50:08 - you are actually VERY spot-on with that lol. Kageyama's initial visual was that of Kenma. Also, Furudate (the creator of Haikyuu) actually asked their editor if they could have 2 protagonists and dedicate Nekoma as much time as Karasuno, but in the end they're glad they didn't do it.

A bit of background on the movie clips: The first three (Asahi/Noya, Kenma/Kuroo and Kageyama/Oikawa) are anime original scenes, as one would guess. The last three (Date Tech, Aoba Johsai and Shiratorizawa) are actually manga scenes. Specifically, the first 2 are bonus pages from their respective volume release and the final one is actually part of the chapter that concludes the arc vs Shiratorizawa. On that note, Furudate, the author, has admitted that they wanted to include the Seijoh one in its corresponding chapter instead of as bonus pages but because Oikawa is so popular it would take away from Karasuno and decided against it LOL On the Shiratorizawa one, I love how it gives you a different look on Ushijima. The match treats him as overly stoic, kinda dense, and very into volleyball. He's cool, but it's kind of empty too. Here we see how he actually paid attention to his team the whole time, never thought they were beneath him or neglected them just because he's so much better. Having specific advises for all of them was awesome. And having a softer look when he talks to Goshiki shows how much he trusts him. Ushijima was one hell of a captain and that's something that you dont really see much of in S3.

It was mentioned previously that Itachiyama's ace is one of the Top 5 aces, like bokuto. We're properly introduced to him later

Man,it's realy a shame that the anime condensed so much of these matches to fit into 2 episodes. Nohebi in particular is fleshed out quite a bit more in the manga version of the match.

About the S4 OVAs, each OVA adapts one full volume of the manga. Because of that, it skips A LOT of content. They even straight up omit the entirety of Taketora's arc (the Tanaka of Nekoma). The OVAs are still very much good, but if you want to see the 2 matches in more detail I recommend reading the manga for it (I know you said you'll read the whole up to S4 and then do reactions if the movies suck, but I recommend at least reading that portion in any case because of the rushed nature of it). As a little side note, the 2nd OVA was key animated by just two people. It really is impressive how good it is despite that. Production IG has so many great talents.

I feel especially bad for the OVAs skipping the scene where Kuroo stands up for Nohebi and pointing out how well they actually play when some random guys diss them. Talk about missing something important ;-;

@@TrianaNero Yeah! Hated them when I watched the OVAs but once I read it I began to appreciate them. I guess they cut it since at that point they knew the team wouldn't be relevant going forward. The arc still loses a lot without it though :(

- Kageyama wouldn't be able to play with Ushijima in youth camp since there are only 1st and 2nd years in the camp. (They mentioned that in S1 when we saw Wakatoshi for the first time in magazine.) - Youth camp doesn't take 3rd years because all of potentially good players already are going for the professional level of volleyball.) - But it's not a dream, right? Especially since both of them are volleyball idiots. c: - We know that Nishinoya went to Chidoriyama middle school (that is considered as strong), but we don't know is there Chidoriyama high school. And if so, does it even have volleyball club? This school isn't that important, so, you can let it go. - By the way, about nationals: seed teams (last 4 final team from last year nationals) like Itachiyama (who were champions) will not participate in the first round of games (like in prelims Karasuno's first opponent were Oghi Minami, who already played with someone else). - Fact: there are 47 prefectures in Japan. Among them some prefectures have 2 representatives (for example, Tokyo) because of its population. I think that Tokyo, Hokkaido, Kyoto and Osaka have 2 teams. Plus, 1 sponsor team. So, there're at least 52 teams in nationals (honestly, the number can be bigger).

Kanagawa gets an additional team, not Kyoto. Kanagawa is the prefecture Ubugawa is in (from the S2 Tokyo camp). Also, I'm fairly certain that youth camp can take 3rd years. But that's only if 3rd years are able to participate for the U18 team. Since the next U18 tournament is in 2014 it would make no sense to get the 3rd years since they would have graduated and become 18 by that point. There's a good chance Ushijima went to a U20 youth camp instead, which could have taken place at a different point than the U18 one. Also do they really say only 1st and 2nd years are able to go to the camp? I don't think they even talk at all about national team youth in S1, but if you mean S2 (assuming chapter 76?) they also never say that. They just say Ushijima is part of the U19 team, which is really different.

Hey, you were 90% right about the spots. Tokyo gets 2 due to population as you said and the 3rd spot comes from the tournament being Tokyo, the only thing you got wrong is that it isn't always in Tokyo, it actually changes each time with the host getting an extra spot. Of course, for the anime/manga they chose to have it in Tokyo. Also there are almost 50 prefectures in Japan so there are quite a lot of teams, though very few of them have more than 1 team, I believe. The math doesn't work perfectly for tournament numbers as the main objective is to have teams from every prefecture. Some teams therefore get seeded. Also I am pretty sure they mentioned at some point that Itachiyama won the last Nationals, Shiratorizawa lost in the Quarter Finals. Maybe they mention that at the start of season 4 though. Still, even though it is Karasuno's first time at Nationals in several years, by beating Shiratorizawa which is always among the title contenders, they already come in with a fairly big name to themselves, though the general feeling is still that of "oh these guys must be good since they beat Shiratorizawa, thank God we are getting them, not Shiratorizawa though"
