Do I have to play the notes while singing? Can I not add the midi afterwards? I’m considering buying the plug-in (I love it) but have no piano playing experience.

Thank you! It doesn't matter which order you do it, simultaneously in real time or on the tracks. As long as both the audio and MIDI is there, pre-recorded or not, it will work. There is also an AUTO-mode, but the pitch detection is not perfect. Next update will improve it alot.

This is the real talk box effect without the tube! I don't have a piano keyboard currently, but could this be used with just editing MIDI directly on a DAW along with the mic?

Yessir it can! Maybe not always as efficient but MIDI is MIDI. Sometimes I’ve recorded the MIDI first to only focus on the mic or vice versa, not being a super trained musician myself lol.

I tried messing around with this after purchasing hoping to get some decent roger troutman effects out of pre-recorded vocals, but unfortunately the presets dont work half the time or sound good, so maybe this needs to work real time with keyboard...

It doesn’t and I will probably make some for a later update but you don’t really need them, the controls are straight forward and subtle for adjusting to taste. Check out the Interface mastery video, apart from that you should lean heavily on the techniques in this video.

@@j0n.p That's more or less what you'll have to do, tweak the one preset needed :) All you need to keep track of is mono/poly, character+tone, sensitivity (which is very dependent on the mic you use and doesn't really benefit from presets), and the chorus amount. The rest is just fine tweaking, in a sense you could say the characters are the presets. But I will make some further on with more or less extreme settings.
