I had the same thing happen , recirculating door , blend door fail, I took the door out , cleaned it and applied silicone to the fresh air side and relocated it sealing off the fresh air supply. I made a short piece of plastic strip a wedge while the silicone hardened. I did cut a slit in the door about midway up 2” long horizontal, this allowed me a spot to apply pressure with the wedge and will provide positive air pressure in the cab. Completion of project was achieved with success good cold air from all vents.

My friend has 2002 with the same recirculation door issue. To do this job the right way is expensive. So I jerry rigged the door with a self tapping screw to the outside air inlet and charged him $30.00. The buddy discount. So now he wont have access to outside air, but the cabin is nice and cold with outlets blowing as they should with no restrictions of air flow as previously.

And that was one blend door. My truck (06-2500)is my second ride so I took my time. I took the whole dash off, dropped the steering wheel, disconnected the heater hoses, a/c, radiator overflow container, air intake ducting work to access the two screw studs coming through the fire wall. Got my plenum box out. Replaced all 5 doors with after market doors from company called "Heater Treater." I did not follow their directions since I did not want to cut my plenum box up.1000screws is not the word.

Hi Joshua, you're right, there are other air flow doors present in the system. If you don't have a shop manual we saw mechanical drawings on the web that show where each of the components are located. Unfortunately you may have to do some disassembly so you can correctly diagnose your problem and identify which parts need to be purchased. The dealership has also been helpful in providing mechanical drawings so that you can see the path of the air flow. Good luck with your project.

Hey Jun, My guess would be one of the directional doors is not opening since you've got cold air going to at least one side - suggesting a different problem than the one in the video. An air flow mechanical diagram would really help you. The dealership may print one for you if start talking about buying parts but you're not sure which one. The parts counter guys may even help you with diagnosis - then a diagram and the parts to fix it.

The video should have included you showing how you did the actual REPAIR WORK so as to show any problems that an individual will encounter and how to overcome them to achieve the goal of replacing this defective part as quickly and easily as possible. good video. i jave an 03 1500 and blower works on all speeds but air is not coming of the vents. do you think my blend doors are bad and i have to replace them? when i switch on the control i hear the motors working but no air coming of od dash or floor

I used to replace these daily when I worked at Chrysler....we used to just pull the dash foward, lay it on the seat, pull up and toward you on that cage after removing the two screws that hold it in and replace

Only need to take off glove box door and trim plastic behind glove box to access actuator. remove fan motor to reach up inside and remove old door. It takes a little wiggling but came out easy. Installed the new door with a little effort lining up the actuator....

I have your trucks twin lol same color. Anyways my heat isnt working blowing cold all the time the blend door isn't opening for the heat to come thrue .. So that. Switch on the side would make it do that?

I have a broken blend door on my 2010 dodge nitro. Would it be possible to take the blower off and rig something to keep the door in the correct position to get heat, and then in the summer, rig the door in the opposite position to get AC? Do you know if the door open is heat or AC?

That's not a blend door. It's a recirculation door. All it does is change air flow from indoor to outdoor. Has nothing to do with heat or air.

The reason Dodge provides the entire casing is to correct a molding error on the OEM part. The video shows the axle insert moving between two stop points on the box. One stop point is missing on the original and the new door will have the same problem as the original and break when it goes through a calibration process. HeaterTreater has steel components and a complete knowledge of the operation and repair of the system. With a plastic replacement, you'll just be doing it again in 6mos.

Great vid, my a/c and mirror heater lights are flashing. The a/c seems to be working fine, but I did a google search and found that the hvac may have failed a calibration test? Any ideas on how I can fix it, or do I probably have a broken door? 2005 Dodge Ram

So, you know that little actuator motor you showed us on the side of the box you replaced? On my 1998 Dodge B3500 (Roadtrek van) I have to open and close the door manually to stop heat from pouring in when I use the AC. SO, in summer I manually move it and then when it gets cold I manually move it back for the winter so I can get heat again. I access the actuator from behind the glove box. But here’s the problem… When I move it in the “winter” direction, I get nice hot air. When I move it in the “summer” direction I get BARELY cool air through all vents including dash, feet, and defrost area. AC is recharged, lines replaced, the pipe is very very cold to the touch. What can I do to make that nice cold AC come in during the summer? What’s happening when I open and close that actuator by hand and why isn’t my ac cold? THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Replaced my blend door on my 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 for free. Removed a door at a junk yard in 20 minutes and only cost me the time and money to get to the yard which was only 16 miles away. Removed the fan, removed the glove box, cut an access hole in the plastic behind the glove box (which can only be seen when you remove the glove box and does not hurt the structural integrity of the plastic) and removed and replaced the door in less than 90 minutes and I wasn't in a rush. Could have done the job start to finish in 60 minutes!! I didn't remove any of the dash and it didn't take the best part of a day!!

AL eng Didn't have to. The hole that I cut was about 7" x 3" Enough room to get my hand in to remove the door operating motor to remove the old door parts. And that gave enough room to see what I was doing. Put an led shop light in first so there was plenty light. Did not replace the cut out piece because it doesn't matter if there is a hole in the plastic behind the glove box. Having a hole there doesn't hurt a thing!!

AL eng You don't see the hole I cut in the plastic because it is not the glove box. I removed the glove box first and cut the hole in the plastic behind the glove box. After replacing the glove box, the hole I cut is completely hidden by the glove box even when it is open

I have a 2004 dodge 2500 and my recirc door was working( until I watched another video and it said to break it), Mine was just not blowing hard, it would change speed when switched from recirc to fresh air but it sounded like it was blowing inside the dash. It was loud too. Any advice?

We would not tackle this problem without technical data. We would obtain a diagram (either from the dealership or buy a manual) showing the path air follows through the dash - there are a number of doors that have to work in concert with one another and you need something to narrow your focus. The symptoms you describe sure sound like a blend door, it's a known Dodge problem, but you've stated it's working. We're not sure how this was determined but resolving the blend door problem is probably the easiest thing to fix in this system - we'd take a second look at that.

When I broke the blend door, the one you replaced in your video I went ahead and removed it. When I re installed the blower and tested it I had no air coming out of the vents at all. I had to lodge the door back in place to get some air flowing. I plan on taking the dash apart soon to check it all. Also since I broke the door, my control knob for defrost and the other positions no longer works.

That white plastic insert that goes between the door shaft and the spine outer drive gear of the actuator... any idea if it's available separately? That's the only part I need and it appears impossible to find?? Any techs have any idea aside from going to the boneyards?

It's been awhile since we shot this video and this truck is long gone. As best any of us can recall the dealership did not sell the individual components - only the entire assembly. I'd go to a U pull it scrap yard, pull the glove box door out, take a 7mm socket to remove to actuator motor and a forked screwdriver to remove the piece that you need. That or two screwdrivers to pry out the piece.

This was twelve years ago and the truck is long gone along with my memory of it. The truck is built around the dashboard and the components within it. Best I recall we omitted replacing certain non-functional components that came with the new unit due to too much dash disassembly required and only focused on what the minimum parts replacements were by accessing from the bottom and lower-front of the dash to get is working.

hi gang, hey brad allen you sound like you know these vans well, i have a 86 dodge grand caravan 3.8, and my heater fan blows on like med speed when its on low fan and really fast on high, it got that way after i accidently kicked the underneath panel box on the passenger side where ur right foot would be, now its stuck that way, i tried to kick there again so it would go back to normal but that hasnt worked, have any idea what i can do?

My truck had the same problem. Turns out it was something like a blower motor resistor issue. The part that needs Replacing is a small black box about 1inch by 1inch bolted just next to the blower motor. If you lay on the passenger floorboard you should see it. If i remember correctly it has 1 bolt holding it in. It should cost about $40 and take about 5-10 min to swap out. If you go to your dodge dealer they will know what the part is right away. Hope this helps

The dash can be removed and replaced in less than 8 hours, then the part can be replaced as all new.

Hi 2000, I assume you have a Ford(?) Your truck symptoms don't match exactly to those of this Dodge. On the dodge we pulled the fan motor from the passenger side near where your feet would be, stuck a hand up inside the hole and could feel the broken blend door. To diagnose I'd want a shop manual that illustrates the air-flow path, or, ask the parts guy at the Ford dealership for a screenshot of your dash internals. They'll help you and they're always ready to sell you parts ;-)

it is not a blend door. it is a fresh air or recirc air door. Blend door is a little bit farther to the left.

Hi Jared, since heat is reaching the passenger this implies that the heater core is working. Your problem is most likely with one of the doors not working properly, or, the vent control knob would also be suspect. We've got a 2001 Chevy Silverado and occasionally the vent-door to the passenger floorboard sticks, freezing cold exterior air comes through rather than heat. When it unsticks we can hear it letting loose and heat begins working again.

It's a recirculation door. If the control knob is turned all the way counter clockwise to one of the last two setting the door closes the opening to fresh air, not allowing any fresh air in, thus allowing the air in the cab to "recirculate" . I guess it could be called a fresh air door....... Lol, but it's a recirculate door.

Best way to handle that,, take the 2 screws out of the plastic Piece ,were the window wiper are, take the window wipers off take some duct tape and tape over the vent hole, done
