It is made for European driven hunts. You can switch optics and/or barrel really quick if you want to. For example, you can be on a stand on a driven hunt in an open field, so you put your driven hunt scope on. But in the afternoon you are on a stand in the middle of a dense forrest, so you put your red dot on. All while holding perfect zero. Let's say you had a 9.3x62 barrel on it for the driven hunt, but the next morning you are on a high seat hunt in open field. No problem, you put your 7x64 barrel with a high magnification scope on and you have a way better ballistic profile for longer range shots. It's great that you are always using the exact same gun. It really improves your shooting. And don't forget the PERFECT engineering on this masterpiece. The quality is superb.

In Sweden we mostly use a 156 grains bullet in our 6.5-55 because of our ridicilous rules of caliberclasses. 140 grains bullets will need a very long barrel to create the minimum speed of class 1.If you reach class 1 you can hunt everything from moose and down, I think that the 284 came out for that reason but it never hit the Swedish market, the Swedish government sometimes (about every 5 year or so )threaten us with led ban and copper bullets in a 6.5 and 2000 joule is not that easy to create thats then the bigger 284 was meant to fix the job but as long we can use led the 55 still survives.(Excuse bad english)

@15:20 Blaser no longer makes barrels for R93. You can buy a barrel extension from a third party (basically the rear part of the barrel with recoil slot/scope mount) and treat it as a regular action and fit any barrel blank you like. Your gunsmith really needs to understand how the R93 locks, the angles are important for the strenght of the lock (Håkan Spuhr of Spuhr mounts explained this in Vapentidningen as a few dangerous barrels suddenly appeared on the market). I went through a few 6,5x284 barrels in the R93, all shot very well, I would expect 3-4" @ 600m. I now use R8 because of the barrel supply, or rather non-supply.

Hi Ron Have had an R93 for almost 20 years. Mounted in a norwegian GRS Ragnarok chassis. .22LR barrel for practice. 6,5x55 for longrange and .3006 for hunting. Less than 2 minutes to switch barrel and bolt. The scope mount is faboulous. Keeps the zero 100%. I know my rifle incredible well. Never failed and very very accurate when I do my part 😊 The R8 is great but trigger and magazine is one piece and very expensive. Now - I’m not a dangerous man. Read somewhere that the the most dangerous man is the man with just ONE rifle. I must be one of them. Same chassis and same trigger. Just different calibers. My rifle is a part of my body. But just for hunting, practice and target shooting. That’s all we need here in Denmark. Love your channel - and your dog 😘😘

I believe the rifle was designed to enable European hunters more choices in cartridge calibers for a single rifle. Some countries have limits to how many firearms you can own. It provides one rifle that can be changed to other cartridge calibers. There are also over and under shotgun and rifles models with barrel sets too. It sort of takes the fun out of having a rifle case full of different firearms we can have in America. Sako made rimfire rifles with barrel sets for different rimfire cartridges too; I remember seeing one year’s back. There are some really highly engrave Blazer rifles with beautiful wood stocks too. Thank you for showing the one you have. ✨🙂✨
@erikedlund8711
@erikedlund8711 2 жыл бұрын
You're right, Sweden for example has a limit on how many firearms you can own for hunting, and a cartridge change capability is one way to sort of work around it within other limitations (it's a long story regarding how gun control laws work in Sweden). The Blaser R8 is really popular here, and I would recommend it over the R93 due to its improvements in the bolt locking mechanism (it can take ridiculous amounts of over-pressure without failing dangerously, the same can't be said for the R93). My biggest problem with Blaser is how expensive they are. An extra trigger control and magazine for the R8 will cost around €700, you can get a decent rifle for that price!

Big maintanance tip for all R93/R8 owners out there. Dont ever get oil on the interface between the barrel and the stock. Right where those screws are that mate the barrel to the stock, if you get oil on this surface you might get accuracy problems especially if you dont thighten the screws to the correct 11nm. There is some clearance there for you to be able to remove the barrel nice and easy, problem is the system relys on friction to hold everything in place. Keep the interface nice and dry, as you install the barrel push it lightly towards the butt end and evenly tighten the screws to 11nm. Its sometimes insane how much more accurate a R93/R8 gets if you religiously follow those simple steps.

The 6.5-284 is a great cartridge. The problem is...there's a 6.5-284 Winchester, 6.5-284 Lapua, and a 6.5-284 Norma. They're slightly different. No ammo companies would make ammo for them. Norma got the 6.5-284 Norma saami spec and makes ammo, but that's it. No major ammo companies in the US would make ammo for them because of the possible confusion. That's why Hornady, Gunwerks, and GA Precision designed the 6.5 PRC cartridge. It's almost the exact same cartridge without the rebated rim. It a very close copy on purpose. I think it's a great cartridge for mid-size game. Deer, antelope, goats, sheep etc...It's not my first choice for Elk, but if Ron says it'll get the job done...I agree. LOL I haven't tried a Blaser rifle yet.

Blaser is a favorite. Savage has introduced an epic straight pull which continues tilt the EU market away from extravagantly priced hunting rifles, like Blaser, Heyman, Sauer and Walther for as little as 1/5th the cost. Nevertheless, that R93 sold used could easily go 4 times the cost of a new Savage Impulse, which is an awesome straight pull, very popular with German, Austrian, Swiss and Scandinavian hunters.

The Savage is actually a copy of a very old system invented by Heym their SR30 is still being built today and is also very cheap

@@DUKEisALIVE Interesting. I just assumed the SR30 would be expensive as are many long guns manufactured in Scandinavia and western Europe. I became aware of this design originally from Heym after observing the rifle again on USOG. I miss my Sauer 202 Highland light Alloy, but must have a straight pull next.

@@russellmiller212 Just looked it up. In Austria the Savage Impulse is about 1950 € and the Heym SR30 is about 1450€.

I will recomend the Strasser before the Blaser. it's alround a better rifle and better looking to ;) It's by the same man that broke out of Blaser and made his rifle better in every way :)

Sadly difficult to find barrels for the R93 now since its discontinued. A 6,5x284 and a 4-16x on it would be good mountain rig. I have .308 and .375 in mine.

If you think the R93 is good, you should really try the Blaser R8. We have 3 stocks and 4 different calibers, each with their own QD scope. Amazing that we can go from 375H&H to 22lr in about 2 minutes on the same stock.

If benchrest and PRS among other precision disciplines is anything to go by, does that imply the straight pull system is disadvantageous for precision or does it limit precision reloading ease and hence not in favour by precision disciplines?

R93s are getting very expensive again, used barrels in 6,5x55 Swedish and 308W are going for close to 15000 SEK or just about 1500 USD here in Sweden. I recently purchased my first Blaser, a barely used R93 Professional with no wear marks on the bolt rails or stock. Also got fortunate enough to get a brand new barrel for it in .30-06, it shoots great.

The 6.5-284 is pretty much dead. And the new PRC will follow. The 6,5 will eat barrels with too much powder. The 6,5x55 will remain, maximum powder for a non barrel burner 6,5. And with a Blaser you get the correct bolt travel for a x55 length cartrigde.
