EDIT: A comparison to the latest and greatest C80 and C400 would be great. Thank you so much for this review. All of these other youtubers out there tell us how they liked the camera but barely compare any synthetic info. But in a review this is (against of the opinion of many of yall out there) incredibly important because thats the only way I can judge wether or not a camera can fulfill MY specific usecase. It may work great for yours, but maybe it doesnt for mine. Especially thanks for that rolling shutter comparison, I realised that the 3:2 Open gate and 6:5 anamorphic mode may be nice for anamorphic recording even up to 2x squeezes you'd get from Atlas Orion Lenses but panning with a 200mm 2x squeeze will give you extremely messed up results. But that'd probably apply even to an FX3 since 200mm 2x squeeze is a rolling shutter worst case scenario. But such slow rolling shutter definitely limits the PYXIS' anamorphic any other super fast pace capabilities despite its 3:2 open gate recording. Its probably better suited for less super fast pace camera movements. Its not a bad camera - its incredible. I'd definitely look at it as a B-Cam for now.

Great review, probably the best and more balanced I've watched so far, thanks! A list of things I think they really have to addressed however are: 48p but NOT 50p in 6K16:9 (guess the same for 17:9), only one codec available, sensor performances and readout not terrible but certainly could be improved, just ONE mini XLR (hope at least would be able to record simultaneously multiple tracks from the single xlr and the 3.5 jack), not rotating screen layout, it can't (as far as I know) record on both Cfe cards at the same time, NO tally lights (leds are expensive those days) and commands only on the operator side, moreover with a rec button that got locked as well if you lock the other keys. Definitely also need extra handle with rs functions and the bm external monitor (wish they could introduce also a slightly bigger 7 inches version with reduced bezels) to change the menu while operating the camera (even this you may not be able to use the bm viewfinder at that point. Glad your mentioned that despite the competitive price of this camera, it can't just be used as it is out of the box (somehow similarly as with Red cameras), those added cost to me putts pyxis more in line with other offerings from Canon or Sony.

If Greg Fraser loves BMD I don’t think I need pucker up to some agency or client to convince them of anything. As long as the tool (camera) has what is needed for the job, and my reel showcases what they want, that’s all that matters. This camera is fantastic.

For accessories, the BMD top handle is $200 USD, for just the handle!! There are third-party top plates and handles you could get that are combined at a lower price. There's also a sizeable jump in price from the no-frills pyxis monitor kit, to the mid-tier kit. IMO you are better off just getting a magic arm or third-party rotating mount and cheap USB-C cable.

Sold my 6K Pro simply because I didn't like the form factor. Far too big. Far too clunky. And because of that, I was always reaching for my Panasonic instead. But the Pyxis looks like an excellent alternative. And those skin tones and the overall colour science coming out of the Pyxis simply exquisite! I guess that means I'm getting back into the Blackmagic ecosystem again. Brilliant!
@buddyfx7026Ай бұрын
Why does no one (including CVP) point out the fact it doesn't have de-squeeze preview options? I know it's not available for the 6k ff but if it's not available with their monitor you can purchase, you really can't use anamorphics. And with a 3:2 sized sensor, that is a crime! Did I miss that part in the video? it's pretty long so I'm hoping I did :)

I would like to see the Pyxis and C80 compared. I think they end up equivalent in price when you consider the need for a monitor, grip/handle, and a rear ND solution. With the pyxis (or any box camera) its similar to the red ecosystem in that the cost of the camera doesn't reflect the cost to make it functional.

@cvp I had a genuine question, since I am planning to buy the Pyxis and a Digitalfoto Procine Steadicam rig together, I have been trying to figure out a solution to convert 12G SDI output from the Pyxis into a Steadicam rig which can only take a 3G SDI input, I definitely am not keen on blowing out any equipment so if there’s a solution then I would love to see that. I think part of a solution might be related to the viewfinder Type C port, but then I’ll have to put up 2 converters such as from type C to HDMI and then HDMI to 3G SDI converter I guess. I hope there’s an easier solution that I don’t know about yet. Thanks a ton in advance and thank you for a in-depth review as well. I had been eagerly waiting waiting for it.

Ok guys, lets be honest. I have been waiting for Pyxis for more than half a year, and I'm not alone. Many things have happened in the industry in the meantime and unfortunately, I`m already waiting for Fuji XM5, not Pyxis. Lest talk about prices and availability, ok? When (again) it Pyxis going to hit the marker? For how much? I'm an owner of EOS400D, BMPCC4K, EM10m3, OM1m1 and many m43 lenses. Many products have entered the market in the meantime - is BMD willing to correct their course? What are they going to do and when? I love the USB web camera functionality introduced recently in BMD camera firmware (my ATEM PRO ISO has been unplugged indefinitely). But what happens after that? Cheers!
