The art of effective arguing is not to get upset. Because depending on the he point of contention the only way to keep the interaction moving to an understanding you have to remember its not about being right it's about being capable of communicating a position that doesn't invalidate the other side but bring an agreement to the acknowledgement that there are valid reasons for the conflict and still allow the defusing of allowing it to escalate beyond the willingness to understand what the true source of the conflict. People dance around the problem and most conflicts are directed to a different direction because it's a place p

No BS. I am a veteran who had a mental health crisis last week Thursday. The VA prevention hotline man failed me. As a result I ended up 3 blocks away at my local FD, with the terrible prevention rep still on the phone, seeking help from my community's finest. They turned their back on me. I went to the curb outside the firehouse, sat down and cried. I was now totally lost. Then the police response... All I can say if it was not for the training I had previously thru my employer in Chris Voss negotiation and de-escalation...I might not be here right now. The VA is now taking proper care of me. I was saved by my Lord in Heaven, however Mr. Voss was right there with me as well. Thank you. Christopher

God bless you. I keep trying to learn better communication bc our world feels so out of control and people need even more help than ever when we hadn’t even taken care of our seniors or vets well enough yet.

Life lesson @ 6:25 "It's often not about what you say, it's how you say it." You gotta learn how to read/know your audience. Reception is crucial when information is being exchanged. Teachers have it rough tbh.

Why does this conversation make me uncomfortable? I know it’s an interview and the interviewer needs to ask questions. The interviewed seemed to be trying to control the narrative rather than accepting it

He is an expert negotiator. It’s okay to relax. We just aren’t used to this level of expertise or dominance but it’s not in a bad way. It’s super helpful. We just aren’t used to authority on this level. Such a good person to learn from. All on the same team at various levels.
