Awesome tutorial! A few additional mentions: 1) the arbitrary profile also allows fillets, circles, and voids within the profile, so if you have extruded mullions, this is the right tool. 2) There are standard steel libraries shipped with the BlenderBIM Add-on for EU Steel and AU Steel (and we're currently working on US Steel) so if you are in any of those regions, you can pick from a preset which includes all the dimensions and structural parameters. If you are not in one of those regions but want your region's steel library added, please get in contact with us and we can get it added! Standard steel profiles are done in collaboration with FreeCAD so it helps benefit at least 2 projects :) (more in theory, like OpenSCAD too)

Very interesting indeed! BlenderBIM is really taking shape now. Is there any idea how long before US Steel Profiles will be implemented? I'm happy to contribute to make this happen.
@IfcArchitect Жыл бұрын
Hi @@danieldepoe7286 You can definitely help contribute! Nothing goes as fast as a self fulfilling prophecy. It is underway but you can find out how to contribute here: github.com/IfcOpenShell/IfcOpenShell/issues/3203

This is eye opening… so why are we not using BlenderBIM? I think I can start get my hands dirty now on BBim! Thank you soooooo much and keep the tutorials coming

Hi very interesting project, i have several questions: 1. Add local region of common steel shapes by ascii files or xml e.g JIS database 2. Export geometry (point and line), section and material definition for structural analysis program e.g OpenSees 3. Connection joint definition for beam to column, beam to beam, truss in IFC formats. 4. Reinforced steel of longitudinal bars and stirrups for concrete beam and column. Are those already or possible to implemented in future of Blender BIM?
@IfcArchitect Жыл бұрын
Hi syont, 1. You can add and build your own libraries however they are kept as an ifc file, I dont think it's possible to import a database... yet 2. Yes it exports as an ifc file which should be readable by any other program like OpenSees. 3. Not yet, you can do this but not automatically you would need to model it manually atm 4. I think this is possible, perhaps as an aggregate of a concrete and steel elements but it would not be as parametric If you have ideas or can help implement these I'd recommend posting on the OSArch forum here: community.osarch.org/discussions We need more engineers and other professionals to contribute expertise in how they expect/want features and tools to be

Super 🤩 - I wonder if it is possible to use custom profiles as a moulds/cornieces to build an entemblature or tympanum element?
@IfcArchitect Жыл бұрын
Hi McCornikus, Yes there are people on the OSArch community forum that are doing that I believe, I'm not 100% sure of the workflow but I am certain it is feasible

thanks for the video, much useful how do you update the shape thumbnail in the Tool window after the profile has been changed, like you did with the T-shape column? it shows it correctly in the IFC Geometry > IFC Profiles but not in the Tool pane, thanks
@andrey730 Жыл бұрын
it was a bug that thumbnail in type manager wasn't updating when you edited profile, just fixed it

Dang, this project is changing fast. In the newest versions, Object Metadata has been moved to Scene Properties tab, seemingly along with all other tools. And it looks different now. IFC Object Materials are the third sub-tab of properties and are no longer part of object properties directly in the interface.

Yes the new UI changes are quite a bit, I'm waiting until we get to a level of stability with them before I do a video covering all the changes and the new workflow, but I've been going over it and I think that is necessary before we do other topics

Can you add fixings that have automatic holes/slots for the Beams?
@IfcArchitect Жыл бұрын
I think this is possible with IfcAggregates but I will have to investigate, once I am certain I will make sure to update
@mipe7755 Жыл бұрын
I just wish it was already easier to edit a beam's length. If only scaling them in their local Z axis would be enough...

How did you create rounded-corner square profile?
@IfcArchitect Жыл бұрын
Hi @htlcnn You can make it by using the: IfcRoundedRectangularProfileDef Preset You can see it on the list here at this timestamp: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pGmal3lnp6tppM0

How does make a timber colum with a groove and two holes and then send that to CNC?
@IfcArchitect9 ай бұрын
Hi Wing, you would need to model the shape manually at this point. Then you would export the drawing to cvg and convert it to a dxf with correct layers, from there it should be able to be CNC cut

@@IfcArchitect Is there any way to translate IFC to BLT format?
@IfcArchitect9 ай бұрын
HI@@wingtipzzz I am not familiar with the blt format, but Ifc is a 3d format it should be able to be exported to any other 3d format
