I’m no stranger to this shader setup, but I love the added value of the node group thing. That’s a great tip! It’s so clutch... is that even a word anymore? Lol. It’s not just a “quick tip” 🤣🤣

You could call it an "ember" shader because it would work for hot coals/embers.

That's what I want to use it for. What factors would you use to animate it? Not just the strength, because that would look like a simple pulsing. How would you make spots here and there glowing brighter then fading, like embers?

A very similar approach but making the Principled transparent (and possibly just having index of refraction of 1.0), could produce a X-Ray style effect.

This is a really great tutorial Nathan! About 10 or 11 years ago, I tried to model an Energon cube, like from the original Transformers cartoon. Unfortunately, the emission I used was overly saturated, and edges near the camera were “washed out” you couldn’t see those edges. With this, I’d be able to see those edges. I didn’t know how to use the node editor at the time. Hopefully - when I get back into Blender - I’ll be able to make better renders of Energon cubes, with the edges noticeable. Also, is it possible to give the emission a rainbow of colors with the node editor?
