Simple. Stop capturing whales, forcing them to do tricks on command for profit. That doesn't sound too difficult to me.

+Marvin White yeah, look at horse racing. Dog racing. Hundreds of horses and dogs PER YEAR are euthanized due to injuries they sustain from racing for "our" entertainment. Point isn't whether an animal's life is innately worth something. Point is that we should be smarter than this and realize FORCING them into dangerous positions and making them do tricks and run till they're tongues are dragging the ground is not quite right. They cannot consent and you'll get owners swearing up and down that OH, they LOVE to run. I've worked at a dog track. I walked them and knew an owner and saw how their lives were. sad.

+Janine Robertson thank ye. There are a lot of people in the world that haven't outgrown their caveman instincts. Sometimes killing is necessary. Sometimes it's good to keep an animal in a zoo (if it is endangered to the point of extinction etc) but needless killings and making animals suffer for your entertainment is sad. Bull fighting is one that sits right at the top of my list along with big game hunting. There's no reason a person should pay thousands of dollars to go to Africa so they can shoot a lion and pose with its carcass while smiling proudly.

If someone took my daughter away I would try to drown them as well. Edit: I don’t think yall idiots understand, but when you take a baby orca away from it’s mother they become very distressed and can even go through depression and fits of anger. Orcas are intelligent, social creatures and need to stay together in order to stay healthy and happy. What I’m saying is this creature is not at fault-it doesn’t know what the hell is going on or what humans even are probably-all it understands is that it’s baby is gone and that it is unhappy and will do anything to get their baby back. Also, these orcas are placed into small pools of water all alone that is basically the equivalent of a cage. If you were in a cage for almost fifty years, without contact of someone of your kind or that could understand you-you would slowly go insane and eventually snap. What happened to the trainers that were injured or killed by these whales was tragic and I hope the families of the deceased find closure-but we should not be seperating these animals or showing them off like freaks in a circus. These are animals, not entertainment.

It's deplorable and SO sad. If seen or encountered in it's natural habitat, I'm certain that they would be calm and even playful with a person. Still, they are WILD ANIMALS that need to be respected and shown love and understanding. They weren't put here for us to exploit. Every trainer attack has been awful, but we need to stop this practice. If anyone disagrees with what I'm saying, then that's your right. However it doesn't mean YOU are right. I definitely disagree with one point. You have no idea how an orca would react to a person in their natural environment. It's a wild animal. They took her calves away from her while she watched, unable to do anything to stop them, and transferred/sold them to other parks. There is footage of her crying out for her lost calves. She was clearly and without question, distressed and upset. And yet....they continued treating her with that level of disrespect and cruelty.....yet they wonder why this incident happened? And they wonder why the incident with Tilikum happened? These animals are trying to send a message......one that humans are clearly too stupid to recognize. Their message is..."How do YOU feel when you're held captive against your will and have no means of escape? Do YOU like it???". This attack could've been avoided. The deaths of several park employees could've been avoided. And yet, people still want to blame the animal. Who put the animal where it is right now? It sure as Hell didn't get there on its own accord and of its own free will!

As much as I agree with you, most of these animals are born in captivity and unfortunately, trainers get them used to human presence and help with food. These animals, if let out suddenly in the wild would have enormous difficulty hunting food and socializing because they weren't taught all of the hunting methods or subtle social etiquette that most mother killer whales tend to teach their baby. I'm not disagreeing with you on the fact that these animals shouldn't be kept in these tiny bathtubs and instead, humans should adapt to their environment and not the other way around. I'm just pointing out the fact that if grown-up killer whales were suddenly released into the wild without any pointers on how to properly survive, they would definitely struggle staying alive.

Zoos are getting much better these days, and are being held to much higher standards. It would be great if poachers could all be given jobs in the eco-tourism industry (as they've done in some locations). Until that happens, keep supporting the most natural-like zoos and aquariums (not show-biz places likes Seaworld), which are making a great difference in the lives of many animals.

As much as I like that story, it's most likely not true at all. These Orcas don't love these people. They're predators, known for playing with their food, known for being smart, agressive, violent killers in the wild. He stayed completely calm, that's what saved his life. He didn't thrash around, he didn't give her the stimulation she wanted and needed to continue playing with him until he was dead. As soon as he started swimming away she followed, she wanted him to move, just like how a seal would. He was incredibly lucky that what she wanted was excitement and not just his death. I am amazed at how he was able to stay so calm, it must have been terrifying.

@@littlelou050 Orcas are intelligent. Yes, they'll play around with their prey in the wild, but they don't play around with humans. For some reason. The whale literally watched the trainer swim away fast in fear and did nothing. I'm sure if she was looking for stimulation, that was enough to start playing again, but nothing. @@emmanuelgathara696 I believe you've misunderstood my comment. I was not saying that she mistook him for food but that she was using him for stimulation like she would of he were food etc in the wild. You can see that once he starts swimming away she follows, I have little doubt that she wouldn't have taken him under again if he was too slow. Animals are incredibly intelligent, she knew that she held the power in that situation and he did too. The more stimulation that's given, the more likely he was too die because she would not have let him go. Humans can't survive under water for long and who knows how far she could've gone, she already crushed his feet. You have to understand the way these animals are treated in these places, they're given 0 stimulation other than those shows, are forced into everything, abused etc. They don't form an affectionate bond, they do not care for the lives of the people who've held them against their will. Humans have this irritating superiority complex and it has lead many to their deaths, shame.

“They are KILLER WHALES.” No there not. The reason why they got that nick name is because they are the worlds best hunters. They don’t just randomly attack humans, no human has died to an Orca in the wild. Instead why doesn’t sea world Amit that they bought a orca who had known anger issues and has killed three people prior, breed it and miss treats the whales???

Mark Vm You do realize that animals don't exert wild behavior at all? Their behavior naturally set as 'survival' mode, being survival of the fittest. Of course, all animals are smart, they do want to prove their point, but they know that humans are at the top of the food chain, harm could have been done to them that is worse than their trainer. It is not a stupid statement, it's a true statement.

It's Just Milk I Swear They kill people because they're kept in a fucking pool. Let's take a look at how many wild orcas have killed people, shall we? Captive orcas attack all of the time. It's Just Milk I Swear well why are captive orcas the only aggressive orcas? No orca attacks on humans have ever happened in the wild but plenty have happened in captivity. They know humans are in charge, they remember when humans stole them from their ocean home. "Wild animals" doesn't just umbrella all wild animal minds. Whales have very large brains and are very intelligent, each pod has its own language, etc. And they stay with family for life. When taken from their homes they are made aggressive. It's scientifically proven and also common sense.

bobby joe 1 bite? People are fortunate not to have been bitten more Orcas are intelligent, they will be picky with food, they want the fat, the oils, different pods socialise in their own way and depending on region they have their own hunting tactics and food source that they rely on, people aren't that nor are they encountered in a way that predation can occur on a frequent basis This generally prevents people from being attacked, if you were to swim around a hungry bull Orca do you think you'd be safe? I'd be shocked if you said yes There's also a draft from one of the people who survived the real Moby Dick story, a pod of Orcas had tried to wash them off a floe, interesting huh?
