Joe Whitehead If you look at the modern political spectrum and other various things, then you'd realize and comprehend that most people still emtionally have a "one-sided" viewpoint on things, which also can apply to the subject of race in this case where some black people view all white people as "evil" and all black people as "good", and vise versa based on a nonsensical bogus reason.
@mus_tard21834 жыл бұрын
@@Wglass90 you're trying to "both-sides" this thing but that misses the point of the movie. the two groups had similar slogans and both talked about violence but the difference is that the white people had all the power in society and were therefore not under attack. "white power" as it's used is synonymous with the act of violence and the oppression of the other. The black liberators were acting extreme sure, but it was necessary. black power is not the superiority of the black race, it's a reaction to "white power". It's self defense. It isn't as simple as "both sides are bad". The difference is power. The black people saying "all black people are good" are out there sure, but they don't have political power. The white people saying "all white people are good" have A LOT of power. A lot of people portraying them as equally bad does harm to marginalized people and shifts the opportune window further to the right.

But we shouldn't cling on to it either, Americans shouldn't hate Russians because of the cold war, Jews shouldn't hate Germans because of the holocaust and black people shouldn't hate white people because of the slave trade. These are all things that modern people couldn't control and shouldn't be held accountable for, sorry if my message wasn't as clear as I intended it to be.

SNIPERLEGEND234 I just saw it 1 hour ago. This movie was soooo bad. The music was completely shit. All the jokes were in the trailer. I didn't laugh at all watching this. A lot of nonsense actions from everyone. 01/20
@Yinyang12776 жыл бұрын
laura vigne i dont believe you honestly. And the jokes were meant to be subtle such as chuckles if that not for you to crack up. You probably watched the movie with the mindset that the movie was a comedy and was disappointed when you realized its a serious movie describing racism and the problems people face even in a modern day society decades later. The movie was phenomenal not the best but most definitely got its message across very abruptly! Especially with the being based on a man who truly went through this bullshit to see his life being taken as weaker or a joke was the point. Its not a basic person movie. You have to truly understand the movie and thats not saying your incapable but, you clearly must not have comprehended the movie wisely.
@cherchehacknostale6 жыл бұрын
SNIPERLEGEND234 Man I was DAMN SURE it was a comedy. My friends sold it like this and it's ABSOLUTELY this trailer's fault too. I wasn't disappointed at all when I understood it was a serious movie but they could have done it a looooooot better ! Anyway, I knew it depicted today's problems with racism like the subtle reference to trump calling Ron a naive black person or the fact that today police officers also stand together even when one of them did a wrongdoing because they're 'family But there's too many nonsense decisions that were made in this movie I couldn't enjoy it at all. The only part on the movie which was powerful was the pictures and videos of last year's Charlottesville. Everybody in the room was shocked and since I'm in a European country, most of them didn't know that much of this bloody rally that occurred.
@Yinyang12776 жыл бұрын
laura vigne i dont blame you for thinking it was a comedy 1 bit. You see most people know who Spike Lee is in the director/ film industry and they know his work is very serious but he doesnt want his true stories to be too serious because thats no good either! If you know Spike Lee you’d automatically know what to expect but if not i can totally see how you’d expect the movie to be a comedy the first time i saw the trailer i missed the beginning so while watching it I thought oh itll be amazingly funny! The next time i saw it and saw Spike Lee and knew yeah... nevermind this is going to be an amazing informative movie. But, in the trailers defense you watching the movie ik you know why they didnt make the trailer look so serious. If they didnt #1 sales would be terrible and #2 a lot more drama would occur.
@Yinyang12776 жыл бұрын
laura vigne its fine im not going to try and force you to understand how Spike Lee works but almost all adults and parents know about Spike Lee. Hes very famous he makes his films interesting while telling a true story. The music was accurate to the time frame of when this incident occured so in terms of todays music sure its not the best lol but it was the music the real person probably listened to back in the day. The movie isnt so much about US to be entertained its more about learning and being aware. But once again i can see how you were disappointed as 16% of the viewers are the reason it didnt get a 100% and that 16% were most likely all thinking just like you! (Once again thats not an issue at all) but saying the movie was bad is just incorrect as it won countless awards and even was on the news about how great it was and he was interviewed constantly! So believe me the movie was amazing but, you have to watch it how it was meant to be seen. For me i have an AMC A list so if i was in your shoes id just watch it again for free but for you if you dont have it then id understand if you dont want to pay again to re watch the film! Film is amazing which is one of the reasons im currently taking Humanities in college (:

Spike, looks like you got a winner here. He won best director at the Cannes Film Festival this year.
@telesphoros6 жыл бұрын
if that movie wins anything, its not a reflection of talent, its a transparent money grab during a time when people are ignorant about race, theres nothing interesting here to me. what would be interesting and unique is if there was a black director who DIDNT make a race baiting movie
@telesphoros6 жыл бұрын
Stephen Shelley i would never read that book for the same reason, its a racial book written about a black man, by a black man.. again, i would be more interestes to see a black person focus ( for once ) on something other than race. how does this have anything to do with trump ? hes doing amazing things for black people right now and black approval of him has doubled since hes been in office, its people like you who i refer to when I say this is an ignorant time about race. and, judging by how you try to push your christian ideology on me about sins, its clearly an ignorant time about religion too
@telesphoros6 жыл бұрын
Stephen Shelley but im not talking about that book, im talking about black movie directors using race as a format. for example, jordan peele has said he will NEVER have a white protagonist. my point is that its not creative and it fuels racial tension. why do we need to make racism more relevant ? why cant we highlight similarities instead of being angry about racial differences ? (EDIT: can you imagine if a white director said he would never have a black protagonist ? he would be known as a racist, but why not peele ?)
@telesphoros6 жыл бұрын
Stephen Shelley i dont want to see another racist movie by spike lee and jordan peele, and these are not assumptions im making. trump really is doing great things for blacks , which you spoke ignorantly about and couldnt answer my question of what does it have to do with trump ? i also asked you what if a white director said the inverse of peele, that he would never have a black protagonist ? dont you want fairness and equality ? if you do then peele should be regarded as a racist for that position because hes basing it on skin color

Perhaps, I'm not as articulate as CineFix, but this is my casual analysis based on almost 2 1/2 minutes of a film. Writing: The writing seems to be based heavily on simple truths of a given time & place. We as the audience follow the facts and react (strangely) in very predictable ways. Whenever we're presented with a certain fact, they counter the argument for all the exceptions. Thus placing the audience within very simple patterns (and that's a good thing). It allows the team to entertain us. Staging: While the implied setting is the late 60s to mid-70s, there are no descript specifics of the time. This allows the crew to have some leeway with decisions. Why that's important is that in many films they often have unintended breaks of immersion because the wrong prop was added to the scene. The clothing selection based on the time and place is absolutely fitting. The predictability of the clothing and prop selection is archetypal, it is exactly appropriate. It is what we (the audience) expect to see. Failure to meet the expectation would be foolish unless the writer or director wanted a message that went so starkly against the expectation that it flawlessly led us to some unseen truth. Few books or films have ever done that well. A Time to Kill, A Few Good Men, or Shawshank Redemption to name a few. Direction: Initially, I thought the camera angles were predictable, but that doesn't mean they weren't good. They were. Because selecting the right angle at the right time is very difficult. Even taking a short clip and adding a gloss over it can take several hours. The overall direction seems implicit upon the facts of a struggling time within the US. While that can seem derivative based on the US's current racial climate, it isn't. We could say that about the release but not about the conception. Overall, I'm betting the film and script were created about a year and a half ago or perhaps even two years. Creating a project of this magnitude requires a significant amount of capital as well as cooperation. Simply, right place at the right time. Each detail of the film has been painstakingly selected. From the spacing, font selection, film palette, and even the sudden tones of the film transition perfectly adding to the pacing. Acting: Much of the acting seems very believable. We are faced with many expectations that are relatable to most people. While the writing seems simple, it had allowed the actors to really bring breath into it. We could probably do a scene by scene dissection analysis. Sound: Overall, the sound has a deep feeling. I believe the sound is mainly in D. The bass of the sound is designed to resonate. They use the same chords in historically classic rock, jazz, soul, and hip-hop. Similarly, the deep voices are intended to inspire trust. A good example of that is actors and politicians. While the music is a funky throwback to the 70s, you can tell that the mixing has a bit of modern flair from the flange and twang. With the sound FX & mixing, you can tell the sound has a distinct environmental sound like an open space; however, there are certain aspects of the sound where they deliberately made it sound crisper than it would in real life. I think that crispness brings a bit of extra realness to the cinematography. Summary: Under the given conditions of time, place, people and assets, make it seem real. I think the crux of the design is based on many historical archetypes & stereotypes that completely fulfill the audience expectations. That summary can seem very bland but few films can actually do that. The only other law enforcement movie I can think of would be grittiness of Training Day. Perhaps, I have it all wrong. What do you think?
