If you were to do it again, do you think the 1" wide roll would be easier to wrap the header? Also a suggestion I'm pulling from bicycle handlebar wrapping, starting at the joints and finishing at the mount flange, then from the collector up will have the overlaps in a direction that wouldn't catch or hold water. Think overlapping like shingles on a roof. Looking forward to a follow-up video when you think you've got a good idea of how well it dropped under hood temps, how well it's holding up, the idea that they cause the exhaust to rot from the inside out etc..

HOT tip- use regular plastic zip ties at first. Much easier and quicker to work with, so you can focus more on the wrapping. Then you can even do the painting over the plastic zips, let dry, remove the plastics one by one (if you really want to go all the way then spray each "ring" of bare wrap as your remove the zips), and finally install your stainless steel zip ties.

A couple Irwin style quick clamps really help if you are doing this by yourself. Get the first couple wraps started then clamp it and anywhere you need to stop and make a cut clamp it so it stays tight until you can strap it down. Like an extra hand. Sometimes trying to keep it tight and neat while getting the band clamp on can be frustrating, the quick clamps really help with that.

Hey.....thanks for the video, lots of info. Question: wouldn't you want to start a wrap from the bottom instead of the flange ? You mentioned a lot of water exposure. Like a roofing shingle overlap from top to bottom instead of otherwise. Seems like it may trap more water. Just a thought.....thanks again.

Good on ya Matt! Practice the easy stuff first. I have been considering (read procrastinating) on this for a long time. I have an actual header that I paid a fair amount of money for . . Not the OEM tubular manifold. So that is part of why I have been putting it off. Gale Banks says I will void the warranty if I wrap. So-o-o, I guess I will be "considering" a bit longer .. . Great as usual, though. Really appreciate the quality and pleasant entertainment value of what you do here.

With the other stuff, the titanium wrap, what did you mean you have to paint it first/ added processes? Do you paint the wrap before and after? or are you saying you have to paint the header, then wrap then paint again? I have a roll of this in my garage i want to wrap my muffler under my cab (a TJ) so the tunnel on the passenger side does not get so hot. I have no AC and in the summer the floor/tunnel is so hot. Thanks in advance for the info.
@bleepinjeep2 жыл бұрын
with the titanium if you want to paint it, you have to installthe header (unpainted) , paint it, then start the car and let it warm up to very hot, then let it cool, then paint it again, then repeat 3 times. This is because (as per the manufacturer) "it doesn't absorb the paint very well" and must be done in stages with high heat inbetween. seems like a pain to me.

Can I ask, why get the fiberglass type wet before application? Is this so that it will shrink and tighten as it dries? Or is it just too stiff to deal with if you don't get it wet?
@bleepinjeep Жыл бұрын
Ya, I believe it expands a bit when wet then shrinks and tightens up as it dries. But imagine it also keeps you from inhaling glass fiber dust! ouchie!

I dont think you have to worry about rust as long as you run the car. I can understand if you get the wrap wet and then park it for weeks but, if it gets wet one night then just leave it running or go drive it the next day and the heat from the exhaust will evaporate all the moisture?
