It would have been cool if they were investigating the abandoned Ghostbusters firehouse and accidentally released all the ghosts that were stored in the containment system. The girls found the Ghostbusters old equipment and decided to make their own.
@javiergonzalez13938 жыл бұрын
That's a good idea. If not that exact idea, then something in that vein. Something that links the new Ghostbusters to the original Ghostbusters. I like the idea that the Ghostbusters firehouse was now haunted with ghosts and that investigating it kicks off a new set of Ghostbusters. Also, the film should have at least had the original remaining Ghostbusters in it to pass the torch. It was sad to see Bill Murray, Dan Ackroyd and Ernie Hudson make unknown cameos in a Ghostbusters film. I thought, why bother even having them in the film at all if your not going to have them being the stars? It just shows that the makers did not know what the fans loved about the originals. A fan of Ghostbusters would have written a much better script than what these so called "professionals" did.

Oh my God, reading this just made me so angry - because If they would have used this idea it would have been AWESOME! It would have given you the feeling of a persistent universe and the cameos could have been more relevant. They could have even used the same actresses, because the women WERE NOT the problem with this movie. I think hollywood script writers are just lazy these day, especially considering people in comment threads can seemingly come up with much better ideas on the fly.

My only complaint with his review is his defense of the CGI. A $150M, summer blockbuster, should not have effects on par with the SyFy channel, or other made-for-tv movies. No, I have not seen the movie. And I don't need to. The trailers show off their crappy CGI just fine. Says a lot that a puppet/costume from the 80's looks better than modern CGI.

This guy snapped! Lol it is hilarious how people got divided on the issue and assumed you were for either anticipating or loathing Ghostbusters before it came out--even though you touched upon BOTH sides of the "issue" in your previous video. It comes to show how people will usually only focus on what reaffirms what they already believe. Contrary opinions are tough to stomach, it's understandable, but when a review is fair, it's fair, and it's kind of a waste to see it as one sided.
@shechshire8 жыл бұрын

@brucelaborin21248 жыл бұрын
Guess you didn't really listen to the review as well as you thought you did. He mentioned people like you giving him a hard time BEFORE the movie even came out. To say that a film is average is to say that it isn't great, OR awful. It seemed pretty obvious to me that he was confused how people could be biased against it by just the trailer. That being said, I had no desire to see the movie, BASED on the trailer. It just didn't look good. But there have been plenty of other shows and projects in the comic book and anime world of entertainment, that were all female cast, which I absolutely love. But this movie had nothing for me. Yet there WOULD be some idiot out there who would just ASSume that I were a bigot or sexist. The truth is simple, I just want to see good movies. I heard this one was pretty decent, from people I know. I may check it out on redbox sometime.

+Ryan “Maru” Martinez Are you seriously, yet another person taking that remark literal or are you just repeating someone else's words? I'd say that if you do take that line literally, then you are a burden to human progress. Obviously, it is merely a way to voice your dislike of something new, based on something older, that you previously loved. So countering that line with "...You had no childhood," Is redundant, a non-argument. That is like taking that other way overused, modern jargon "Took me out of the movie," Literally and then replying with 'But you weren't in the movie.' Which is something that unfunny, SNL reject Nostalgia Critic (whom you are parroting), seems to have forgotten too or perhaps he just thought he was being clever & edgy. Lol.
@ryanmartinez29318 жыл бұрын
Punkster Daddy ok. 1. Learn to spell, it's giving me a headache trying to read... Whatever you just typed. 2. If you're trying to say I'm a burden to the human existence for saying one sentence by replying with a Paragraph long comment which is spaced out for a reason that doesn't exist, getting fired up about nothing, anyone in their right mind would think you are the burden to humanity.
@PunksterOS8 жыл бұрын
Ryan Martinez Ahhh, I see, you have nothing to say, so you attack my spelling and my spacing... Lol... What? So first, you can't tell what I just typed but still managed to respond to it with your ad hominem . I made the big spaces, so I didn't get those usual remarks I see regularly in comment sections such as this, which is 'TL;DR' Or 'Wall of text, makes this unreadable' etc. and seeing as you have no points to make that are your own, I thought you would fit into this category. If spacing out my words gives you a headache, I dread to think what you would be like if I had not put in any gaps. Now as for the spelling... There is nothing wrong with it, unless you believe 'dat bois' is the only way to spell 'that boys,' just to use as a small example. By all means though, just you spell and talk they way you are used to, I mean if it's easier for you. It really isn't that difficult to spell 'Baa.'

Psst. Internet, it's just a movie. Whether it sucks or is amazing, or bombs at the box office or joins the billion dollar movie club, its JUST A MOVIE, you childhoods will NOT be ruined because no matter what happens, the original will still be there, unchanged and you can still watch that to your hearts content. I'm sick of the Ghostbusters hate. It DOESN'T matter. And the original Ghostbusters is one of my all time favourite movies. Love you as always Andre. You ain't a sell-out, you're telling it like it is (in your opinion, which is just as valid as anyone else's).
@SpartacusRyuuou8 жыл бұрын
it more the message, attitudes, and actions that this production took through this whole shitfest. were people upset about the concept of a reboot? sure, most reboots never go over very well. but if that was all it was, then nothing really would have come from it. the studio, and the cast/crew escalated the whole thing. any criticism of what they had seen, no matter how valid, was dismissed and ridiculed. THAT ignited the whole shit storm that covered the internet. and it's simply due to how the production acted throughout this whole mess that i want this movie to tank, HARD.
@happychaosofthenorth8 жыл бұрын
True, while I tried to avoid all the drama surrounding this movie, I admit I did get annoyed when valid complaints were dismissed as "Oh, you're just being sexist" because as a female, my first thought when they first announce an all-female cast was, "pandering". Is it sexist of me? I don't know, but the bit of drama I did see there were indeed some valid...concerns about the movie. I never cared that the original group was all male. Honestly, I have no problem with the genderswap, but in doing so I felt that's all they were going for, especially since it's not a next gen type sequel, and the ghostbusters universe opened the door wide open for that. By making it a genderswapped reboot that according to the trailers at least, seem to be following the original beat by beat, but with women, it felt like it was nothing more than a gimmick. So yeah, I have my complaints, but I'm still going to see it because I love the concept of the ghostbusters and I want to keep an open mind despite my own reservations. Either way, childhood will not be ruined.

You all think this reboot was bad? I'm from 2032, and let me tell you, they rebooted it again in a much worse way. What way, you ask? Here's the title: Humanbusters. Ever since the robots took over, they've been remaking all our movies to give them an anti-humanity vibe (and don't even get me started on what they did to I, Robot). Luckily I managed to make this time machine to revisit the glory days. And to give a warning: You must stop this. Do not allow the robots to win. You have until the year 2024 to make things right, or else we won't be free. Until I use my time machine again and issue another warning farther back, but I'd like to only have to do this the two times, so please help save us.

Whoever thought a reboot was better than a continuation at Sony NEEDS to get fired. The REAL criticism is that it's a fucking reboot when it doesn't have to be.. If you already got the OG cast for cameos, then why wouldn't you just do a sequel/reboot? It's so stupid.. Reboots stunt creativity & originality. It's the same story beats with minor tweaks...

The younger generation might not have seen the original movie, and it might have been years since people saw the original. They probably didn't want to limit their audience to people who remembered the originals.
@AlexLove6318 жыл бұрын
Kentama They're not. The new cast is still the main focus. And you can still call it Ghostbusters. Just a few lines recalling the events of the original and those characters and that's it. There's no excuse. Maybe younger generations didn't see the Rocky movies but still saw Creed Star Wars 7 is with new characters Mad Max is with a new cast but basically the 4th movie Again, no real excuse. Don't call it Ghostbusters 3 and you avoid that problem. Simple
@Kentama8 жыл бұрын
Those movies all came out in the last year. Movies take years to make. When they started making Ghostbusters, they might not have been willing to take the risk because the successful precedence wasn't as much there as it is now.
@AlexLove6318 жыл бұрын
Kentama this movie started filming last June, so it literally took a year. Mad Max was already a hit at that point, Creed was one of the most anticipated films, and no one was bitching about new leads in Star Wars. Plus, Star Trek was an already proven success. Also, everyone knows that people hate reboots. Most of them fail
@Kentama8 жыл бұрын
The project was originally announced in 2014. They started filming in June 2015, but it probably took a long time beforehand to get/greenlight a script, set casting, build the team, etc. Star Trek is just the one film, it's not like there haven't been successful reboots before (Batman comes to mind).

All movies try to grab money, because it's a business and it must turn a profit. But some movies are just money grabs. It's like why "reality" TV is so prevalent though it's not terribly popular or good: It's so cheap to make relative to the gross income that it makes the highest profits. But some people, while still hoping to make a ton of money, insist on doing so by producing something of real quality, something they care about in its own right and can be proud of. That's how we got the original Ghostbusters, that's how we get even today such incredible specimens of near-perfection as Interstellar or The Incredibles or Serenity. People who care about the art first, and the money grab is so they can live comfortably while they keep making great art.

Me and my friend walked out of this movie after an hour. Not because of nostalgia, not because of the women in it (they are really damn talented and I honestly consider myself to be a feminist in some instances), but purely because it is not funny, unwatchable, and did not entertain me at all.

We actually didn't pay for it. I have a membership card for my cinema so I can watch as many films as I want to for £16 a month. How have I contributed to the decline of western civilisation? I was willing on this film from the start, and I wanted it to succeed. It is not my fault it failed. I absolutely love the Ghostbusters franchise, but both myself and my friend were hugely disappointed by the film, so we decided to leave.

Here's an idea: Have a new generation of Ghost busters Some teenages stumble across the Ghost tect in the old fire house building A new Ghost threat makes them realize it's up to them to save the city (It's also two girls and two guys it doesn't have to be all boys or all girls) Better plot, took 5 minutes to come up with

I think my biggest problem was Sony. They've been looking for a franchise like Marvel and are somehow messing it up more than DC. They messed up Spider-man so bad they're sharing it with Marvel now. Any movie they get their hands on will become a cash grab and Sony Ad. They don't think about the consumer, they're thinking about their wallets. And it hurts the movie.

The drama over Ghostbusters would have died as quickly as it started had it been left alone. It wasn't until Sony and the production staff called everyone who had issues with the trailers as sexists, misogynists, and anti-women. The drama got as a bad as it did because Sony would rather insult the fans of the movies then hear what they have to say. Similar to what you're doing. You're completely looking over Sony's overall vitriol against anyone who disliked the trailers, and hating on the people who didn't like the trailers. The rant should have including the absolute horrendous marketing for this movie. You had a valid criticism? You're a sexist. You don't think the trailer is funny? You're a misogynists. You don't like the CG, plot, or characters? You're anti-women. You don't want to watch Ghostbusters? Well you're all 3 and more. From all that, hating the movie was done out of shire principle and spite. If this move fails they will say it's because everyone is sexist.

Not about feminism, huh. Right so a movie that was greenlight by Amy Pascal and directed by Paul Fieg isn't about Feminism. Despite the fact that the Ghostbusters were switched from being a diverse cast of men and women, into an all woman team and it has been marketed that way. I mean it's not like any criticism towards this movie has been accused of being covert sexism by the director or cast members. Oh, and can you name a male character in this movie who's defining character trait isn't one of the following? 1. Being an Asshole 2. Being an Idiot 3. Being Evil I won't call you a shill, because you're not, and it's not a crime to like terrible movies- I like RIPD afterall. But it is undoubtedly targeted towards tumblr and facebook feminists, and uses the Ghostbusters name and sparkly things(new proton weapons, and action) to entertain others.

I keep seeing critics say the hate is overdone because the film isn't actually that bad, that it's just a mediocre cash-in film with lots of product placement not a straight-up terrible movie... am I the only one thinking that's worse? Exactly right! 30 years later the original team can't be found and the tech is gone. Feig gets to empower his new ladies by letting them develop new tech on their own and bam! Both sides win. The ladies do some Ghostbusting and the original guys realize what's happening and make cameos officially passing the torch to the new ladies. I bet this movie would have had a whole lot less hate if they just kept it in the same universe.
@SuperCosmicMutantSquid8 жыл бұрын
Feig said himself that he didn't want to do a continuation because he wanted to make something on his own. Ivan (the guy who worked with Ramis on the originals) was the one who wanted to do a passing of the torch movie a la Extreme but this was something that both Amy and Feig did not want and could not do with Ivan still in charge in some way, hence Amy pushing him out to put Feig in charge. I can only guess Feig didn't want to do a continuation is because he would still have to apply rules that Ivan and Harold made with the original which meant he would have to stick to their brand of comedy as well which would have clashed with this own. This is basically the major reason why a lot of people were meh with the film from the start and that was Paul and Amy taking such leaps and bounds in order to get THEIR way but as we have seen, their way was MEH and sort of deflates both their egos. In a way, I am glad this happened because it MIGHT open up a lot of eyes to what happens when you treat one of the original writers like shit in order to get the credit for yourself. Feig and Amy could have made a GREAT reboot had they done it in a way that honored the original series much like how TMNT 2010 pays MASSIVE homage to nearly EVERY turtles related thing EVER but instead they took it and said 'This is ours. We know better than everyone and you're wrong'
@Chozodianemissary8 жыл бұрын
I'm guessing you've watched the Midnight's Edge videos. Awesome videos! Yeah, Feig didn't want to be tied down to preexisting lore but more importantly he wanted to let the ladies develop this tech on their own instead of being handed the tech by the original guys. Either way, Feig is responsible for pushing this film into a reboot and that's why I always said he was the wrong guy for the job.
@damionmurray82448 жыл бұрын
Plot-wise I wanted them to go much further than either a reboot or a passing of the torch type flick. They should have used the originals as a jumping off point and pack some world-building in there. In 30 years, the world could have changed where there are multiple ghost-busting chapter houses all across the globe. This movie could have been about the founding of a new chapter house of all-female ghost-busters. In 30 years ghost-busting may have become standardized but these ladies come along and start pushing the envelope. This would have been the perfect platform as we could have had cameos from all the other ghost buster incarnations (movies and animated shows). Plus, it would have been a great vehicle for a civil-war type cross-over event where multiple chapter houses could team up to take on some big bad in possible sequels. Instead we got an average but lackluster film...such a wasted opportunity...smh.
@Chozodianemissary8 жыл бұрын
Right?! But, Feig wanted to empower his ladies by having them create the equipment from scratch and he didn't want to be tied down by the existing lore... He is the sole reason for this reboot and it bit him in the butt. I would have loved to see these ladies put together their own chapter in Chicago or something, maybe they weren't approved for whatever reason so they went and designed their own equipment and started up a Ghostbusting business anyway. So many avenues he could have taken but nope... reboot. It made it easier on him and now we have an easy mediocre movie...
@SuperCosmicMutantSquid8 жыл бұрын
Chozodianemissary See, that doesn't make sense. He still could have done a continuation and had his 'gurls' make their own tech. Just because it's a continuation doesn't mean they automatically have to be saddled with the same old equipment. Ghostbusters Exterme proved that. The only thing that the reboot proved is that Paul can't handle licenses properties on his own as writer and director. He may have been credited in the Peanuts movie but I give more credits to the other writers as well as POSSIBLY looming fear that had he fucked that property up he would have NEVER been given the chance to do anything else. (Seriously, Peanuts and Charles Schultz are an institution and he would have been burned at the stake should THAT movie bombed) Paul is now coming off as someone who doesn't want to share or do things unless he is given all the final say and go. If he had been OKAY with working on Ghostbusters, he would have told Amy that he would not have minded working with Ivan but given all the might both did in order to push Ivan out of the way, we see SHARING was something he didn't want to do.

CGI was very B-rated and the villain was not at all pleasing, they relied too much on the girl-power gimmick and it did not carry the movie at all. Not to mention that the first joke of this movie was wildly inappropriate as it related to queefs. Bad...bad...bad!

Most of the time, people go see these kinds of movies because the originals were around the time they grew up with and it brings a lot of memories of nostalgia to them. It's the same with music, it just brings happy memories of your childhood, and it instantly turns into a long time favorite classic to them even when they become adults. So, when you hear people say "Destroying my childhood" it just means, it ruins the good memories they had when they first saw it.. Hope that helps.
@LunaticReason8 жыл бұрын
It's an exaggeration because you can't literally do that but what they really mean is that they feel that something that they cherished from their childhood is being dishonored/desecrated so it very well feels like it's being destroyed.

Cap285 Yeah, I wrote a comment a while back about what they should have done, it involved the original remaining 3 Ghostbusters gearing up for one final fight at the end, then after the badguy is defeated a cgi Egon shows up smiling at his friends before then disappearing. That sounds pretty corny, and kinda like something that already happened in Supernatural that one time, but still I think that's the kind of thing we should have got instead of this reboot which pretends it's an original film while also going for nostalgia, which is confusing.

Honestly, it's not so much Melissa McCarthy wearing a Ghostbusters jumpsuit that seemed to tick off a lot of people, it was Paul Fieg and Sony's complete overreaction to the negative response to the extremely bad trailer they released that left a lot of people pissed. On a side note: it looks like Ghostbusters had a really, really terrible advertising campaign, which is likely going to screw it over in the long-run. When GB loses to 'Secret Life of Pets' for the top spot on its opening weekend (when Pets is on week 2), and it'll have to compete against Star Trek Beyond and Ice Age: Collision Course this weekend... yeah, it'll be interesting to see if this actually ever gets a sequel like Sony claims it will. The battle of the sexes thing brought out the worst in a lot of people on the Internet but at root the sourness starts at the point at which Paul Feig and Amy Pascal decided that they wanted to reboot instead of setting it in the same world as the original because having the women invent the technology for themselves instead of inheriting it would be more of a feminist message. So when they are selling it so hard as nostalgia for the original, right down to featuring cameos by the original cast members, they're literally saying "we know what you want but it's more important to us to ram our political message up your ass"
@Dargonhuman6 жыл бұрын
The Sony email leaks pretty much confirmed that the only reason the movie was made was to make fans of the original angry and push a feminist agenda. They were never interested in making a good movie, they were interested in trolling people and were at the forefront of instigating most of the controversy by openly attacking the fanbase.

Nice review, Andre. I am attached to the original, but the trailers didn't pull me in. When I found out about the cameos, I was also turned off because of the fact that it wasn't taking place in the same universe as the original. I really was hoping for a pass the torch type set up. I'm not sure when it comes out here in Japan, but my roommate is planning on seeing it in theaters. My other roommate and I will probably wait until it's on DVD or something to see it.

+Andre "Black Nerd" I only read about it on a board I'm on. That person felt that their cameos felt very forced. I still wish they would've just continued the story, had everyone reprise their roles and maybe set it up like Extreme Ghostbusters. Ghost activity being stagnant and all that. I just feel that would've drawn me in more, personally, as that's what I was originally expecting when they finally greenlit this film, and I'm sure Rick Moranis would've considered doing a cameo too, if it had been something like that.

Right with you on everything, Andre. The biggest problem was rebooting it. They really could have said "Ghostbusters actually happened 32 years ago." Then the cameos could have really really meant something. Still, it was okay. The girls were all likable. The tone was right on at times. It got a little too explain-y with the constant introduction of new gadgets. The villain wasn't that great (but hemsworth was.) Kind of fun to have Ghostbusters back, but there's room for improvement. Childhood still intact!

I don't understand the whole "This movie makes it okay for girls to want to be Ghostbusters" meme this movie spawned. There is nothing that precludes a girl from being a Ghostbuster (aside from the fact that it's fiction and no one can be). If anyone's daughter thought that she couldn't be a Ghostbuster, just because she is a girl, there is something seriously wrong with the way she is being raised.

Besides, as Andre pointed out, the women in this movie aren't even the first female Ghostbusters. Janine was one on multiple occasions in the Real Ghostbusters cartoon, and there was a character named Kylie who was a regular member of the team on Extreme Ghostbusters. Both were very likable and competent characters. Honestly, knowing that, I'm a little stunned that Andre is still going with the narrative that "Women shouldn't be Ghostbusters!" was the reason people objected to this film.
@trishahernz78098 жыл бұрын
Same reason why people celebrate Deadpool's R rated film, ignoring the fact Wesley Snipes already did that with Blade. Anyways, this movie is for the mainstream audience. Introducing women of different sizes as protagonists aimed for female kids. That's a good thing.

Actually, I would like to hear thoughts on The Secret Life Of Pets. I myself really liked it. I thought it was fast paced, funny, cartoony, had charming characters and still managed to be entertaing despite the fact that it is similar to Toy Story 1 and 2 and the plot has been seen before. The comedy and the fun characters really is the film's strong point and holds it up.

Jayy T Yes, it does have similarities to Toy Story 1 and 2 and the plot is nothing we haven't seen in other movies, but that doesn't mean it's not still a good and very entertaining film. What it lacks in originality when it comes to plot it pretty much makes up for it with it's hilarious comedy (both verbal and physical) and it's entertaining characters. Heck, after seeing the movie I had such a fun time with the characters and the comedy that the similarities to Toy Story were an afterthought really. The movie is the perfect example of taking something we have seen before and still making it entertaining and fun.

You're right, Black Nerd - this movie is SUPPOSED to be about franchise and merchandise. However, the people making the movie CHOSE to make it about feminism because they couldn't believe that their shitty trailer was actually shitty. Also, your ending is very apt - "if you think this is going to mess up your childhood, don't go see it." However, that's EXACTLY what AVGN said - he enjoyed the original, and thought this would ruin it. THAT WAS ALL IT TOOK FOR HIM TO BE BRANDED AS SEXIST BY THE PEOPLE WHO MADE THIS MOVIE.
@AjiLaStrange8 жыл бұрын
This whole Ghostbusters/Feminism thing as been blown way out of proportion. From the trailers, I thought the movie was okay. Maybe something I'd watch when it came out on DVD. But then Sony had to fuck things up by advertising this damn film as a form female empowerment, and troll the fanbase. So, no thank you to the new Ghostbusters.
@TheFlamemaster98 жыл бұрын
That about sums up how I feel about all of this. I had no real big attachment to the old movies it was just something I watched with my dad growing up every now and then. So when the all female reboot was announced I was pretty neutral the trailer itself made me want to wait for it to come out on dvd because I have a movie budget for each month and the trailer did nothing to wow me but I still planned to watch it. Then the director and cast decided to stop treating it like a ghostbusters reboot that just happened to star women into a FEMALE ghostbusters movie. Going as far to use shaming/bullying tactics like calling all nerds assholes, deleting constructive criticism on the trailer leaving the sexist ones alone, and calling the people who dare criticize their trailers sexist misogynistic bigots who just hate women. You want an example just go look at the shit James Rolfe got from regular people and celebrities all for saying he wasn't going to review what is just another cash grab reboot/remake. I never wish for a movie to crash and burn at the box office no matter how much I dislike it but if it teaches Sony and those involved with this movie that the pathetic and cowardly tactics that they used will not be accepted I hope this thing bombs hard.

Pretty much the same here. Sony were the ones who started the shit by acting like brats themselves after calling fans brats so they didn't help themselves in the long run of things and seeing that the movie is AVERAGE it sort of makes things really clear that they may have had such little confidence in themselves they NEEDED some other way to get attention. It's just sad they had to chose this route which has basically pushed away a LOT of potential ticket buyers rather than just doing something fun.
@SuperCosmicMutantSquid8 жыл бұрын
***** It just shows how way out of touch Amy and Paul were with this movie. Yeah, I LOVE the idea of more female-centric super hero flicks and shit but reading their ideas I realized they both ain't got a lick of fucking talent between them and they probably knew that. What they did have was POWER as shown with Amy when she shoved Ivan out to put Paul in charge. And then when things caught wind of how things were going they once again covered their asses by blaming everyone for not wanting to see this hot mess of a film. Think about it like this.....DISNEY didn't pull this shit with the new Star Wars film and there were plenty of racist and sexist assholes who complained about Rey and Finn. Disney let the assholes have their day and broke fucking BANK when the movie came out so what did that show? It shows that it doesn't matter. The racist can say whatever the fuck they want but they aren't going to stop people from seeing a good movie. Sony did like....the complete OPPOSITE of this. They basically felt that by attacking everyone they could get more people to see the film but no. NO, they did not. Even Michael Bay knows his movies are predictable but even he doesn't throw fits when people point out how shit some of his things are. He lets it roll of his back and he keeps making movies. Amy and Paul have more or less DESTROYED any trust from the public after this. I was indifferent about Feig for the longest time because I don't find him impressive but after seeing his behavior he can have a big FUCK YOU from me because the man is a god damm jerk. And Amy is a sleaze for what she did to push Ivan out and the result was a mediocre film.
@SuperCosmicMutantSquid8 жыл бұрын
***** I feel like he's a creeper towards women in general, like the dude who's always White Knighting women about OTHER men when they're the ones you should watch out for. And hey, Amy WANTED to make a female driven super hero movie but given that was driven by politics (it was called GLASS CEILING for crying out loud) and was going to be forced into the Spider-verse when they still had the rights to the series, the problem is Sony doesn't have faith in WOMEN. They don't have faith in women unless they are being used in a specific manner. If Sony had FAITH in this female lead GB reboot, they wouldn't have gone through such lengths to tell male fans that this movie isn't for them, that this a ground breaking movie for women and so on. They grabbed at every chance for controversy in order to stay in the headlines rather than standing on the talent of the stars they chose to lead the film. Like I said, Disney didn't use Finn and Rey as a soapbox. Yes, the ultra politcal outlets did but DISNEY DID NOT because as a company they know better not to alienate and creep off potential fans and MONEY. Sony on the other hand did just this by shitting on anyone who didn't give them glowing praise all around which is all the more funnier considering how lackluster the film has turned out to be. Had Sony just kept mature about things and the movie was still bleh, no one would have been up in arms and no one would have been mad. Disappointed perhaps, but they still would have gone and seen it and perhaps given it enough money in order to get another movie that could be used to improve on the mistakes of the first. But Sony screwed themselves over by treating ticker buyers like shit and Feig did so even more by creeping off so many people. I mean, I was going to give him credit for Peanuts but after this shit I give the animators and the other writers their due because as shown here, he can't do shit with a property unless he can start it HIS way and even then he still fucked it up and tried to pin it on disinterested movie goers. I just don't get where Feig feels he's the spokeman for female actors, especially those who work in comedy. There have been countless talented comdieans for DECADES and they didn't need Paul to step in and speak for them. Lucile Ball could whoop this dude's ass.

I saw Ghostbusters a few hours ago. It was surprisingly good! I didn't watch the OG Ghostbusters movies before going into this one because I knew that they would definitely make me biased. I thought this movie was good. The majority of the jokes landed, the characters were great (Patty being my favorite), the action scenes were very well put together, but the music selection was godawful. The "Walk the Moon" cover of the Ghostbusters theme was GREAT, but pretty much everything else was just terrible. I did feel like the plot/movie altogether fell apart near the end with Kristin Wiig's character not really acting like she did for the rest of the movie and the cheesiness of the last major scene in the movie. The cameos were fine. I enjoyed the last one with Patty's uncle (can't think of the actor's name) the most. Overall I thought it was a good movie and people should give it a chance.

I agree it's about cashing in on the franchise. But, I disagree that that there wasn't feministic PC overtones. There were and it was done to sell merch. The film was rife with feministic overtones painting men as ironic and misogynistic. The attempted humor was infantile and flat. The special effects looked lazy and cheap. This movie was made for an international audience and paid no respect to the original franchise.
