Just noticed you were using the peroxide in the clear bottles. It’s been a while but I remember seeing something somewhere talking about why peroxide is stored in a brown bottle. Hydrogen peroxide is highly reactive that can react with light or heat to produce water. To prevent it's reaction with light and heat to make water it is stored in coloured bottles so that light doesn't pass through it. You may already know this but I thought I’d share 😊 👍🏽 Thank you for the video! Love your tests, very appreciated!

I made quite a few “acid wash” shirts back in Nov. I used 100% cotton Gildan shirts. I did not know about the peroxide trick. About 1/2 of the shirts started developing bleach holes after 5-10 washes. I found the heather style didn’t bleach as easily, and I did have a purple that would not lighten and ended in a whole lot of holes! I also had an orange that did not go light enough to see the design well enough.

Great video! What percentage of polyester shirts can you either use a sublimation printer or ink transfer sheets on? I had thought it had to be 75% polyester or higher, but I noticed you used 65%. It's a game changer if lower percentages can be used!
@TheDarqProject3 жыл бұрын
65 poly/35 cotton is ideal for bleaching. 50/50 will still bleach, but you have to use diluted bleach (higher cotton count leads to very thin fabric and holes) and it likely won't flash to white where bleach is applied. Higher poly counts (especially 100% poly) are great for sublimation, but won't bleach since it's actually the COTTON fibers that bleach, not the polyester.
@AngieHolden3 жыл бұрын
I think you got the answer! I usually do at least 75% for regular sub but 65% when bleaching!

When you sublimated and then bleached, you washed the shirts after. The shirts you sublimated after bleaching had not been washed yet had not been washed after sublimating. Did you notice any fading on those after washing? I'd much rather have the crisp look but if they are going to fade a little either way, the bleaching after subbing seems so much easier.
@AngieHolden Жыл бұрын
Sublimation would not fade on a 100% polyester shirt but since these have some cotton it can fade some. I didn't notice anything in particular with these but I didn't have a sample to compare them to either.

Angie, I love your video. I tried today at 71degrees outside, but it was part sun & clouds rolled in as I was spraying. I sprayed on splash-less straight bleach. I had combo of shirts cuz keep hearing diff things. I used 5 shirts - 100% cotton, 50/30plus mix, 60/40. Colors were teal, Heather burgundy, Heather purple, mauve & hot pink. I had them out there for an hr & it didn't start to do anything. I did lose most of my sun & some wind caused temp to drop a bit. I tried a hair dryer & that didn't help. I brought in cuz rain came. I rinsed in peroxide & put them in the washer. I guess I will try again on a defintely sun warm day. What am I doing wrong?

It is probably the brand of shirts. You might try something else.

Do you do anything before bleaching after sublimating, do you wash between processes? IE Sub -> Wash -> Bleach -> Wash? Also, what Bottles do you use? I find it impossible tto find a good spray bottle that does a fine vertical mist or even a steady stream. The vertical (straight down) aspect is the most difficult.

Hey Angie! Whenever I sublimate on a bleached shirt the colors come out darker and not bright, any ideas why this is? I also get pretty bad scorch marks which I know I can fix with peroxide but I haven’t been able to figure out how to get a nice bright print onto a bleached shirt
@AngieHolden Жыл бұрын
Maybe the polyester content? Generally shirts that bleach have less polyester which will lead to a print that is not as bright.

I left it for about 35-40 mins flipping back & forth. It looked decent so I decided that was enough & threw it in the washer with plain cool water..... Well OMG, it has holes in 4-5 spots, it yellowed where the white areas were.... Just a total HOT MESS.... Trashed It! Is it the shirt, the bleach too long or too strong (if so how do you get it to be white)

Holaa .. i like me your canal, What role does peroxide play? In the discoloration, how do you make it white? Why is it orange?
@AngieHolden2 жыл бұрын
For discoloration, it is singed and the peroxide lifts that from the fabric. The peroxide after bleaching is to stop the bleaching process.
