It all goes to this... They don't make em like they used to. Thinner alloys and same price line using less materials. The quick heat and lighter weight might come through for most. Thanks for your testing and sharing.

It was interesting. The weight difference between the two was the most surprising to me. I think the quality has slipped a bit on the newer one but it still gets the job done for me. I use it for camping and tailgating. I like that it is easy to fold up and transport for a 36" griddle.

Absolutely agree Doug! I have an old school Blackstone and definitely would look for a 60 if I replace. But been thinking about a Halo also lol. Good review! Cheers brother 🍻

Halo is the way to go. Pricy but worth it. I really think Blackstones quality has gone down at least in my experience. I'm like in the beginning of the video saying the Omnivore top may be more likely to warp due to being lighter and then it warped Lol. As always thank you for the support.

very interesting comparison.... thanks for the comparison. the omnivore is supposed to use less propane due to the lower BTU output. it's currently 397 at Walmart.

I believe it does use less propane. Being that the Omnivore is a lighter top it heats up faster but it lacks the heat retention of a heavier top that can make a difference if you are loading it up cooking for a bunch of people. The Omnivore I have is $297.00 with the hard cover at Walmart.

Not rebar, it’s angle iron. Anyway, i bought mine when it first came out and it’s 1/4 thick and does not have a cut out for drain/cleaning.

I don't mind the lower btu but the thinner griddle and quality on them has me slightly concerned. Walmart has these for 297 right now with the metal cover and the hood lid version for 397. Blows my mind they want 100 more for a flimsy hood even though it would be nice in my opinion.

I went with the hard cover because I mainly use mine for camping and tailgating. You can still find 60k units out there for now but I think eventually they will all be the Omnivore version.

First of all, nice shirt and nice truck, I have the same ones. We seem to be aligned in preferences lol. So, this might be a hot take but here it goes. New griddle is about 12% cooler max temp, but, almost 40% less BTU's. I for one hate going through propane, and I feel like I'm swapping those tanks out all the time (I have 4 at the house!). Plus with the quicker heat-up, one could argue that's going to save you propane too. So, while I fully agree that higher max temp is preferred, feels like only a 12% drop in max temp for a whopping 40% savings in BTU's + faster heat up (and thus reduced propane usage), seems like it might be an advantageous trade-off to me! But now the real question... can we upgrade it to 60k? What's the limiting factor - the flame rails? The knobs? That might be a fun thing to look into/experiment with.

I should throw the top on my old Blackstone and see what happens with the temps. I had to go back and see what shirt I was wearing LOL. I guess you also have a Super Duty. Thanks for watching. Keep tuned for the griddle swap 👍👍👍

I just got off the phone with Blackstone...their tech told me the Omnivore top with the 60K output was too hot...that's why that downed the output.... wonder why they didn't make it 40 or 45K though so that they would get equal high temp..

@@privateuploads-geo2625 60k would warp the crap out of the Omnivore top being roughly 15 pounds lighter than the old top. My new Omnivore warps a little bit whenever I cook on high with multiple burners. If you want a hot griddle that will not warp check out the Halo griddles. I have a bunch of videos using the Halo.

I have the new 36 with the cover attached. I couldn't even season it because the regulator was bad . I went back to Walmart and bought the fancy regular. Now I have a jet engine. I'm on my third regulator. I just put on a fresh tank, another jet engine. It's also rusting around the top of the frame. Over priced junk!

Good to hear. I’m sticking with mine as long as I can. The new ones are pretty for sure. I don’t need pretty though. I could see the hair on your chinny chin chin! 😂. Awesome job Doug!

It was a pretty interesting difference between the two. I think Blackstones quality is suffering. I think I prefer the older design. They just need to add wind protection to it.

Lighter because it probably has less steel and more aluminum in it.

I thought that was interesting how much lighter it was. I don't mind that because that griddle is used when traveling so making it easier to load is a good thing. It was pretty funny when I said "Is it more likely to warp because it's lighter" then it warps when I'm testing the high end heat. I cooked on it a bunch on a big camping trip and it worked great.
