im on my 2nd one of these, first one lasted 10 years and I literally took it with me the world over, it was my EDC, camping and work bag. Only thing that broke was a front zipper which happened on an international flight from most likely baggage handlers and the shoulder strap wore out and became soft and loose just from so much use. Great pack. It weighs 2.4kg empty and has about a 55L total capacity. The side pockets will fit a 2L klean canteen in it with a 300mL cup on top. best pack, highly recommend it.

Nice video. To solve te problem on the shoulder discomfort the weight of the pack should rest on the hips, NOT the shoulders . To do that sit with the pack on and cinch the waist strap FIRST. The use the shoulder straps to pull the pack towards the body. That way the weigh of the pack rests on the hips, not the shoulders. Boy Scout 101

I'm a mortarman in the army and I had just purchased a rush72 before I went to the field. I carried a wet weather top, poncho, ASIP radio + batteries a bottom and top ocp, t shirt,socks, weapons cleaning kit, 2 mags, and some pogi bait. To top it off I was still able to fit 6x 60mm rounds on the pocket flap (idk what you call the folding pouch above the main utility pouch). I'm pretty sure my pack weighed atleast 60 to 70 pounds by then and I'm not even including the poles and what not, but overall I love this bag, it's design was perfect for my back despite the weight and the rugged construction made it withstand pta in the big island of Hawaii. The terrain there is just brutal with sharp lava rock that would rip your uniform off! It impressed me so much that I bought the rush24 pack! Anyway of u get this pack you definitely getting your money's worth SGT B.....

I'll give you a little tip on lessening the stress on you're shoulders, don't tighten the shoulder straps like Magilla The Gorilla, I had the same problem but soon realized that if I loosened them about 1" or 2 , the tension pretty much was gone, and had better mobility with my arms. when you do this you will feel the weight shift from you're shoulders to you're waist strap, and its much more comfortable. Thats one mistake I see with these video's, people think that the straps have to be as tight as possible, only the waist strap needs to be tight so this trick works.Then when you need them to be tightened for different terrain you can tighten them back, and when you get back to easy flat terrain you loosen them again. Try it and see how it works for you

I have had this pack for about two years and can say I love it. I am a large person (2xl to 3xl) size and needed something for overnight trips, this pack did the trick. The only down size to me was that the bigger the bag the more you tend to stuff in it.

1) I like that you have a camera person 2) you film outdoors 3) you are quick to explain and don't drone on and on. 4) I would like to have seen it fully packed as you would pack it. (or was it?) Not an oversized bag, but looks to really hold quite a bit! Would be nice for hip strap to velcro back as to not flop around. What are the $600 packs you mentioned? I've had this bag for over a year and use it every day... and i absolutely love it. Some say it is a little big but it fits everything from my 2 laptops and all my books plus a lunch and whatever else i might need for the day. I definately recommend this bag to anyone!!!

I needed a breakdown of the backpack since I took the rod out and needed to check how its placed. But anyone wondering, this is a very very good backpack, I run to my gym every day for about 3 km daily not very far, but I do carry some stuff, I've went through so many backpacks.. this makes the load conform to your body and the belt and straps make it stable enough to run with weight safely. It's made to last in rough conditions and carry allot of weight I take this everywhere it's one of my best purchases I have mine for about 4 years and going strong. It's very spacious and durable. Lots lots of pockets.

Reason for the thinner waist straps, is if you're carrying a side arm , concealed or open carry , it's for quick release so it wont get caught on the bulkier padding

I own this pack and I have to say that the layout is really well thought out. It's a Tardis that you can just keep filling made from excellent materials, manufactured to a very high standard. However, at 5.8" and a medium build like yourself it is almost totally unusable for myself for more than about a mile even if lightly loaded due to the design of the shoulder straps (I have the newer model with thicker padding) and it just cuts and burns the top of my shoulders terribly. In my opinion 5.11 almost made one of the best packs ever and ended up making a storage box for my excess kit. Atb.

You're right, the larger the bag is, the more you feel inclined to put more things in it. Which isn't always a bad thing. Carrying extra gear can mean a more comfortable and extended outing. Just comes down to preference. Thanks for watching. -Krik

Pretty soon it's bigger and hold heavier than you can comfortably carry. Unless you're a Special Forces trooper used to carrying 65 pounds and then ruck march 20 miles, don't over load yourself then find out the hard way how much it hurts 5 miles down the road.

Great review, I have the bag myself (am in the military) but rarely use it. I am more of a simplistic kind of "bag man" lol and would constantly lose gear in the massive amounts of compartments! It is a good deployment bag or any long trip bag. It's built like a tank and weighs about the same to. I might pull it back out and give it a spin for a few weeks to re-evaluate it as my "POU" (or philosophy of use) as nut'nfancy would call it has and is ever evolving. I also have the Moab and the other larger sling bags by 5.11 and find them more user friendly as a daily driver. Only problem with them is the army does not allow you to cross sling a bag, either one strap on one side or two on either shoulder.

Great videos on backpacks. My only advice would be to put your height in the description of these vids. I'm 6'3 and have no idea how to determine whether the waist belt will work for me based on your size in the vids. Everything else is 100%

Great Video! I just ordered this bag today from 5.11 and super excited to receive it! I think the only thing i would have liked to see in this video that i saw in other videos (which is why i know about it), is those straps surrounding the front and side allow you to add smaller bags such as med kits, walkie talkie's, ect. I don't remember hearing you touching on the capability of being able to add more gear to this bag via attachments. Other then that, truly awesome video man, thanks!!

I have this bag and it makes for a great 72 hour bug out bag/get home bag. It comfortably holds 25-30lbs of gear, any more weight and it becomes very uncomfortable. I had used it to build an INCH bag when i first got into survival/bushcraft. First weekend out training with it i realized pretty quickly that it was too uncomfortable with 50lbs of gear in it. I quickly upgraded to the USMC ILBE main rucksack and never looked back. My Rush 72 is now a dedicated food bag, my wife's is now a dedicated medical bag. Anyone looking at this bag for a bug out bag, as long as you don't put too much weight in it, it's a great bag. If your loadout is over 25lbs, I'd suggest going with an actual framed backpack with load lifters, and really thick waist belt and shoulder straps. If you want the tactical look with MOLLE webbing and such, go with the USMC ILBE main rucksack or the FILBE main rucksack. You'll save yourself alot of time, money, and discomfort.

No, it doesn't come with a bladder. Few manufacturers actually include reservoirs with some of their packs (Osprey and Camelbak do). Let me know what you think about the pack. -Krik

I bought this pack for roughly $250. Retail it was over $300 for the camp.(which is what I have) the store manager felt bad because they didn't have any black ones which is $250 so he gave me the camo for the same price. I bought the bag mostly for everyday use. I work in demolition/construction. This bag gets the job done. The bag I used before this was a tiny little thing that I had since elementary school so it was money worth spent. I did buy it also for hiking/camping. Been using this bag for roughly a month now and I have no complaints. The only complaint I have it that it isn't large enough to take a few days camping. Unless I pack to much stuff.... Its only 40L so yea..... I was expecting 60l all is good though.

Great honest review. I'm liking mine. Pretty much everything you spoke of applies. I've only used as edc @ work and op shop (thrift shop) runs but so far very comfortable. Will have to go hiking soon to test properly. All my mates have smaller edc bags but I like bigger and don't mind the weight (man up ultralighters). Good to have options for extra carry & that middle open 'dump' pocket has actually proven a handy time saver. I hope the attachments are solid as admin pouch is dependant on 'em.

Highly recommend anyone who owns a 5.11 rush pack, no matter what the size, to watch this video. My guess is that the reason they used a thinner hip belt was to make it easier to tuck it into the slots behind the back panel. I am a backpacker and live out of my truck for 3 months out of the year. I use the rush 24 for tools and I am looking at picking up a second larger rush pack to carry more tools.

Jeez….been fixated on all hazards prime due to the “stuff sack” setup where the admin pouch pulls away from main body for helmet/wet clothing…never realized this bag has been around for over 10yrs now. 5.11 is selling the rush 2.0 series now and on the 12,24,&72 2.0 rush series….they’ve added a “secret” Velcro closure ccw space full of “loop” material to attach a holster. And a padded laptop pocket. I love these bags mainly due to the materials.

I prefer my maxpedition Falcon II A couple of things I didn't like on that pack was the clip on for the chest it looks like it will snap off in a couple of months of hard use. and the waist belt is very thin. It looks like they skimped on the material for the waist belt. Great organization on that pack though A LOT of pockets and mesh zipped pockets that is a + for that pack. I loved the main compartment dam thing is GIGANTIC almost too big. Great video

Krik,Good video, I own one and you showed a couple of things I didn`t notice. One being the hydration tube provisions, I totally missed that. I`d have liked to have seen you actually hook up a bladder/bag internally and get your thoughts on that, I`ve got a hydro-pack I use when cycling and would like to see how that would work. Using the molle and a some webbing and a ladder loc buckle. you can rig up something. I own the Rush 24 and thats what I did. Total cost maybe 3 dollars. Thats why I like the molle. Not for huge pouches, but for stuff like that. Even a carabiner that is big enough to go around your axe handle. Hope this helps.

I didn't realize that question was invasive. I was simply asking. I worked for the Forest Service and knew a bunch of fellows on shot crews. I even had my red card, but my boss wouldn't let me leave to work on the line. I was an archaeology crew leader, so I had my own pressing matters. I agree with your assessment. It's a good pack but there are many things that can be improved in the shoulder and hip belt straps, I agree! And they should use 500 D cordura for the outside pockets to reduce weight but keep the rest the same. And not use that cheap shiny nylon on the interior. The shoulder strap should be beefed up and removable and have the cinch system you describe.

I wish those 2 admin pockets on the 24 were just one large pocket like the 72 admin pocket is on top. That's my only complaint for the 24. Now I might need this bag.

as krik and i aren't military or LE, we usually look for gear with crossover capability to hikers, camper's, bushcrafters etc. so we have yet to really delve down the more specific brands you've mentioned. maybe once the channel starts to generate some more money we'll be able to afford to buy more expensive packs more often. thanks for the new avenues to explore. do you have any experience with condor? - stony

i have the rush 72 and its' a pretty good pack. its' HUGE! sometimes i wonder if i should've gone with 24. my only complaint with it is that i chose multicam. i think i should've gone with tan or black. wish manufacturers made a carhartt brown version. the large side pockets are great! on one side i have the COMPLETE BCB Crusader cup and bottle set. it is a fine pack.

I like the 72 a lot. I thought it was 55 liter and not 47 litter. It's big enough to eat the Maxpedition Vulture II in the main compartment. Rush also has the Teir System to attach another smaller pack to it. like the MOAB 6&10. I really did not notice the neck strap prob you said, nor the hip belt. I love the RUSH family,so, I am basis towards it. I have the RUSH 12,24,72 & MOAB 10.

I put a Dell 17R laptop in the back of mine AFTER taking out the frame and the bar. Fits perfect so a 15X10 would slip in there no problem at all.

Can you use the small pack inside the side pocket as a water bottle holder? So you don't have to open and close the zipper each time you wanna have a drink of water?

You should keep your cutting tools(pocket knife or whatever the case may be) and ferro rod in your pocket maybe a small first aid kit, shit can happen and you can lose your bag and be crap outta luck.
