The reason Pernida eats Nemu is because it learned how to do so through Mayuri's Bankai. During the fight, Pernida learned several things: how to talk because of Zaraki, gained Zaraki’s physicality, developed the skin-peeling ability due to Mayuri's Bankai, and even learned how to eat without teeth. Essentially, whatever Pernida touches, it learns and copies that behavior. Also pernida didn't randomly decide to consume Nemu even though mayuri was right there. I think it was being instinctively cautious. Keep in mind pernida has bested mayuri so far and even outwit him at times. Nemu just popped out of nowhere and obliterated it twice. She was the greater threat. Pernida likely wanted to copy the superhuman qualities of nemu and eliminate the threat of her completely similar to how Mayuri had Jizu eat it. Plus Pernida wanted to evolve further so it chose the Jizu method (which it recently learned) of eating Nemu’s scraps to reach that next evolutionary stage.

43:24 I’m glad the anime finally clarified how Mayuri shocked Pernida with his headgear because when it comes to the manga, we don’t know how he did it. For years, the wiki guessed that Mayuri somehow countered the Compulsory with his Spiritual Pressure which is hard for me to imagine Mayuri being able to do that someone like Pernida. I knew it had to be a device somehow.

In a way Kenpachi and Mayuri did lost their daughters but in another way they didn’t because CFYOW kinda described Nemuri as a new body rather than a new creation, but I’ll probably have to reread that part. Also I love that final scene that regardless of his many unethical and legit war crimes, he’s still a hero who fought in the front lines for the sake of the world.

The reason why Mayuri was able to dodged that many arrows was because he pressed that button to high max heirenryaku that happens to have a sensory radar that allows Mayuri to dodge automatically if it sensed any danger to the user

The way Mayuri defeated Pernida reminds me of that Deadpool comic. He basically helps the Skrull acquire his super soldier serum. Which is VERY BAD if they get that. But Deadpool says: "My cancer is balancing out the regeneration. The cells kill themselves faster than they heal, which is how I'm still me." And then the Skrull soldiers with his DNA were just bloated and disgusting. So very clever that Mayuri used advancement and rapid progression of cell structure to defeat progress.

Mayuri coming to his senses towards Szayal comes off as if he's renouncing (or at least trying to renounce) the little empathy he'd developed... "I've finally created a soul from scratch that has evolved on its own. I've finally surpassed you, Kisuke Urahara!" This kind of gets diminished when you remember Jinta and Ururu. The CFYOW novel stated that Liltotto is pretty much Kirby, so with that in mind, she has eaten some of the powers of the Soul King. Foreshadow?

The thing is Nemu has free will and can grow. Mayuri exceeded Uruhara in that regards. Jinta and Ururu are suggested to just be purely Mod Souls with no growth. Hence why they are still kids even though Urahara has been exiled for 100 years. And they turned robotic when fighting the Arrancars.

@@ZeroTolerence0 Jinta and Ururu were shown to have grown during the Fullbring arc. It's just not known if they have the lifespan of either a human or a soul (that goes for Nemu as well). And it's only Ururu that "turns robotic" when fighting. One can argue that Nemu's the more "robotic" one, seeing as how she's not very expressive, but that's not a serious argument... Regardless, it's likely both scientists wanted them to be more than just a mod soul/gigai combination, not like the ones from the Bount arc that had their own personal gigai bodies that they could just... eject themselves from. We can clearly put the 3 in a separate category apart from Kon and the Bound mod souls, more in the camp of homunculi. By that definition, Nemu should be the only soul reaper that's visible to all humans regardless of them having spiritual abilities since she's technically the same as Jinta and Ururu.

@@ZeroTolerence0 That's not how it works. Bleach's cosmology is directly based on Buddhism. You go to hell after death only if you lived absolutely horrible life (early in the manga/anime we saw low-level Hollow being dragged to hell and there's both Szayel and Arruniero there, too). And it's not "rest of your existence" - there's no such thing as eternity and it's exactly written down how long person will spend in hell depending on severity of their sins in previous life... and then they gonna die and reincarnate in other realm, again. Worth noting that what happened to Komamura also is directly based on Buddhist idea of reincarnation. If you die while holding to strong, carnal desires (like strong thirst for revenge) you'll be reincarnated as animal. Also Aizen's current state is basically just achieving Nirvana. He became immortal, separated himself from this cycle of reincarnation.

Arguably in the field of creating “artificial” life Mayuri has surpassed Kisuke kinda like how Aizen surpasses Kisuke in the field of Hogyoku matters. I also like to think Nemu getting destroyed by Pernida after she broke him into pieces was no accident Nemu would be aware of all the various odd organs and drugs Mayuri has implanted into her body so she likely gave herself up knowing that well if anything infiltrates her body it will come to regret it which is exactly what happened she likely bet on Pernida cells going into overdrive after coming into contact with her. Also with Mayuri Bankai remember he didn’t actually modify his Bankai with what was left of Nemuri 5 he used that to unlock his Bankai in the first place so I’ve always thought a argument could be made that Ashisogi Jizō itself is Nemuri 5 or rather the Bankai specifically is Nemuri 5. Can I also say here I love that we are getting more of the Bambi 5 even if Giselle has now turned three of them into her Zombies haha and I love how completely unfazed by it Liltotto is.

This episode was surprisingly very emotionally effective. I had completely forgotten about that moment where Mayuri is haunted by the memory of Szayelaporro in the manga. It really goes a long way to show that Mayuri really had begun to develop real fatherly care for Nemu. Also, the music and animation in this episode were particularly fantastic.

“You’re here to stay” is actually a vocal version of the same song “here to stay” from the original anime which is just an instrumental version using piano notes and string instruments. I only noticed this because I used to listen to the bleach soundtrack a lot when I was younger. Similarly the song during shikai Shunsui vs Lilie is a “Rakugo Play” version of “battle ignition” also a very memorable song form the original anime.

Mayuri is character I still dislike for obvious reasons, but I do love how he was taunted by szayel with him basically saying " oh you were so prideful as the sadistic monster that didn't give a damn about anyone but himself, yet here you are distraught over her death , ha!" And seeing toshiro and rangiki is reminding me of the gerald fight, which should have a better conclusion.

I'm not sure where Tekking gets his translation from, but Mayuri calls it shameless, not embarrassing. This makes sense as beforehand Pernida had only used soul King powers, so he probably deduced it was refusing to use the quincy based powers.

I feel like it was a missed opportunity to not have the squad 4 work closely with squad 12. A bunch of what Mayuri does makes the 4th division look obsolete, like their job is basically "recharging Reiatsu batteries" Anyway, that part about Mayuri "forgetting" to go through his chems and Nemu noticing it and doing it herself was a test, I think. Mayuri was wanting to see if Nemu could think for herself and do what she thought was right rather than just follow his orders and judgment even if he's wrong

Mayuri's was only taken off due to a reactive explosion, but Nemu lost hers somewhere during the story. - Why did Pernida not use his Voll Stern Dich? We saw his wings in previous episodes, but not now. - When did Giselle turn Meninas and Candace into zombies? LeTato specifically said that she had to knock out Meninas but did not kill her. And the knock-out happened away from Giselle. And now Meninas is a zombie.

I imagine Mayuri will create Nemuri Hachigo from the remains of Pernida and Nemu no.7's brain. And with the help of 'revived' Senjumaru, Mayuri can make the next Nemu as a support/healer or maybe another shield if she had Quincy abilities when he fights his opponents

I think what he meant when Mayuri said he is the one who created life ahead of Urahara is, that he is the first one who created a body with a soul from nothing, the others acjieved it by pouring a part of a soul, or using an amalgamation of souls. Now for Ururu and Jinta, they are a mystery, but based from Kon, they are probably the same as the usual, a life form from amalgamation of souls, more like an asauchi and even white.

I'm still blown away that even after all of data he couldn't concieve that Pernidas could just break out regardless of his nerve power. Ya know just from a pure scientific aspect I can get Mayuri's frustration. He's probably been hands off with her once she reached maturity besides modifying or drugging her cause it might come in handy but everything that Nemu was. Everything that she learned, experienced, her actions, and reactions. If the the premise is a blank slate Nemu he is effectively going to be re-reading notes. Which sounds awful. Mayuri doesn't strike me as someone who's interested in studying something a second time

I feel like the anime really let these chapters down. They blitzed through them and never gave any moment a chance to breathe. I actually missed the pacing of the old anime - it would've overdone it, but it would've given Mayuri's despair weight and time, and not played a damn rock song over it.

In my opinion, this movie is, at the bare minimum, disappointing. This comment may possibly be a spoiler since you've said you never watched the movie, so feel free to skip it. The plot revolves around a fellow Shinigami Academy student who shares the Zanpakutō spirit with Hitsugaya, a concept that contradicts the established lore of Zanpakutō being personal manifestations of Shinigami souls and the only Shinigamis who share their Zanpakutō are some noble family members. The movie also states that, for some reason, sharing a Zanpakutō spirit is forbidden by the Central 46, leading to Shinigami fight to death to determine the rightful owner. Additionally, while the movie is supposedly centered around Hitsugaya, Ichigo overshadows him.

I mean unless the thing's stomach is a meat grinder, those arms were intact when swallowed, so it was always a little silly he thought he'd won. They'd get burned on the outside from the acid, but it'd take a while to actually digest while overcoming the regen even if it's super accelerated. So the best case scenario would've had Pernida trapped, but alive, slowly dying if he had no way out... Plus being inside kinda bypasses all those outer nerve layers that were protecting the bankai. So of course he had a way out. A lot of the fight was showing Mayuri isn't perfect. He has back ups and contingencies and trap, but he still makes mistakes. And he made someone who could actually fill in for those at critical times, though that wasn't his intent in creating her.
