In the original, Kuina's death is supposed to be sorta a cruel irony, a real and unfair tragedy She had a radiantly bright future, especially now she was being pushed by zoro, In the original, after their duel and they made the promise, she tripped and fell down the storehouse stairs when she was trying to find a whetstone, to sharpen her sword from the duel Which is even more saddening for Zoro, because their duel inadvertently and indirectly got her killed, It all goes to show that sometimes sometimes even the seemingly brightest storylines burn out before they even get a chance to be written, it may feel somewhat underwhelming, but thats sorta the point i guess The tragedy and unfairness of it all, is what leads zoro to take up her sword to fufill the promise for the both of us, he carries her sword in the mouth from which he made the promise to her, and started fighting for two people, himself and her In the original, when zoro gets in a fight with some dude on Buggy's crew, he talks about "the weight of his swords" and that he WILL win, because his opponent doesn't know this weight that he speaks of, trying to become the best and the pressure, intensity that comes with doing it for two people at once He makes it into the most INTIMATE form of a promise, zoro is a character with INCREDIBLE LOYALTY, conviction and ambition, and this event sorta catapults him into living a life with aspirations and weight that most people around him can't understand His swords cut deeper because they, "have the weight of two dreams"

Often seeing new viewers of one piece questioning why people are acting like they'll never return once they leave, like Ussop and kaya here as well as shanks in luffys flashback. The live action has a bit of a harder time selling it but this world is absolutely huge and the journey pirates embark on to sail the seas and find the one piece is both EXTREMELY dangerous and incredibly long. Funnily enough because of this though I personally feel its length is more justified than many of its long running shonen anime peers
@Hey-Its-Dingo Жыл бұрын
Not a spoiler, because the show just doesn't go into detail about it, but: In the manga, Kuina's defining trait was that she was ridiculously clumsy outside of fighting (basically, if she didn't have a sword in her hand, she was fully off-balance all the time) and the manga explicitly states that she tripped and fell down the stairs at her home and broke her neck. The tragedy of her death was that the best upcoming swordsman in their village died by such a random, unexpected accident.
@Artorigold Жыл бұрын
In Japan they say say falling down the stairs but in reality it usually means suicide. It's left open, it could have been a accident or something even darker we don't know.

Her death is obviously to give Zoro more drive and motivation to reach his dream. If what you said is true then Oda did some pretty lazy writing as to why Kuina died.
