While it’s true that Shunsui mostly explains the rules of the games he plays, I imagine the reason he can just use Kageoni out of nowhere against Lille is because Lille told him he has intel on his Shikai abilities. Therefore, any games he showcased before, Lille should know the rules and how to play them.

My point was that if shunsui could use all those moves without explaining, there's 0 reason why he would need to explain them, unless it's like tekking said, they make it stronger.

@@Blackmustache870​​⁠​⁠Shunsui pretty much stuck to mostly regular swordplay when it came to most of those sneak attacks and didn’t play those rule games until his Shikai was in the mood. I think Kageoni is the only one that can be considered unfair since he dealt a serious wound before explaining rules since Bushogama has no rules. Barro of course has intel on that game. He also dealt a light blow with Irooni on purpose for Starrk to figure out.

@taserface598 and starrk was pretty casual as well, only wanting to force shunsuis bankai out, not kill him. In the end, starrks soul was damaged from kageoni in the manga. There's a reason shunsui had to resort to a blind spot move to deal a severe attack with iro oni and that's because he couldn't otherwise. Starrks defenses even with a soul nerf were extremely high. With just one sword he made shunsui sweat and shunsui immediately opted for the blind spot move after starrk brought out the second sword(manga). Again u guys r missing the point. The og point is tekkings pov of how dumb it is for shunsui to have to explain his rules.

When an angel appears in the Bible, often times the person seeing them is stunned or falls to the ground in shock, reverence, or terror. I think Shunsui being paralyzed then is based on that

Hey there Tekking! The Quincy release is called a "Vollständig" which is german for "complete". Same as the meaning of Bankai. The awful VIZ translation of "Voll Stern Dich" is honestly pretty offensive a change, annoying and entirely incorrect. It's german as well but literally means nothing and is grammatically incorrect, it's just phonetically similar. (Voll Stern Dich meaning "Full Star You) Vollständig is correctly pronounced something like foll-stan-dick This is by no means a slight directed at you personally, I understand how silly this is. they don't know where he's shooting from, there's no bullet, they just get a hole in them so you understand how getting to know his position would be difficult right? The reason Shunsui freezes- Shunsui's Darama game makes it so that if the person doesn't see you moving after they attack you, then you can travel towards them on the trail of reitasu left by their attack almost instantly and can be invisible while you are calling out the name of the game. But if the person sees you, then you get paralyzed and the other person gets a free hit on you. That's why Shunsui uses this in conjunction with his Kageokuri game to make it more difficult for them to find him. Kageokuri makes it so that if the person stares at your spiritual signature for a long time, you end up creating a shadow image of yourself that the opponent sees instead. And the higher the opponent's spiritual sense is, the more realistic the shadow replicate becomes. And while the other person is paying attention to your shadow, you are quickly sneaking up behind him while in invisible using Darama. Both techniques help each other out. If they don't sense you spiritually, then they can't find you because you're invisible. But if they do try to sense you spiritually, they will only see your shadow duplicates instead. In the end of 646 though, Shunsui didn't know how Lille was gonna shoot him (since Lille was using his wing holes instead of aiming with his gun). So Shunsui wasn't prepared to travel on the trail of the reiatsu of his attack and he was caught, therefore he was paralyzed.(source reddit)

Ah yes, the supposed guaranteed "one for one" Bankai that has zero kills associated with it after being used at least twice. If it were an actual one for one power then he'd have died the first time he used it. End of story, pun intended. And he has used it at least once before going by the dialog and the fact that he even knows what it does. Yet he lived to fight another day. Meaning that's not how it works. I can't wait until this Bankai finally gets explained so that people can finally stop claiming that nonsense about how it works after all these years. It was always obvious that wasn't how it worked but so many people went and made "explained" videos stating it as hard fact. But then again, Unohana's Bankai was never explained either. Yet that didn't stop people from stating how it works.

Hard W for the multiple acts take. My head cannon is that the bankai create a play between Shunsui and his opponent where they are essentially in a game of chicken, where both of them can die. The different acts in the play vary , depending on the zanpakuto, but the end result is always a pact of mutually assured destruction between him and his enemy. Who can survive the play is who wins.

I've always wondered about the power gap in Bleach, it awalys puzzled me how come Shunsui beats this form of Lillie yet they win against zero division. Unohana, Yamaji, Kenpachi, Ukitake and Shunsui are so above the other shinigami it feels off, I think that Shunsui can beat even post division zero Byakuya, it would be good if Kubo powerscale the characters.

As for zero squad, I can only speak for the anime since in the manga the answer is *le shrug*. In the end Senjumaru makes it a 1v5 and then she's specifically caught off guard by Uryu, who got a pretty massive upgrade in the anime given how we saw him deal with Renji including straight up tanking endgame attacks. As for shunsui, Spoiler alert for anime onlies... Shunsui doesn't beat Lille. He basically loses right after this. A very specialized zanpaktou for someone else does beat him. And even THAT doesn't actually kill him, but splits him into several weaker....bird things? It's all very weird lol.

@@AzraelChaos I'm caught up to the manga, what I meant was that Shunsui should've not have the power to push Lillie this much (I love Shunsui, he's my favorite captain), the only way would be a vicious trainning directly from Yamaji and or Unohana, we know how later in the series a lot of powerful soul reapers go against a single enemy, so either Kyouraku is extremly talented or he had special trainning, cause I believe that, at this point in the series, strategy can only do so much. As for Senjumaro, in terms of anime I agree, she fighting against all of them is unfair, it was right that she lost, my point being that Kubo leaves so many things on a broad spectrum that it starts to hurt the series's logic.

This episode only proves to me that I was right in choosing Shunsui as my favorite character. And his Bankai is a perfect representation of his personality: hyper-pragmatism wrapped in childishness. Given I also saw translations as "Ziriel" or something similar with a Z rather than "Jilliel", and the transformation's appearance, I think it's a bit of an Neon Genesis Evangelion reference to one of the strongest angels, Zeruel (14th in the OG, 10th in the rebuild movies) since the initial body, at least before switching to centaur shape, and later bird shape, strongly resembles that angel's body. Zeruel was similarly one of the toughest fights in that series (and probably the strongest in terms of direct combat power as opposed to mind invasion, body invasion, or shower invasion like the later angels end up using) No guarantee I'm right about that tho. Both Jilliel and Ziriel/Zeruel seem to have angel lore counterparts outside of anime on a quick lookup, so both can be valid. Spelling also varies a lot when it comes to angel names in religious lore and fiction (up to you whether you see a distinction between those) since they've been translated many times over the centuries. See angel of death with Azrael, Azriel, Izrael, Esraeil, etc.

Something that I always wonder about Shunsui's power is can he get new games as long as a child makes them up? Or is he locked in to a certain set of games? Also for the whole "I have to tell you the rules but I can start the game even if you don't know them" thing. I think its because its children especially young children and how they start games that he can do that and he even gives a around about explanation in the episode and sort of fits with how kids start games often times with someone older. If you've spent any time around young kids and probably did this at least once when you were a kid, you'll know if they want to play tag sometimes they won't ask they'll just run up to you say tag your it and run away. When you do something that breaks a rule or you start winning they say your not playing right and then you ask how am I supposed to play and then they finally tell you the rules. His shikai works the same way and he even says something around the lines of "When a child takes your hand you have no choice but to follow/play along and something their will" I don't remember exactly what was said but it was something like that. He doesn't need to tell you that you are playing a game because he's telling you that you are already playing and has to explain once you understand that he's using his powers. Shunsui tries to get the kill before he's forced to explain the rules.

I think that perhaps the final act cannot be activated unless the opponent resist the 3rd act. The 3rd act is depicted as the lovers jumping out of shame and regret and accepting their fate. The "disgrace" and "selfishness" of the lover who then attempts to undo this is perhaps what causes the final act to be activated, one lover killing the other after being betrayed. This might also explain why his Bankai is more dangerous for him and those around as the 3rd act who affects everyone badly and could kill them might not necessarily be done so quickly or at all.

I love how back in middle school before we got to this part in the manga the speculation was Oda wrote himself into a wall with the captains power levels and we'd never see most of their bankai cause what could it possibly do that doesn't also kill all their teammates. I love how Kubo does show 99% of bankai and yes some of them will kill teammates so the captains go so far out of their way to make sure only the enemies get caught in it. Love you Kubo ❤

I think this is like the beginning of the end for essentially Kubo giving up when it comes to the Schutzstaffel's abilities making sense and them just becoming impaccable undying 'things' who won't die no matter how hard you hit them. No clever ability to outwit not even a contest of two opposing forces. Nope their powers is: "You can't kill me no matter what" And what leads to this is also just off the wall. Lillie couldn't just activate his Vollstandig. Nope. Nah he has to take damage 3 times. Just...uh okay. Mind you a mere 2 episodes ago Uyru tanks a heat nuke and then goes immediately into his holy form. No BS. So it makes you wonder why Lillie was made to be special in that regard. If Lillie took that same attack from Renji and he was only hit one time what would this special condition matter? He'd be dead.

To me the whole thing with taking damage 3 times felt like Lille was just being an arrogant prick. A self-imposed rule because "oh he's so powerful, yh's messenger yada yada". With that said agreed, quincy powers do become random bullshit go after a while and it's a shame.

@@DavC7 I came to a realization while back and forths are a staple of anime this arc in Bleach the bad guys all have powers or perceived second winds only through the power of losing and not losing in the sense that its a tough fight. No. That their next stage in defending themselves is almost being dead, is triggered by damage, or outright being killed like Gerald. And that...isn't really all that cool. If anything its lame. The Schutzstaffel getting their buff from the Auschwahlen even thought they were all 100% going to die, Gerald literally having to have his head shreaded like a cheese grater to activate the Miracle and then subsequently every single attack or strategy that would have killed all the Espada 20 times over a piece survives every single one. All of his power ups triggered by LOSING. Assuming Lillie isn't just being a prick - which he is - his power is triggered by losing. All of his evolutions to compensate for the damage is triggered by losing. Hell Both Uryu and Haswalth's shrifts only work when their losing. When I noticed this it really started to bug me. Especially since in the end every single one of them died because Kubo wrote himself into a corner so he used the almighty plot contrivance of the Auswahlen to just kill them

I like the horse angel form , not so much the chicken 😂 One argument I’ve heard is that Kubo gives all the black male characters a lame awakening. Zommari, Pepe, Tousens fly form etc. I don’t think that’s the reasoning behind it but it’s just hilarious 😂
