were the first small parks of the wild captures -notice how the ones that left that industry are remorseful now? Look at that sailor. Salty as all hell. Could probably browbeat bikers by toking up an old pipe and lifting just a single brow. The dude cried. That was an emotional highjacking to the degree where I have to high five the filming crew if they staged or manipulated it, but really feel horror if it was real! Second was the mass commercialization. The "Water Noun" "Place Noun" businesses outstrip zoos and adopt Disneyland/Six Flags-like crowds. A more professional business (emphasis on business) where with the higher standards came knowledge. Experience gathered that this was more difficult than thought -that's ok, overcome adversity by developing better practices and techniques. Right? Third... with rising bodycounts, and I count the Orcas and dolphins that die after an abnormally short period of captivity along with the people that are slain -if the animal contributes to the death directly, you cannot call it an "accident" without dehumanizing victim as well. They boast they do not live capture anymore since the 70's. No shit: Congress passed the Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972 (MMPA). Any further capture has to come from abroad -and the activists will rake them for it every time. I digress: the main third point is that with lessons learned and with corpses piling up, the industry carries on as before. This time with a breeding program where they hope to birth indoctrinated animals and trade them around -never mind ripping offspring away from their mothers. Mothers who cry long-range distance calls for their young -fully aware that little fin is not just going to the doctor. Cries their trainer say they have never done before. That is cognition. That is love. That is pain. That is a family being ripped apart. That is a performing animal exhibiting uninstinctive behavior we attribute to humans. That is... Slavery.

on a scale from 1 to 10 . how brutal or violent or shockingly unpredictable was this attack? like a 9.5 right. why is no one acknowledging this animal was PISSED and ENRAGED. just like a human would be when you set off a person who is already emotionally compromised and vulnerable. He was probably pissed because , you may find it hard to believe, because he was hurt and angry over what had just transpired with the food situation and dawn not acknowledging he had performed his behavior correctly. i would be so hurt by that if i had the mind of a child and felt intentionally slighted. i could be driven to doing something like that because i have already rationalized it as a reasonable act of retribution toward the person who has toyed with and fucked with my psyche. he may have seen dawn as a mom or nurturing figure but if your mom left you alone every night you might start to resent her and have conflicting emotions that dont help the situation of isolation and despondency.

That is sick. It makes me hate parts of humanity. Saying that, once the deed is done and those whales grow up, they wouldn't survive back in the wild. Also consider the children who went to see those beautiful creatures and how many of those children later grow up and become animal handlers and conservationists (which contrary to the film, do go hand-in-hand) and help rescue all kinds of animals. Sea World has helped rescue over 23,000 animals and it would be safe to say, most of the people that help who are also now employees of Sea World, went to Sea World as was one of those children. You can't make a solid argument if you've only heard one side, from one film
@AnimalLeftist11 жыл бұрын
Oh, please. Make up your mind. SW has NOT rescued 23,000 Orcas, and yes, I know you didn't say that. How many animals die during any wild captures that continue today? Your logic is so laughable, I don't know where to begin. My friends and I went to a few marine parks as kids, and even though we heard the schpiel about how much parks did for conservation, we couldn't help but SEE the tragedy of those huge wild animals in little tanks. Always been interested in nature, always interested in working with animals. Maybe SeaWorld needs to start training empathy into kids, as opposed to blasting them with loud music, and splashing whale toilet water in their faces. Are we doing operant conditioning on our children? Yes. Too bad common sense isn't taught. Orcas lives are shortened by captivity. But we tell them differently, and what do they care? Turn up the music! Deaden those eardrums! Judging by the state of our oceans, and our ongoing thorough destruction of it, and our complete disregard for it's unique bond to our DIRT, clearly, going to SW has done very little to "conserve" anything. Going to SeaWorld has simply taught most children that any animal can be caught and kept in a box. Not much education in that, unless you plan to become a puppy miller.

It would never of happened if you just left the orcas be instead using them for entertainment! that is not theyre purpose in life! why capture them? for pure entertainment and money its distgusting! i feel sad for the lost lives that had some kind of trained bond with them...very tragic all round

I hate how people say blackfish leads people to believe that the whales are still caught from the ocean. It clearly says 39 years ago. It clearly say 1970. They bring up breeding at SeaWorld using Tilikum. Come on.

+GUALLACOL you missed my point. I was saying that people tryvto say how misleading blackfish is. to me it's not misleading unless you're an idiot, this movie is the truth...

I mean I would love to agree with you and I did until I read through this comment section. Like.. all the hate this man is getting as if it's been a recent thing. It's so easy to hate but much harder to understand. They see him regret and say he deserves it and like uhggg gosh I watched it and I did clearly understand what they said. They talked about the history but many people... Don't apparently

NO Animal should ever be stolen from its mother, family and home, starved, forced to perform for food, live in chlorine filled tanks and made to entertain us, it's beyond evil, these poor beautiful animals are driven crazy, they suffer mental and physical abuse, RAPE, the amount of whales, dolphins that were killed during capture, transportation and in their prison tanks is horrific, if you can work at SeaWorld and abuse these sentiment beings, support the cruelty behind capture etc then you bring on your own karma, Flukes up to you Tilikum may your spirit forever swim free up in the shimmering oceans of heaven with all captives who passed before you
Horrified, the human race can be very inhuman towards animals and their own.

He actually died in 2015, so 2 years after the movie was made. I unfortunately don't know what was the cause I only saw a Facebook post by the producers of this movie. May he rest in peace, you can see the pain and regret and shame he felt.

Seaworld isnt a bad place :P they are the biggest rescue, rehabilitation, research, and education company in the world. Yet everyone goes after them? When other bad zoos torture their animals but thats ignored. And they did not do this because of blackfish. It was a business decision, blackfish was like 75% false and 25% true but reworded, and facts played around in a away to hurt seaworld. Its a disgrace that people dont do their research, they just watch a movie and think its 100% real.
@bigderekkeene8 жыл бұрын
people go after bad zoos in the same manner as they do Sea World. that statement you made is balderdash
