This is the manual way to get air out of the diesel engine if you dont have vcds or dont know how to run the fuel pumps to bleed the air out.

This video helped me immensely after replacing the pump, injectors and filter after a catastrophic pump failure. Many thanks for the video. I had a 2008 VW Touareg. Took all of about 5 minutes.

This worked for me too and really pulled me out of a hole. I replaced all 6 injector seals and the car would not start even after using vcds to run the pump about 10 times. This strategy got the car running in about 5 minutes. Thanks very much for uploading this.

Thank You for Your Video, after changing the intake or "drallklappensteuerung" on our Touareg we didn´t get the car running again, after one week of trying and looking in the internet I have found your Video and that was successful right away ! Thank you !!

Very useful video. I bled it a few times and the car nearly started. So a few more days of bleeding and I think it will run again!

Thankyou Mate. It worked on my '07 Q7 tdi. I first tryed just cranking straight after changing the filter. Then read somewhere to use a tech tool. Then I found this video and success!

Thanks so much, it worked!! I first tried priming the fuel pump with vcds which didn’t work. I ended up loosening both fuel pipes in the video at the same time, let it crank for 20seconds and saw air coming out, once fuel was running through I tightened both pipes and engine started after another 20seconds crank.

The Q7 BUG engine has a design "bug" in that the fuel rails on both banks are at a ~ 3 deg. angle to the ground, and are not perfectly horizontal. This is not the case e.g. with A6 BMK where the rails are perfectly horizontal and the engine starts after 4 seconds of cranking. Not so on the Q7: the 3 deg angle results in massive airlocks in the front part of the fuel rail when servicing the injectors, removing high pressure lines etc. You can hear air entering the system and bubbles right after you unscrew the high pressure line nuts before repair. And the engine won't start after 4 seconds :). You'll be measuring 0 bar in the rail pressure sensor and wondering what's going on. On the Q, I first bleed the low pressure circuit with VCDS or manually by powering the fuel tank pump for 30 seconds (make a cable and power the pump from the engine bay fusebox through the fuses). This also bleeds the circuit to the high pressure pump, so your HPFP won't run dry while cranking. I then loosen - but not fully remove - the left rail front bolt (not the injector line nut) and crank a few seconds until fuel comes out. I repeat this on the right side. This way the airless fuel gets pushed from the left rail to the right. The engine fires up some 3-4 seconds after the right side is tightened. This process requires two people, one person cranking and the other loosening and tightening the two bolts. If you crank too long, the low oil pressure warning may be triggered. The whole issue could be eliminated by parking the car on a slight incline nose down when doing the servicing.

checking in. my 06' q7 3.0 bug wouldn't start cos it wasn't getting used I've never had enough battery over the past 3 months to start it cos l had to work interstate I did what you said and bloody hell it started, l had to leave the passager side undone a little to vent the air then I tightened while it was cranking and trying to start thanks mate I'm very happy

Does this work in the newer 2013 model? we did EGR work and replaced the filter. Then ran the in tank pumps for a several minutes intermittently. Tried cranking it a couple times, no success. I'm concerned air is in the high pressure pump and dont want to crank it over more. If we bleed those to lines on the rail and it turns over will we be safe on a 2013? Thanks for the video, best I've seen so far on the subject.
@alistrepairs3 жыл бұрын
You can definitely give it a try, it will surely purge the air out of the system. Diesel needs pressure to start. Remember to start with the rail further back then work your way forward.

@@alistrepairs thank you. I read some harsh warnings about damage if you don’t use vcds. But we followed your video. it turned over and ran smoothly for 20 miles. In your opinion is there no risk of damaging the pump at this point? Maybe overly cautious but I’m not familiar with these newer technologies. Appreciate the help.

@@uriahgunn1321 you'll be fine, there won't be any damage to the pump. Great that i could help 👍👍

Will VCDS only prime the low pressure fuel pump and not the high pressure side? I think so...? The HP pump is ran off the chain not actuated by VCDS. If I'm correct then surely you always need to manually prime the HP side. Maybe someone knows the answer?
