0:00 💡 A "take it or leave it" offer shows the other side's insecurity and provides leverage for negotiation. 1:28 ❓ Use "no-oriented" questions to make the other side feel safe and protected, as saying "no" is a defensive response. 2:48 🪞 Apply the "Mirror" technique by repeating key words from the other side to test for flexibility and encourage them to expand. 3:41 🎯 Use the "Gentle Differential Label" by asking non-confrontational questions to gauge their stance and encourage further dialogue. 5:17 🎁 If negotiations stall, use "Generosity" as a label to highlight your flexibility and encourage the other side to find more to offer. 6:00 🤝 Ensure a respectful and pleasant demeanor throughout negotiations to foster cooperation and positive outcomes.

One of your best videos. So much pertinent information delivered concisely. Your voice is great, it’s like George Carlin and Al Pacino had a baby…

Man, what fitting timing! And boy, that comment about how telling it is if someone _does_ take offense and deem things as "disrespectful" when that's not even reasonable…yup, that definitely sounds like folks I've dealt with. 😅 Family, to be exact.

@appleb305 the goal is for the entire world to know these skills really.. to utilize them for influence, not manipulation (if used for manipulation, it wont get you very far.. the goal is long term relationships) that way we can all communicate more harmoniously, therefore creating a better reality!! A healthier society

Maybe the insecurity mostly true for business context, but when it comes to selling private things I would do "take it or leave it" mostly for things I am not ready to waste time on. People will literally haggle for .20 cents off on a pencil in FB marketplace...

How do you deal with a confrontational person who is raising their voice and telling you what to do in a very hostile way in your first interaction? I tried to be calm and I said, it sounds like I did something wrong and then she proceeded to yip yap at me, my adrenaline was surging and I was very triggered but I did not want to match her level of aggression. How do you defend yourself and stand up to them and let them know that you’re not going to tolerate the way they’re talking to you, without meeting their level of hostility?

Not enough info here: What's the nature of the relationship? Teacher-trainee? Boss-employee? Coworkers? What's the background? Is she aware of your track record? Is it negative? Are you suppose to have the qualifications for this job, having asserted them previously? On the other hand, does she have a bad track record as a toxic person? Do people call her toxic or a sneak? With this little info, it's pruden of you not to escalate and match her aggression. That's smart. Dark personalities perceive that as a challenge (e.g. toxic personalities, narcissists, etc), so things tend to get ugly when you match toxic parity. If you can't remove yourself from the situation (or have her removed), then the most effective way is to keep track of her logical fallacies to ensure she stays on point, not deflecting from the core issue (e.g. if she resorts to Ad Hominems, ignore them and refocus on the issue at hand, especially if there's an audience!). Bonus points: if she IS a dark personality, you must communicate what's happening to all tangent parties, because narcissists almost always employ smear campaigns when they realize they can't control you, so make sure your reputation isn't ruined behind your back.

Sorry Chris, I think TIOLI signals the other side doesn't care about getting a deal with you. This means our side is at a disadvantage especially if we want a deal with the other side

Jim Cam (author of Start With No) advises to do your best to always be able to walk out of a deal. If not, the other side has power over you simply by doing nothing.

OK >>>>> While I love your business advice and negation style/tactics >>> THE claim or advice that a take it or leave it offer shows weakness or fear or pressure to NOT negotiate (where as they otherwise might or would) IS TOTAL NONSENSE. It is a psychological tool used to turn the table on a party that thinks they have leverage or the upper hand. By showing the other party you actually do not need them and could care less about their offer, the result shows many things, whether the side that thinks they have leverage actually does have it or not, who wants and needs the deal more, and who is actually going to make a good deal on good terms. Really it'll often also show a person's bottom line >> since perhaps you want too much, and think you are entitled to more in a deal than you actually are (and they know that). So you are hit with, well, dont like it, take it or leave it. Its not fear; it could easily be you being frankly unreasonable, so why should they budge? IF you can't walk away from a negotiation OR make an offer to someone where they either take it or leave it, you are just a beggar begging and thats not a negotiation.
