I have to say that I was wrong about the Blade 330S. It is a fantastic helicopter! I have had very bad luck with it just flying crappy. I tried a bunch of different programs and just could not find a way to make it fly well, like other Blade helis. Finally, I found a KZbin for programming the 330S. I followed the video step by step and completed the new program/profile. Thank you BrianPhillipsRC! The 330S now flies perfectly as I expect for a Blade. What a great machine! I have programmed many other helis into my DX8 G2 successfully, but I obviously messed something up on the 330S. The video cleared up any problems.

So I just tested this with my new 230s, but Blade actually uses fluorescent paints. Which means that not only does the canopy of the helicopter reflect the light. But when the UV rays from the sun hit the paint on the canopy, it actually produces its own light and thus is going to appear much brighter than if it was a non-fluorescent yellow paint. And you can confirm this yourself by getting a violet or UV wavelength light source, an LED or a laser, does not matter, and shine it at the canopy of your helicopters. The blade ones should pretty much all glow under the UV light.

The funny thing I've found about the RC Aircraft "addiction" is that so many people "want" to get into the hobby, but they never take the first step. I've tried to get people to try it, but they always have about 23 rebuttals, and I don't get it...it's like I'm trying to get them to sign up for a pyramid scheme or something - LOL Best thing I've been able to do, and we're in a unique set of circumstances to do it, is just GIVE someone a plane, or heli and say, DO IT - and frustratingly enough, that STILL doesn't work. It's like the old expression - you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make them drink

Really great flying man!! Isn’t it nice flying a heli with a variable pitch tail rotor? Besides the scale realism there’s just something to the sound and locked in feel it provides that I really love. I don’t know, I guess I’m just excited to see more helis on your channel haha. Here’s a fun sport flying maneuver to try that I really love: from a hover, get it moving backwards and then slowly spin it 180 into forward flight while maintaining a constant track over the ground. It’s a coordination move I learned training on the real ones and it’s a lot of fun!
@BrianPhillipsRC3 жыл бұрын
I'm playing with all sorts of tricks, but I fear I'm just kinda wiggling the sticks - I want to learn these maneuvers properly, so I feel more "in control" as I advance through he ranks.
@Stinkles_3 жыл бұрын
I hear ya, and it’s easy to fall into a reactive, “wait not that way the other way” style of flying with helis, haha. My advice which applies to full scale as well is to be deliberate, stay ahead of the aircraft and always be thinking of what control input is next. Don’t let it fly you, in other words. Not that you need advice, you’re kicking ass!

Throttle hold on, is it 1 or 0? How am I supposed to know what 1 and 0 is? Why doesn't it say on or off on the transmitter?
@BrianPhillipsRC2 жыл бұрын
Look at the switch. There's a denotation for 0 (one position) and 1 (the other position). You can decide which direction makes best sense for you, but for me, I've decided pulling the switch TOWARD my belly (while on lanyard) to minimize the chance of accidental un-doing. The reason it doesn't say "on" or "off" is that it's a programmable, or configurable switch. That switch could be used for landing gear, or for some other function. That's the beauty of a GOOD radio system that allows you to use what feel right, and easy to reach for you...not for some engineer in China. You get to set the way you like it. Good quesiton Corek

@BrianPhillipsRC3 жыл бұрын
Standing in the cold sucks - NO DOUBT - but, have you ever tried wearing NITRILE GLOVES? It gives nearly full dexterity, but makes it so much more comfortable. I use these things at work pretty much all the time, but I forgot to grab them when we went to film this clip. Also, smartphone with capacitive touchscreen will still work. amzn.to/3cMpf4C - the "work" gloves are nice, but might even be too heavy for what we're doing, but I will also take one pair, put it on, then add a second. I usually like a pretty tight fit, so I'll wear L or XL and then stack them until I'm good for temp. Then when we're done flying, I just peel them off as a SET and they're easier to get on and off again. If you don't mind baby powder, you can powder them to make them a breeze to get on and off...but I don't really care. I'd give it a shot, and you might find that winter ops are not that bad - my hands are the most exposed part of me when flying, and those transmitter bags just scare the crap out of me....like I'll accidentally pull the throttle stick up and knock off the throttle hold in one fail swoop ;)

I have about 8 hours on the sim now, if it flies as well in real life as on the RF sim, I got this. Using an NX10, 40% Expo, 60% low rates. I can fly it on 100%, but I can't wait to get this heli now. HH does need to come out with some cooler bodies tho. Too bad it doesn't come with flashing LEDs. I have to disagree that learning on a RF simulator won't really help you. There's no way I would buy or try to fly the 330 heli without first using the RF sim. It's Not real life, but it has built my muscle memory. By the time I get one I'll be ready to fly it. Wish I would have bought one when I first started flying. I did use the one a few times at my local hobby store. It absolutely helped. The only plane that will really help you to learn to fly without crashing is the Carbon Cub with Safe and GPS. It's almost impossible to crash. I learned with the Delta Ray, but I had my share of crashes. Hot glue kept me flying.
@BrianPhillipsRC3 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry if what I said was misunderstood. I think simulators are amazing help aids, but I personally (With fixed wing planes) think flying helps me to CARE more and to learn some hard lessons faster and more effectively than on a simulator. I think the simulator can really help a lot of people, but some people will learn from the school of hard knocks well too, given SAFE is so helpful, I love the route of simple plane, in good circumstances, PLUS simulator for windy days.
@robertwren22893 жыл бұрын
@@BrianPhillipsRC You're a great pilot Brian, and a very good communicator, but Crashing or school of hard knocks never taught anyone how to fly, staying in the air teaches people how to fly, repetition teaches people how to fly, and that's exactly what the RF 9.5s does. You're learning to PPG by staying in the air and doing it over and over and over again. Had I spent more time on the Sim or buddy boxing which wasn't really a thing in 2014, it would have saved me a lot of money and time fixing things. Crashing did do that for me, I'm pretty good at putting planes back together again. lol I would like see you push that a bit more for newbies. People listen to you, and you could help many who are frustrated and scared about crashing. And if they bought it from your channel, you would make a bit of money. If Newbies spent one week on a sim, they would be able to fly a plane that had Safe competently. It took me about three months to really get the hang of flying. Believe it or not, no one told me it was a brain thing. So I guess you could say I'm from the school of costly knocks. lol Absolutely love your excitement when you get a new plane. Lets fly!

They DO wobble when spinning up to speed, and it's scary to watch. If it KEEPS wobbling, you might need to loosen the main rotor blades JUST a bit so they can more freely move on the pivot....BUT be careful you don't OVER LOOSEN it or they could come off... Good luck, hope this is all you need ;)

I think something is wrong with the flight controller on mine. Its acted weird alot. Ill get everything set up, fly it fine then put it on the shelf. When I go to fly it again the stabilization had turned itself off in forward programming, the flight modes dont work and the throttle works occasionally. Weird. Wonder id I got a buggy flight controller?
@BrianPhillipsRC3 жыл бұрын
That is WEIRD. I don't know if the settings for Forward Programming are stored in the Flight Controller or the Rx....since I'm still fairly new in the Heli scene - LOL - but if mine were doing that, I'd be careful to backup you model(s) in your transmitter. I had another subscriber have this happen to him on a woeful journey of failure trying to get a Viper Jet rebuilt. I honestly can't recall EXACTLY what we did to fix it, but it involved power cycling after getting the controls (Servo Reversing) set initially, then saving things to the "External Card"...then he never had the issue again, or at least I didn't hear about it.

Man I had a 230S V2 and safe did NOT work. I used the config from the spektrum site to setup the dx6e and there was no auto correct and if I did hit the panic button it would veer hard left. I tried testing it during stable flight and every time I would press the panic button it would crash. They replaced the heli as a courtesy but I decided to sell it and switch to planes LOL.

@@BrianPhillipsRC I could only fly it out of safe mode. It was really strange. I’m not a great pilot so I had to stick to box maneuvers and things of the sort. There’s no saving grace with heli’s that are in acro mode.

@@BrianPhillipsRC yeah I saw that too and did that. I saw a few threads regarding drifting while having the heli “learn” safe. I expected that to work out of the box. During a learning flight I had to give it continuous rudder for about the first 15 seconds and then I had to slowly keep increasing rudder to get a steady hover. Well I ran out of rudder hit throttle kill but not soon enough and smoked a palm tree. Horizon took care of me though. Now I have a plane and am having way more fun with that and not crashing! lol

Let me ask...I'm not necessarily new to RC helicopters as I had one some time ago but had to get rid of it. I haven't been in the game for sometime and the technology has changed a bit... but I bought a BNF Blade 330S and also a NX8. I noticed after purchasing the NX8, a combo with a AR8020T DSMX 8-Channel Telemetry Receiver was part of a combo in some ads. Do I need this or another compatible receiver for my heli and transmitter for the telemetry readings? Please help me with a little more of the new technology as I have been reading and watching more about it....BTW I really enjoy your enthusiasm and love of the hobby. I just might have to get a plane some day. First, let me get back into the helicopter and finish paying this off...LOL Good work on your videos and wish there were more RC groups out in Montana...
@BrianPhillipsRC3 жыл бұрын
You don't need the Receiver, as this is a BNF heli. Also, as an aside, I wouldn't get the Transmitter/Receiver Combo, since the included Rx only had Telemetry, but not AS3X/SAFE (WHY Horizon Hobby?!?!?!)...I'd just get the Transmitter, as a rule. As for being out of the game for a while, this Heli and Tx you got are a great launching point. Make sure you get SAFE turned on, and it will help a TON! If you're not sure how to do it, watch the RADIO SETUP parts of our Unbox, Build, Radio Setup, and Maiden Flight videos...the first of any playlist anymore. We have thousands of videos to help get your feet back under you, and I try to be available to help with questions as they come...this is the most demanding part the KZbin channel (keeping up with comments).
@dannymccargar20213 жыл бұрын
@@BrianPhillipsRC thanks for the quick response...I can't imagine how many you probably get and likely the most demanding part of your channel...lol on that note, haha what you are saying is that this BNF has a telemetry receiver but not AS3X/SAFE, however I can program or turn on a safe mode? I have watched your unbox (not really build, hahaha) and radio set up and definitely going to use this for step by step guidance. I'm sure I'll need to make some personal adjustments when comfortable with the technology of the radio, setup, and the helicopter. oh, another question is about your batteries, seriously, with the batteries being so dangerous sounding, how are they stored and were as either way, they can be an issue if anything may happen. I understand not leaving them alone when charging, but off charger and alone and at night or away? what's your thought? maybe more questions to follow...LOL hope you don't mind....

Erin, if you want this Heli, the 230S might be a bit cheaper place to start...but I can say if you CAN fly a plane, you CAN fly a Heli. It's JUST a little different - enough to make you need a clean set of drawers if you let the heli get away from you for a fraction of a second!!! Planes are just "easier" to predict. You can pretty much tell what they're up too... Heli's more like teenage girls (and I'm a man) you literally NEVER totally know what's about to happen - LOL ;) That being said, YOU CAN do it...but the quesiton becomes, do you WANT to do it? This heli is very good in my book, and I LOVE the 230S as well, but you gotta weight the relatively expensive 850mah 3S packs from the 230S when considering pricing of this vs that....this one will get you in the air with a super-common 2200mAh 3S 30C pack. I had to build an adapter for using 1300mAh 3S 30C smart packs on my 230S...good call on my part, but this bigger heli is going to be calling my name every time I go to fly [a heli] for the foreseeable future. Hope this rambling stream of conscienceless helps you decided ;) 330S bit.ly/3xeVAun 230S bit.ly/3s1ZzaZ
