I suspect the myth about FOs burning off comes from the use of essential oils. A lot of essential oils are pretty volatile and have flash temps in the 170-190°F range, so adding those to wax at 185° would be a problem. Also, I thought the reason to preheat containers was to help slow down the cooling and mitigate the formation of air pockets and sinkholes.

@BlackTieBarn2 жыл бұрын
Yah. I'm not saying that everyone has to add FO at high or low temp. It depends. But the reason shouldn't be burn off. This was one of the highly talked about topics at recent candle congress and the experts spend forever debunking that myth. My advice is always, add FO at lowest temp possible where it still blends well. And pour at lowest temp possible where you can. BuT no one should be afraid of burn off like they are.

Hello! So I have a question - What happens when you melt the wax & FO together? Does that kill the throw at all?

Hey Wade, cooling or freezing your natural wax candle will slow down the oxidation of your wax.....oxidation occurs in natural wax and is speeded up by higher temperatures and light/UV...Of course your wax will not oxidise over a few weeks/months. So practically speaking it won't bring much as I know nobody who wants to store their candles for a few years

No because Chanel is a brand. That would be the easiest to get a strike from. You'd want to rename that. Any brand name would be a no unfortunately.

@@complexcitiesskylines Thank you. Some people try "compare to" or "inspired by", but not sure if that actually protects you or not. I've heard mixed answers and I do know many have still received cease and desists letters when doing that. I would just avoid it personally, but that's me. Lol

If you say that adding the fragrance oil at a high temperature doesn't burn off fragrance oils, then why do they list a Flashpoint on fragrance oils?
@BlackTieBarn Жыл бұрын
Flashpoint is the temp that if added directly to flame can ignite. It's meant for shipping regulations not so much for candle manufacturing necessarily. The exact moment FO is added to wax it's a new mixture and not just FO anymore.

What is the reason behind oils seeping to the top of the candle? Too much fragrance oil? I started with 8% and went down to 6%, but the 6% is still getting a small amount of seeping of oil on the top.

Where are you getting the information that essential oils can be more toxic and arent safer than fragrance oils? Arent essential oils naturally made and fragrance oils chemically manufactured?
@BlackTieBarn2 жыл бұрын
There are a ton of natural materials that are not safe in the world. And it isn't that essential oils are naturally unsafe compared to FOs. I am talking about in terms of candle making. Most essentials oils shouldn't be anywhere near an open flame. And most EOs are toxic, there are exceptions. Just like with fragrance oils, many are skin safe... some are not but out of these two... one is designed to be burned and okay near a flame and meant to be blended with a wax. The other isn't. So EOs should be used only in very small amounts. The purpose of this wasn't that FOs are better than EOs or Visa versa. Just that it's different when not candles. It's pretty common knowledge in the candle industry, its just on this list as many new makers ask this question
