I saw this trick on another video and figured I'd give it a shot. It seemed to work just fine and is probably possible with most cars.

Bro! I built a race truck. Swapped to a 6.2 motor, and a custom 5 speed transmission. The transmission was also custom built. The gear shifter has always vibrated and the clutch engaged very low. It was always a soft clutch. I thought that was how they designed it. One day...boom clutch had no pressure and won't go in gear. I see the reservoir is bone dry. The slave and master were new, with braided line. I do this exact thing but with a tiny syringe. Brand new clutch and shifter now. Clutch engagement is where it should be. Great pressure, and shifts like a dream. It takes a while to get all the air out but literally cost me nothing. If your in a bind... This works great.

I forgot to mention that I had no choice but to do it like this. My situation was I test drove my truck for the first time after the motor swap. Re wired EVERYTHING from sound system to power windows to lights. Drove a long way because everything was working great. I go and eat lunch. When I got back the clutch had no pressure. Truck has a 5/8 drop on 24's. No way I could get under the truck without a tow or someone bringing tools. My wife brought the tube and syringe.

Useful .. I just did a swap. I wish I had thought of that. The clear tube makes wha't happening visible. In the final stages I wonder if removing the plunger would make sense, because at that point the air will float up and out anyway. I ended up unscrewing the slave cylinder and rotating the bleeder "up" instead of "down" (its operating position) That worked .. and I could see bits of air blowing out as my helper & I did that dance of "Open, shut etc "". What you did is better because one guy can do it. Tks!

I did this process maybe 4x to make sure all the air was gone after doing a new SS clutch line, slave, and master. Used the same syringe as in the video. Now I get a sponge soft pedal after hard driving. The firmness eventually comes back but clutch pedal gets softer after hard driving…guessing there’s still air in there? I checked for leaks and nothing, fluid level is fine

I spent about a week on my Honda trying everything including vacuum pumping short of pulling my master cylinder off which is a total pita to access. I saw you and two other guys use an oil syringe for this so I'm going to try this and I'll let you know how it goes!

How did it go?
@ThorsDecree
@ThorsDecree 2 ай бұрын
@@michaelcliffe562 I ended up forcing fluid through the slave bleeder with about 2atm of pressure with the syringe while simultaneously pulling about 2atm of vacuum via the reservoir line that feeds the master cylinder. It was only when I did _both_ simultaneously that I started bleeding off significant amounts of air. As I suspected, I had enough of an air pocket in the master cylinder that it was preventing the fluid in the reservoir from flowing. Just pushing or pulling from a single direction only produced enough pressure to compress the bubble. Now my clutch pedal is probably at least as firm as it was 26 years ago :D Definitely recommend the syringe. If I had to choose only a vacuum pump or only a syringe, I'd go with the syringe. Using it without the vacuum, I was able to get _some_ clutch pressure, but not enough to fully actuate the slave piston. I _never_ thought I'd spend over a week bleeding a basic hydraulic system like that. My neighbor's an engineer and he was starting to question his sanity over the whole thing too haha. Didn't think I'd end up at the horse store looking for tools for my car lol. I guess horses are technically hydraulic systems, now that I think about it.... Hope that helps if you're having the same issue.

@@ThorsDecree That is awesome! Thanks so much for the answer! I'm from Germany and I've been trying to bleed the concentric slave cylinder in my FWD Renault Clio for...well, about a week now! I've vacuum bled it, pressure bled it, reverse bled with vacuum and pressure from top to bottom and vice versa and nothing works! So this is the next thing I'm going to try as I'm convinced that the air bubble isn't even in the slave cylinder anymore.. I've ordered a sringe kit on Amazon and I'll let you know after easter. Again thanks alot for the reply!
@ThorsDecree
@ThorsDecree 2 ай бұрын
@@michaelcliffe562 as long as you have verified that fluid can flow, that the line isn't blocked, it should just be a matter of getting the right amount of pressure. Depending on how your master cylinder is set up, jack up the front of the car or park on a hill. It'll help you get air out of the master cylinder. Good luck! Btw, if you have any farm stores around, I used a horse syringe. Same tool, but the livestock store sells it for 1/5 the price an auto parts store charges. Good luck, brüder. Let me know how it goes, I can relate to the struggle haha.
