My guy, your dismissive attitude for goblins is exactly how people get bodied by them. The "You should be able to take them" is a pretty common mindset for people who find themselves in a room getting gassed by goblins or worse, you will never be fighting less then 10 of them at once unless something has gone horribly wrong for them.

Goblin Slayer, the first episode establishes that this is a dark fantasy, goblins are true monsters, "there's no good goblin except for a dead goblin" or "there's no good goblin, except for one that never comes out of its hole" (a hole, as in it's lair/cave, or from the female's "hole", pregnant with them, lol), as there's no female goblins, only male goblins (all goblin babies are always male), in order to not go extinct, they must breed with the other species/races of females, and likely no female of another species/race gives her "consent", goblins must "R", in order to survive, continue, and not go extinct as a species/race (so, they're not evil, but only evil from the perspective of all other "non-monster" species/races, as the breeding/"R" of their females is not an acceptable existence for them, and going extinct is not an acceptable outcome for the goblins either, laughs) with the first episode, clearly establishing goblins as true monsters (as well, as the reality of the real world, outside of our "male warriors, police and military, provided bubbles of peace, within that society, and also from outside threats, that they enable", if you fail, you get killed, tortured, and/or "R'ed", that's "the law of the jungle", when such bubbles of protection and order don't exist), we understand that "goblins must be slayed", the sole existence of Goblin Slayer (both the anime/manga and the character). This is the entire premise of the story/plot, the ever-slaying of goblins, while also dealing with all of the victimizations of their dark fantasy world, lots of mental trauma and etc, with so many getting killed, tortured, and/or "R'ed", by goblins, and also by all of the other monsters as well too (and of course also likely by the non-monster races/species as well, though as far as I know, it doesn't go into that) but, with all of this masterfully established with the very first episode, the rest of the anime is much more tame (if you survived the first episode, it's "easy sailing" with the rest of the anime), and definitely worth a watch, while it's not quite at, let's say, Demon Slayer, levels, it's definitely not bad either, and it's also a bit different in its portrayal of suffering and emotional'ity from that of Demon Slayer, though the ending finale of the first season is quite epic (it makes up for the anime's a bit slower pace and a "slice-of-life" kinda feels, despite all of goblin and etc conflicts, lol), and has other good scenes too, the combat/action scenes are quite good, really good animation and fight choreography (Goblin Slayer is a beast/monster himself in terms of combat, grins) also, there's some fanservice too, laughs, which gets immediately introduced in episode 2, with Cow Girl (so "aptly... amply" named, haha, pun fully intended), and also with some other girls too (not to mention briefly with the two unfortunate girls back in episode 1, sighs), laughs the best way to describe Goblin Slayer anime/manga: as a whole, Goblin Slayer is an above average anime (manga is likely a lot better), but it has its moments of greatness and epic-ness, and is definitely worth a watch, and if you survived the very first episode, the rest of the anime (likely not the manga) is "easy sailing", it's much more "tame" than its first episode of "shock and awe/disgust", which like it or not, does masterfully establish what the entire anime/manga is all about, laughs ---------- in the "meta", Goblin Slayer anime/manga, is actually a AD&D game, played by us humans (as the "gods" of the characters within the game) in "our" real world (hence the dice), using a very dark fantasy setting for it's campaign, obviously, with all of them merely as characters within it, however, Goblin Slayer (the character) refuses to let himself be ruled over by "fate" (the dice, "us real humans" playing our dark fantasy campaign AD&D game), in other words, Goblin Slayer, is basically the same as 'The Legend of Vox Machina' anime, if you've seen it or at least heard of it, both are creations as/of a AD&D campaign being played by us real humans in our real world (the 4th wall, but doesn't really come into play within the story/plot, except very abstractly)

I really enjoy goblin slayer, I won't call it a master piece but it's either intense with the goblin scenes (as in tactical and stuff) or wholesome in between, the first episode is the darkest one on the show so it doesn't get worse than that, after all it exists to show what will happen if they fail at slaying goblins, at least try the first 3 episodes after 1 to have a general idea of the show

The first episode is the worst that it gets in terms of "that" content. It's meant to set the stage and show you the kind of world this is. It doesn't get worse than that (as far as we're shown). The show is better than you think it is, but it's not a masterpiece by any means. It's a solid 7 out of 10 I'd say. I'd recommend it if you want a D&D inspired fantasy show. A big point of the story is that people see goblins as weak and dumb creatures (like you do). So adventurers will go out thinking that these quests are easier than they are. Then, well... they end up like that first group we see. The main character isn't OP, but he's essentially this universe's version of DOOM Guy. But instead of demons, he slays goblins.
