Excellent demo. I shall be trying this one out on my Ridgeline to hold a Tarpaulin instead of the Prusik Loop. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

I did have to ask Matthew J Norman for a bit of advice. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment.

It is a good knot to know, because you may have a couple of ropes but no ascenders in an emergency situation. Contrary to popular films, most people cannot climb a half inch rope without ascenders. A couple of lengths of rope with bowline loops for your feet and Blakes hitches run through a bunny ears harness to slid up the rope can be the difference in getting to the top at all or descending at a dignified pace rather than 32 feet per second per second. Not my first choice but a viable one. I have only ever actually used it in constructing large deadfalls, though. It will hold a big log or rock where you put it. That I can say from experience.

Thanks for taking the time to share this information, I always love to hear about knots and cordage being used in action!

Hi, great simple explanation thanks. Why is this better/ worse than a prusik? When should you use one over the other? Thanks again for the video.

I think this may be a better question for the climbing community, as I think they really rate this one. Thanks for taking the time to view and also make a comment, very much appreciated.

Remember everyone those are not décorative knots to impress your bride.. depending on type of rope you are using they could never work properly use back up devices t'ill you get the right expected use of knot be safe 🙋.

OK, I give up: Curiosity is killing me... What does that mean???

@@kennethsizer6217, Remove the running end not from under the second turn of the winding, but before the last: three turns are enough to tighten the tent, fixing the loop, and for pulling the rope crossing or lifting the load with a polyspast, their number can be increased to half a dozen. The classic scheme is the same 2+2 (3...5+3...5) it will grip the steel cable more tightly, because it bends it more than it crimps it.

Also safer to use stopper knot. .

Yep, safety, safety and more safety.

Whenever anyone says. "You don't need a stopper knot with the blah-blah-blah," my reply is, "We don't need a stopper not if YOUR a$$ is hanging from it. But, if I'm the one in the tree, then we're tying a stopper knot."
