As a father of a 1 year old son.. and now having 10 full months sober (1st time in my life and I’m 30) I’ve decided to stay away from music I listened to in active addiction… today I confronted those demons finishing with this song. After listening to Blind Melon over the last couple of days I can honestly say Shannon Hoon and Blind Melon deserve to be talked about just as much as Nirvana, Pearl Jam and all of the other big names. They’re just as good, and in some cases more interesting to listening to. I can’t believe I kept overlooking them all of this time.

@MrMudEagle10 ай бұрын
@@Johnnywhamo When you don’t understand a generation, you make comments like yours. You had to have been there and lived it to understand.
@Johnnywhamo10 ай бұрын
@@MrMudEagle .....and when you jump to conclusions about one's age.....you make comments like yours :) Bud I was 29 in 93, I was very much there, this IS my generation. The fact of the matter is Blind Melon nowhere near met their potential nor the cultural impact when compared to any number of bands of the day. Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden never mind the obvious Nirvana were way more significant and made 10 times the cultural impact that Blind Melon ever did. The terms "underrated" and "iconic" are so misused now that it's gotten ridiculous. The point I'm making is to declare Shannon Hoon as "The most underrated iconic voice of an entire generation" is simply wildly inaccurate when you compare him to Eddie Vedder, Scott Weiland, Layne Staley, or Chris Cornell or Cobain. Those band's and those voices both literally and figuratively made way more of a significant cultural impact to our generation than Blind Melon or Hoon ever did. I would strongly suggest history backs that up. At the end of the day Blind Melon and Hoon while a great band and a solid vocalist was in no way ..the most underrated iconic voice of an entire generation. Not sure how the tone of this debate comes off so I just want you to know I'm not trying to be a dick in anyway, I always enjoy a good debate when it comes to music so, cheers bud.

My dad was in a band called Sunchild. He hung out with Shannon back when Blind Melon were starting out. He said Shannon had a little bag around his neck. My dad asked what it was and he said it was his dog tags. My dad asked why they were in a bag and not on a chain assuming he meant military tags. He pulls it out and it's his dog's name tag. The vet killed his dog and Shannon threw a brick through the office window.
