Since Sakurai has been tinkering with Luigi and Ganondorf's moves, meaning he wants them to shed their status as clones, so I don't think they will be deleted because of this.

The fact that Corrin follows every single piece of criteria better than Luigi or Sonic is crazy to me. Also I still don't understand why people thought Lucario was a semiclone of Mewtwo just cause he made it to Brawl but Mewtwo didn't. They share 1 (if we wanna stretch with Fsmash, 2) move(s). I could make the argument that Incineroar is a semiclone of K.Rool because they have super similar Nairs and Down Smashes but I'd look like an idiot, now wouldn't I.

This was really good! Obviously characters like Luigi, Ganondorf, Sonic, etc. wouldn't get cut, but most people who make these types of videos tend to just get rid of every fire emblem character because "Fire emblem bad" or keep obviously irrelevant characters so it was nice to someone look at it based on how they've cut characters before.

I'd argue along with Sonic and Mega Man Terry could also stay. As Sakurai said SNK was extremely easy to work with. He went in for like 30 songs and came back with 50 and a bunch of background characters. SNK is like the Grandma you visit and leave fat even though you weren't that hungry.

I’m also gonna vouch for Ryu and Bayonetta, since Ryu is legally obligated to crossover with everything imaginable and Bayo is pretty much a Nintendo IP at this point.

As an add-on regarding the Kongs, Yoshi, and Wario- they all host their own distinct subseries. Wario with Warioware (and Land), the Kongs with DK Country, and Yoshi with, well, Yoshi.

The best part about this roster is that you can add back in Luigi, Ganondorf, Sonic and Mega Man, and it still fills up a nice and even chart. (Pac-Man maybe as well, considering Bandai Namco helps make Smash, and then the random character slot can just go off to the side or something.)

In Sakurai's Famitsu Column volume 496 (discussing the DLC for Smash 4), Sakurai says "I personally felt that having too many Fire Emblem characters was a problem, but after talking it over with the development staff and discussing logistics, I felt certain that I could make them a fun character." Key thing is "too many Fire Emblem characters". So Corrin should be cut in regards to the "low priority" bracket.

Ness should be cut too. He like Jigglypuff was considered to be cut in both Melee and Brawl to be replaced with Lucas and the Mother series has been finished for nearly 18 years.

With the no future rule with the representative aspect, I would probably loosely define it as if they represent something beyond their franchises or that their franchises have a huge impact on gaming culture and all that they would probably not get cut from the roster. So characters like Game and Watch and ROB would probably be safer from being cut in general. Though they could get cut and become assist trophies probably.

When it comes to 3rd party representation, I think there's one third party character I'd put higher... Pac-man. *If* the next game is developed by Bandai Namco again, then Pac-man is almost third party and that might be a huge boon

Donkey Kong has borderline been in every Mario Sports/Kart game since the Country reboot, along with playing a part of every single Mario Party despite not being playable in 5-9. Diddy has also been a frequent recurring in those games too, granted not on the levels of DK, but still enough that he’s recognised as a member of Mario's cast. K Rool has only appeared in Mario Sluggers, a sports game that didn’t even get a PAL release, so he’s not got that recognition as being apart of the Mario cast. DK and Diddy have enough that people notice when the latter is not in a Mario game the former is, I’d say that classifies them enough to be Mario characters. Plus Donkey Kong is literally the starter for the entire Mario franchise, and has had multiple Versus games where it’s a fact they’re the same universe.

I don’t 😅. I expect about 15 or 20 characters to get cut at most. Most smash games get close to that many characters cut. But nonetheless if possible I would like just to port smash ultimate and add more content and dlc on top of it even if it might be difficult. We are so close to a 100 characters in smash ultimate already that it be a shame to cut to many in the next smash and never reach a 100.

I feel like that answer is obviously yes, smash was and is a celebration of Nintendo, always has and always will, however the room to welcome other icons of gaming has grown and people enjoy it, but smash would definitely survive no 3rd party characters.
