We don't like to admit that 95% of the time we use our pocket knives to open a package, which leaves our families wondering why the heck we drop $200-$300 on a knife whose job any $5 box cutter would do. We must be crazy.

Hey. I was in the Army and they sent me to Iraq in 2003. Knifes were used for opening mail, MRE’s and the occasional 550 paracord. No knife fights or skinning game the entire time!

@@coolbreeze2399 Respect to you for your time in Iraq first of all. But going back to the knife discussion, let's be honest - if you fought a war in Iraq and most of the time a knife was only used to open mail, an MRE package, and the occasional paracord, that proves the point that we don't need a $200 knife. However, I admit that we don't act logically 100% of the time. And let me share a secret... I'm fixing to buy a Benchmade Bugout for $200 🤣shhhh 🤫

I got a bench made bug out with aluminum scales, one of the strongest tools I’ve enjoyed using. I use it for everything from boxes to simple camping tasks. I recommend it to anyone on the fence about Benchmade Knives and their warranty is incredible, and they replaced my aluminum scales when they were damaged for no cost after sending them in. A fantastic customer service team, too👍

I am a BENCHMADE addict. I currently have 14 of them with 3 more on preorder. The reason the two speakers kept comparing the bailOUT and the taggedOUT to the bugOUT is because they are a series. The blade thickness is the exact same on all three models. The tips differ because they have different purposes. The blade length is also the exact same. The handles are slightly different to accommodate the intended purpose. The “rubberized” they kept talking about is called santoprene it is a synthetic. I can attest to the durability of this material. The puko is my EDC fixed blade. The puko and leuku are also intended to be a set. Both knives are fantastic plus 3V is one of my favorite steel M4 and Magnacut being my top 3. Followed by cruewear being number 4 and 1905 being number 5. For those of you who don’t know, cruewear is literally an upgraded formula of D2. CPM created cruewear in the 80’s. It’s also not a new super steel it’s old school super steel. It is what all “super steel” today is compared to. D2 is a very popular steel for all the reasons the tool steels are popular steels (tool steel starts with a letter followed by a number. I.e D2, M4, W2, A1) the reason D2 is so popular is because it’s a anomaly being that it is in fact a tool steel which means it has a higher amount of carbon. 12-13% carbon in D2. To be considered a stainless steel it needs 11% or less of carbon. So D2 is a good choice cruewear is a better choice and now Magnacut will rule them all. Btw I am so excited for my preorder mini adamas in Magnacut and my preorder taggedout in Magnacut both from BladeHQ. If you feel like buying one Benchmade is too expensive I urge you to reconsider. I do agree that if a person wants just a pocket knife to last them the rest of there life getting a basic bugout is the best option also a basic griptilion or a basic 940 also good. But better to upgrade the blade steel and the handle material. I don’t personally like S30V (It’s brittle) but most people will never meet the limit of that steel. I have been a a loyal customer of bladehq for a very very long time.

The Flyway refers to a migration route ducks use. It is made for the delicate work of cleaning birds. I have a Bugout, Bailout, and Infidel. The partially serrated Bailout is by far my favorite. It's like having three blades in one.

I appreciate that you have a good amount of USA knives, which most all of the Benchmade are, AFAIK. I admit, I have a bugout 535-3 as my EDC, and have a Hidden Canyon for skinning, I could skin with the bugout if I really had to, I just prefer a fixed blade. My most cherished blade doesn't have a name, it's a 4" version of a clip point (mini bowie) that my dad gave me when I was about 4 years old, I have cleaned dozens of fish and taught myself to sharpen on. The old beat up leather sheath has my dad's initials carved into it. It can shave hair, but I broke the tip off using it like a screwdriver so it's been reshaped at the tip. I think it's time to pass it along to my own son...he only got to meet my dad once and he was young and doesn't remember. I have a couple other nicer knives, an Alan Kartzen (framelock) that is much nicer than the bugout with timascus...but it's too big in my front pocket, where I carry the bugout...in the end the Bugout wins...Let freedom ring!🗽

I have a Benchmade bug out in sv90 with carbon fiber grips, I can honestly say I have never been more disappointed with a knife. Mini grip! One of Benchmades best knives..probably the best bang for buck, especially when it was under $100 a few years ago and you could choose from a bunch of different colors. I just bought a mini presidio 2 and it's a badass knife as well. But the mini grip will always go down as the most ergonomic pocket knife available. The longer you have it and use it the more everything about the mini grip makes sense. It just sits in your pocket so well and the little audible click you hear when you pull it from your pocket is satisfying. Not to mention how easy it is to open with one hang and then flick it close. You'll find yourself jonesin on Benchmades designs because they market well, but be assured that the little griptilian is their bread and butter and they are fools for discontinuing from their custom shop.

Oh and it has a full liner unlike the full size grip and bugout and claymore ! Blows all those knives outta the water and is cheaper! Anyone who says it's too small, yeah tell that too the deer I gutted up and skinned. The 20 cv on mine requires more elbow grease to sharpen but it stays sharp a lot longer. After 5 years of carrying it and it being fidgeted with thousands of times, the only that happened was the spring became dislodged and so I had to manually open and close the knife, but it would still lock into place and work! After about 4 months of it being like that, I sent it in and back she came clean and oiled, with a new spring! Sent me a couple of oxided deep carry clips for free too! If your the type of person who is constantly losing their stuff and keep nice things, these over 100 dollar pocket knives are not for you. But if you can keep track of your stuff and boy when you fork out over 100 for a knife, you will! Then they are worth it. Their prices are getting out a little crazy but it's not crazy if you're not a collector and use your stuff.

Before you buy a Benchmade… buy one of the many other brands that do the crossbar lock far better (and cheaper) than Benchmade. The hogue deka is cheaper with better materials than the bugout and IMO the implementation of the lock is better, it’s much easier to get good action without blade play. I have the magnacut version with OG aluminium scales on it and it’s incredible The best crossbar lock I have tried is on the Kunwu pulsar, it has beautifully textured titanium tabs on the lock rather than just pulling back the bar itself, it’s on bearings so it has perfect drop shut action while having not even a hint of play in any direction - which is something you’ll never find on a Benchmade. Also if Benchmade released the pulsar they would probably charge like $1200 😂😂 I have a Kizer drop bear on the way which has an adjustable crossbar lock and is also on bearings. I know clones are wrong, bad for the economy, workers theft of trademarks but the clones on wish are actually pretty sturdy Ive carried them for several hunting seasons and they hold up and for a worker like me I can now occasionally buy a benchmade or spyderco but as a veteran most guys serving can't afford these knives

Ive been collecting knives for 30yrs of all kinds and price ranges from Spyderco to Cold Steel to Zero Tolerance. Probably every folder you can think of but i have never purchased a Benchmade. They just dont impress me and i dont like the axis lock. Michrotech autos are where its at 👍 if you wanna be impressed

Before you buy a Benchmade, understand that they are now massively overpriced in respect to their build quality and steel types in the current market. But they're benchmade, so they can get away with it.

I feel like every auto I’ve ever handled from benchmade has waaay too much blade okay considering the price up against microtech and heretic. But I do like the pukka for a fixie and the bailout with original goat ti scales. I’ve been hard pressed to find anything that can dethrone my Brian Brown Raptor v2 for the price. And on skiffs, my god it’s gloriously smooth on the drop. With ergos like rassenti designs and a blade shape like the crk umnumzaan, how could you go wrong?

Benchmade has some absolutely great designs but they are disgustingly overpriced compared to what their competitors charge for the same materials and quality. Spyderco is way way more affordable and offers a wide variety of steel and price points to satisfy the enthusiast as well as the person looking for a good work knife at a good price. It's not even like Benchmade is just a bit overpriced. It's so overpriced it's offensive. I do love some of their designs though. The mini Adamas and the mini freak are really cool. But you can get a spyderco para 3 for 100 dollars less than a mini adamas. Ok this Spyderco fan boy is done ranting. To those of you who can afford benchmade and aren't concerned about the price, or those who just really really love benchmade and chose to save up in order to get one, I hope you enjoy your knife and I'm sure you won't be disappointed in quality. God bless.

I love my Benchmade knives. I have 3 and there great. However, Benchmade... I know we have inflation but come on. Your prices have got out of control. I bought my Bugout for $126 just a few years ago. What on earth did you change about the knife for it to run $170 and higher. It not just you all the makers are going crazy on prices. I bought it but really the bugout is a $70 dollar knife. So are most of the blue class.

@@Knivess0 III dont know.... I've bought around 30 BM's from the beginning of this year. I have objective feeling that it got a lot better, because in previous years I was really mad on that QC :-/ I actually had to return one of my first BM ( bugout) because it wouldn't lock properly no matter what :-/. It was faulty piece that wasnt ever suppose to be out from the factory. But now... especially with newer models like Shootout, Claymore, CLA, Presidios, Redoubt.... all with late 22 or 23's "birthday" stamps on the boxes I cant say a one mean word towards my feelings with these knives out of the box. I Hope they heared and really improved. Considering higher and higher prices they are asking. But I do actually mind the rapid growth in prices. But maaan. I am bussiness man as well and I had to raise prices as well in my company just to pay all the higher bills and to raise paychecks of my employees so they are happy with working with me and that they continue to improve and be better. People can always choose to buy some other cheaper knives. It is not such a essential item as food or medicine.

@@Knivess0 Yea, I hear you. 👍The 2023 BM pricing can't be objectively reasoned just on the basis of inflation, raw material prices, electricity bills, war in Europe, or higher salaries for the employees. There is definitely something else going on in the BM board members and ownership that we just dont know anything about :-/ It is sad that customers just feel the consequences of such management. Hopefully they will feel the decrease in the sales and think again on their pricing policies. But dont know.

The Puuko is a great design, but I had to shim the inside of the sheath with layers of leather to keep the knife from literally falling out. What a waste of a nicely designed sheath, with a dangler no less! Didn’t anyone even check to insert the knife and turn it upside down? It needs to be at least a half-inch deeper, as well as tighter. Leather stretches, right? And you’re carryjng it HIKING IN THE WOODS?? I improved it, but as it is I have no real confidence with it in rough terrain. If I keep it I’ll have to have another sheath made. I have 50 other Benchmades and am obviously a fan, but the overpricing is really getting old. $180 for a D2 Redoudt? $270 for that Bailout that was $220 MSRP two years ago? Seriously? (By the way in your video you have it incorrectly priced at what it should be, $180, not what it is on your website, $270, and the Saddle Mountain skinner is incorrectly shown as $198 when on your website it’s $252, or up $30 from last year. You need to get someone to xref all the prices you show here against your website ASAP.) FYI, also 12-18 months ago you could get a Steep Country for $120, now it’s $162. Yeah, that’s all a hard sell. However, thanks for the overview, you definitely sold me a Taggedout, I didn’t know it had the Select Edge design. I have both the Saddle Mountain skinner and Hidden Canyon hunter in S90V Select Edge, and they’re amazing cutters, so I’m a fan of the technology. 👍
