I think an overlooked possibility is that Daemon II, may have been passed over more due to his seemingly ineptitude in the more martial tasks, the only joust that isn't rigged he looses and is quickly disarmed and arrested by Bloodravens forces, perhaps Bittersteel simply didn't believe that he had the prowess that was needed to lead a campaign against the targaryans.

THIS!!! As well as the fact that his plan was dumb, although the plan may have been a result of his lack of support.

True. Bittersteel is a veteran so I'm sure he'd probably be able to tell if someone has what it takes to lead an invasion

Perhaps Bittersteel was homophobic, I dunno. Or he thought their plan was really stupid and kinda doomed.

Daemon and Daenerys to me seems like Catelyn. Catelyn was supposedly in love with Brandon, but when he died she married Ned and did her duty. They had 5 kids and eventually formed some kind of love, but Cat still wondered what her life would've been like if she married Brandon instead whom she remembers fondly. It's deeper than that of course because of the whole Jon Snow situation. My opinion is that Daemon loved Daenerys, but like Cat, he decided to work with what he was given.

Aerea Targaryen has the worst death in my opinion. Absolutely horrifying, and the fact Balerion was injured too shows you how fucked up post-doom Valyria is

I think Daemon was in love with Daenerys but got over it by the time of the rebellion while at the same time never forgot/forgave Daeron for sending her away.

The whole Daemon wanted Daenerys thing smells fishy. Daemon waited so long before rebelling, and if Daenerys was a major reason for it, Daemon sure took his fucking time to do something. I call bullshit. It seems like it may have been a childhood romance between the two of them that just kind of faded away as both of them got older and became adults. I mean we actually know that Daemon went down to Dorne for a tourney and he got second place after being unhorsed by Baelor. There's no record (at least as of now) that Daemon made any kind of scene, no threats or drama, it seemed like he just went home lol.

Aerea, Heir to Maegor and Viserys, nefew of Maegor probably had the worst Deaths. And Aegon IV., but he deserved it. Also, Aegon V. and his family burned to death, that was probably also very cruel.

Things got hard and they couldn't get there. They got into a sticky situation during the main thrust. They used to be so cocky, but after the death of Sir Glendon, they didn't have the Balls.

Maybe if daemon was baelors son people would want to hide it from history to make him seem perfect and remove any of his negative traits

It’s Aemon not Baelor who is thought to have fathered Daeron II. I don’t think Baelor was having kids. Understandable sentiment, but Baelor didn’t have that great a reputation within the nobility of Westeros.

Perhaps letting Bittersteel escape would maintain an outside threat to centralize power...Perhaps the Targaryens let/orchestrated it?

I think Bittersteel himself was gay and felt ashamed and like he had to hide it so Daemon II being so flamboyant (for the time at least lol) made BS lose all respect for D2. Also D2 had dragon dreams and told everyone like he was proud of it and probably got 1-2 predictions right which I don’t think earned him any points with BS. As BS most like saw this as a type of magic/sorcery which probably reminded BS too much of his hated cousin to support D2. It’s also possible BS thought Bloodraven was controlling or tricking D2 (sending D2 the dreams in order to get them to come to westeros and fall into a trap). Which to be fair might be what was happening lol

We’re told Bittersteel loved Shiera. That’s one of the reasons Bloodraven and Bittersteel were always at each other’s throats.

While Bittersteel may have been homophobic, the blackfyres seem to have some toxic masculinity that looks down on kings that consult actual scholars and women rather than just hitting everything with a sword, I think in part Bittersteel didn’t get on board because the plan was such a long shot and the realm not yet sufficiently destabilized (though it was getting there). I’m interested to what extent if any Bittersteel even knew about what Damon was going to try to do.
