As a father of a 1 year old son.. and now having 10 full months sober (1st time in my life and I’m 30) I’ve decided to stay away from music I listened to in active addiction… today I confronted those demons finishing with this song. It’s crazy, I used to cry In the bathroom screaming this song in the shower … today it holds new weight. I love life man & I’m so blessed.. we ALL ARE. Love y’all ❤️

After listening to Blind Melon over the last couple of days I can honestly say Shannon Hoon and Blind Melon deserve to be talked about just as much as Nirvana, Pearl Jam and all of the other big names. They’re just as good, and in some cases more interesting to listening to. I can’t believe I kept overlooking them all of this time.

Nirvana and Pearl jam were not that good. The were just right place and time to give self loathing a higher standard. They also ruined flannel for everyone. Melvin's were and are much better

@Johnnywhamo 10 ай бұрын
@@MrMudEagle .....and when you jump to conclusions about one's age.....you make comments like yours :) Bud I was 29 in 93, I was very much there, this IS my generation. The fact of the matter is Blind Melon nowhere near met their potential nor the cultural impact when compared to any number of bands of the day. Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden never mind the obvious Nirvana were way more significant and made 10 times the cultural impact that Blind Melon ever did. The terms "underrated" and "iconic" are so misused now that it's gotten ridiculous. The point I'm making is to declare Shannon Hoon as "The most underrated iconic voice of an entire generation" is simply wildly inaccurate when you compare him to Eddie Vedder, Scott Weiland, Layne Staley, or Chris Cornell or Cobain. Those band's and those voices both literally and figuratively made way more of a significant cultural impact to our generation than Blind Melon or Hoon ever did. I would strongly suggest history backs that up. At the end of the day Blind Melon and Hoon while a great band and a solid vocalist was in no way ..the most underrated iconic voice of an entire generation. Not sure how the tone of this debate comes off so I just want you to know I'm not trying to be a dick in anyway, I always enjoy a good debate when it comes to music so, cheers bud.

For real, Krissy. He (and the band) was a major influence on me, from and early age. They were one of my favorites! It definitely was sad to see them go away. I saw a performance just days before Shannon passed, and you could tell he was 'lost'. So sad. Peace.

My dad was in a band called Sunchild. He hung out with Shannon back when Blind Melon were starting out. He said Shannon had a little bag around his neck. My dad asked what it was and he said it was his dog tags. My dad asked why they were in a bag and not on a chain assuming he meant military tags. He pulls it out and it's his dog's name tag. The vet killed his dog and Shannon threw a brick through the office window.

"He was a real straight up really great blues singer, almost with a country edge to it. It was a product of the Midwest in the United States, so there's that salt-of-the-earth feeling to it. But he knew how to hit that blue note, and he had that rasp in his voice, and it was a pure tone." - Rogers Stevens

I went to a N.Young, soul asylum, Blind Melon show @ Fiddlers Green to see N. Young & s. asylum. s.asylum didn't (couldn't?) show up so this crazy, barefoot hippie from the warm-up band came back out on stage and asked the crowd if we "didn't mind", they would do another set. We didn't mind, their 1st set was great. By the end of their 2nd set they, Blind Melon, were one of my favorite bands. Still are. RIP Shannon Hoon.

Been a fan for a long time and been playing this one on guitar since it first came out... great jam! I didn't ever really realize how much Shannon looks like a long haired Matt Damon and sounds kinda like a male Janis Joplin at times until this video. 😁
