Blacktail epoxy table workshop: www.blacktailstudio.com/the-e...
This extending dining table was one of the toughest woodworking projects I've ever taken on. I partnered with Nikon to make this video on the Nikon Z 6II which, as you can see, seriously upped my video quality. In the end, I made an extendable walnut dining table that goes from 108" (275cm) to 140" (355cm) with two continuous grain (mostly) leaf extensions to make it a totally functional expanding table. When not in use there is no visible hardware, screws, or brackets that get in the way of daily use. The wood I used is locally salvaged black walnut. I used two sequential slabs, also referred to as a bookmatch. Bookmatched tables form a symmetrical, mirror image of each other and are my favorite style of table. You could take everything applied to this table and use it with your own DIY live edge table project. Whether it was a bookmatched live edge table or a single slab natural edge table, this continuous grain leaf extension would work. #Sponsored

Cam, 30 mins was fine for me. I'm just an old woman who enjoys refinishing my furniture. No link to what you do. But I love beautiful wood, and I enjoy your projects so much. Your voice is so relaxing, your work so precise, focused, fascinating, the finished object so breathtakingly stunning, I could probably watch an hour. Jordan Bock I totally agree. Great projects and loving the table Cam. Will you make chairs or benches to go with ? I am appalled by the price of raw wood. I am a fan of oddly shaped off cuts which can include the bark like used to be found in old type woodyards which always had a huge heap of pieces which were inexpensive which you could trample over and move stuff around to find what you wanted. The old guy who owned it a mine of info about types of wood and what was best for the thing you were making. We lose expertise and knowledge every day sadly. We need your channel badly - a bit of a poem ! 🤗 🦩

Cam, finally, someone who makes a video without annoying background music. Just a good voice explaining what he is doing and why. I have seen videos where the background music is louder that the voice of the person talking. Awesome work. Your tables look amazing and I love the process you go through. I also work alone when doing projects, so its interesting to see how you do some heavier things. Love the leaves. Trying to get a seam in wood to look like it isn't there is almost impossible. You did a perfect job. As for the length of your videos, I have ADD and can't concentrate for too long, but your content is educational and very interesting, so a 30 minute video is perfect.

Cam, i'm an amateur woodworker who aspire to, one day, live from this work. The moment you realized you cut the extension wrong, i felt it in my gut. Even when you measure once, twice, thrice, mistakes happens. When i do it, i feel furious with myself, and i tend to abandon what i'm doing, to never come back. But you said "i bit my tongue a little bit, took a walk around, and then came back and did it the right way". These words reached me. They made me realize it's ok to make mistakes, you just need to take a deep breath and start over. Thanks for your videos!

Cam, I've been watching your channel for the last few years and I have loved it. Your a great craftsman and I enjoy it every time. The length of the view was entirely appropriate to the content you were delivering. I totally agree you need to make it as long as it needs to be to illustrate the process. You do an amazing job at keeping it concise, relevant, and entertaining. Well done. I'm just starting a project myself with Black Walnut so it was particularly relevant for me. Thanks so much for sharing, it's really appreciated.

Cam, As a schoolboy in Wales, I did not pursue woodwork because I wanted to leave school with a full complement of digits on each hand. I am abysmally clumsy, and wholly without practical ability. For me, DIY is destroy it yourself. Your dexterity, your confident use of equipment and your problem-solving capabilities are truly worthy of admiration. Watching you work is fascinating. Your often amusing and always enlightening commentary is also enviable. Marvellous!

Whenever I'm faced with the question of how long a video or written document should be, I think back to my Sophomore year of HS and the advice of my English teacher. She said that "the length of a paper should be like the length of a woman's skirt; long enough to cover the subject but short enough to still be interesting." It's the only thing I learned in high school that I still use on a regular basis.

Cam, I have always believed that this type of video takes as long as it takes. As long as you are not being to repetitive and the content continues to be informative and interesting then I have no issues with anything under a hour. I personally would rather have a longer video with lots of information and content than getting to the end wishing for more. The 30 minute seems to be about right but if it takes 45 minutes to get all the content covered then by all means do it. Most everyone watching is very interested in see the project come together. I like that you do not show 15 minutes of sanding just to create video length. The few I have watched so far has been on point with content and length of time. Keep up the excellent work sir, job well done. Also, continue to narrate the videos please. If I wanted music I have channels for that.
