If I was in Rainbow Dash's place, I would do the same thing. That "supportive" stuff happened to her for her entire life. It's like being in the moment of something you've earned, and then the over-supportive family member just draws the attention away from you and to them. OMG THE FLASHBACKS! *cri* I relate with Rainbow Dash so much, I found her actions reasonable. Ugh... But I actually loved this episode and had most of the reactions you had. xD

42:23 I gotta disagree with you on that part. Rainbow Dash didn't embarrass her parents, even though they say so in that scene. What they do when they say that "this is embarrassing" and "a bit too much" is telling Rainbow Dash that they understand why she yelled at them by practically quoting her, since RD's apology performance mimics their supportive behavior in terms of exposure.

Rainbow shouldn't have snapped like that, but her parents were also disruptive, even putting others at risk with the fireworks. At best they were being poor winners. Other foals stopped wanting to be around her because of it. If Scoots is an orphan, who raised her? Whether raised by her biological parents or someone else, it seems she was neglected. I think Rainbow and Lightning were just competitors in flight club. There were a lot of foals, they may have only met at those few races and never interacted much.

I must say that your reaction to Scootaloo's slingshot and RD's Father was beyond priceless. I actually think as far as freakouts are concerned, it's one of the best i've seen from any other reactor. In my case, my reaction was much more feelsy because Scoot's fate is a touchy subject for me. Liquid pride was involved... 10/10 was also involved. Great reaction! Also, early screening first :P

+Charles 7 Scootaloo's been been shown to be able to hover for a few seconds for a long time actually (repeatedly in the first episode that addressed that she can't fly), so it doesn't really hint at anything. Plus given things like how she compared her situation to Gabby's, its been pretty well implied that Scootaloo's handicap is a permanent one. My theory is that the innate magic that allows pegasus flight simply didn't develop in the right way for her, and for one reason or another there is no magical way to fix this.

It could always be that no one knows how to fix her flight yet, and in a later episode she may gain the ability. To be honest, though, it seems like her wings won't get big enough for her to actually fly. I never thought magic had anything to do with it. They remind me of Nemo's Lucky Fin. It can't function properly because its just too small. Speaking of episodes, what's the name of the one which addresses that inability?

Scootaloo stole my heart and immediately became my no1 CMC. She is quite mature for her age and just by seeing her put Rainbow Dash back on the right path it makes me think that if she is indeed a orphan then she must have had to grow up quick from a young age whilst dealing with having potentially no Parents in her life or no support growing up and dealing with her disability and being isolated on a day to day basis. If she is a orphan then Rainbow Dash is essentially a Sister figure but both Sweetie Belle and Apple Bloom are not only her friends but to me they are more like Sisters.If Hasbro goes down this route then Scootaloo will probably move to Cloudsdale to be with Rainbow Dash's Parents since the Parents will Adopt Scootaloo and she will become one with the Family.Hasbro really needs to tackle the topic of Adoption in MLP and they should do a lot of research and by joining forces with Adoption charities to provide a compelling story/episode that is both memorable and influential and it must leave a long lasting impression on people for the years to come. But one thing is for certain is I would be extremely happy for Scootaloo if in one episode she finally starts flying..

I really enjoyed the episode overall. I think my only real problem with it was, well, it was another one of those episodes we occasionally get where the writer seems to blatantly take one side of a conflict between characters despite the fact that both parties made mistakes. It was definitely wrong for Rainbow to yell at her parents the way she did, and I'm glad that they had her realize she went too far, but they basically just hand-waved the fact that their behavior was actually causing genuine problems by going as over the top as they did. Even if we ignore the implications that they may have made it hard for her to make friends (the episode clearly shows all of the other kids her age looking at her in annoyance and walking off after one of their little cheering sessions), even the stuff in the present could have actually caused legit harm. They were cheering so loudly that they literally caused turbulence during the Wonderbolts' training exercise. They launched fireworks during a Wonderbolts show (even if the routine was over, they were still in the air - they even had to dodge the first one). They were so disruptive and distracting that Rainbow lost focus and cut Spitfire's tail off. That goes way beyond just embarrassing your kid. That's dangerous, and even if it wasn't dangerous, it's something that could get Rainbow in trouble with her boss. It's not as though it ruins the episode or anything, but it would've been nice if they'd at least acknowledged that their extreme behavior was a bit inappropriate as well. The closest we got was them being a bit embarrassed by RD's apology, and even that doesn't really tell us that they realized it.

I hear what you're saying, and I agree that they should've been more regretful about their actions, but I'm afraid there's only so much time in these episodes. Still, regardless of what they were doing, Rainbow Dash should not have disrespected them the way she did. Definitely fault on both sides here.

Wow this was one of the main times we've seen rainbow dash this angry and in a heated conflict. This is a new side of rainbow dash even for scootaloo. I'm just wondering what other things like this have happend in rainbow dashs secretive past, because the way she acted towards her parents didn't seem out of the ordinary like it's happend before. I'm not sure but I'd like to know more about her past, I feel we've only seen the main surface of her past not the negative times or the roots so to speak I think there's more to her than what we just see on the surface. I'm interested because me and rd are the same my parents are super supportive and sometimes embarrassing we used to argue and make up afterwards but i know after watching this that my parents were actually the reason I was so confident in the first place. Rainbowdashs relationship with her parents is how I used to view mine, everything about this scenario especially the family photo is all the same in my life. I don't know but I feel there's more to explore on this as a character or past, I know there was when I was in her position.

Hello! Let me start by saying that you provide a very thorough analysis of the episodes after the fact and an enjoyable reaction to watch during the fact. I actually have been watching your reactions ever since the iconic "Crusaders of the Lost Mark". Now, with that said, I am honestly disappointed at TREEHOUSE for airing episodes earlier than when they should be aired. They probably have their reasons which involve money and all that junk, but in the end, it screws us over! To me, part of watching this show is just having something to look forward to each week when a new episode is aired. Because of Treehouse, now I feel compelled to watch episodes in advance just to avoid spoilers by people talking about it or reacting about. I wouldn't want to avoid KZbin or other sites altogether just to prevent them. Obviously, people who make these videos, such as yourself, also feel compelled to the same to stay current and upload their content about the same time other folks do. I do not blame you one bit for this. However... With what has been going on with Treehouse, there could at least be one form of compromise reached by reactors. I suggest, for the time the episode has not aired in the U.S., to at least blackout any captions (screenshots) of the episode until the episode airs in the U.S. It just takes uploading a new image in place of it when it does. That way, for those of us who like to wait, can avoid getting spoiled by images that, more often than not, reveal something important about the episode. It's a small thing, but an image can say a whole lot about something. Thanks for your great reactions though! I hope you don't take this the wrong way, I was just trying to give you a suggestion.

XDIeAndGoX I understand your reasoning on the thumbnails, to a point, but honestly, by the time I actually post my reactions, KZbin is already flooded with videos with spoiler thumbnails on them. Given this fact, I'm having a hard time understanding why I'm being singled out on this. I fully empathize with wanting to stay spoiler free, but it's one thing to try and avoid spoilers for episodes that haven't aired yet, and another altogether to avoid ones that have aired. Yes, Treehouse is screwing us over, but again, after these episodes have aired, my videos will hardly be the only ones with thumbnails that reveal things. Sure I can post different thumbnails and change them later, it just bugs me that blind reactors are now being taken to task for revealing spoilers after all we go through to stay spoiler free, especially when it's at a point where it shouldn't matter. At the rate this is going, it is going to be literally months before I can change some of the thumbnails around. But, I guess if that's what I have to do to avoid ticking people off and losing subscribers, then that's what I have to do.

After this episode, we could all just assume Scootaloo is an orphan like we've thought for the past few years. But the other possibility is that Scootaloo does have parents, but they are just never around. Lauren Faust did originally plan for Scootaloo to have parents, but their jobs would keep them too busy to spend any time with her. If they were to go with either option, I personally think they will go with the latter. It would be too depressing if they went with the first option.

I for one think it's a far better plot for Scootaloo to be an orphan, so that all this admiration and character development with Rainbow Dash can lead up to something beautiful. Just saying 'she has parents, she just never has them put on screen, or mentioned as far as the plot is ever concerned''? That's lazy. Maybe it was a good idea to take that approach in Lauren's day of S1 and 2 when these characters were all still new, but we're in S7 now, after having had multiple episodes focusing on Scootaloo's relationship with Dash. The fact is the plot has been building in the direction of Dash taking the guidance role for Scootaloo, not her parents. Suddenly introducing them would feel forced, and might undermine some of the great emotional connection Scootaloo has built with Dash. Orphans are a part of life. You can't stop that, and yes, it is sad. But as Sleepless in Ponyville and this episode show, it doesn't have to end sadly for them. That's what's beautiful about the concept of orphan Scootaloo - she's not alone anymore, anyway. She has had Dash since S3, and now it looks like she may have Dash's parents as well.

I think Rainbow Dash is valid in her outburst in the locker room because her parents were interuppting basically Equestria's equivalent to the Military as well as ruining the experience of another small filly who just wanted her autograph. I really love this episode!! As if the callbacks here weren't enough, at long last; Rainbow's parents are officially revealed! All the while, I had the biggest grin on my face, it showed how much I enjoyed this episode. Also, the feels were strong here as well. Scootaloo mentioning that she doesn't have anypony to be supportive towards her and that last scene when the Rainbow family was fantastic. The thing about Scootaloo possibly being an orphan(or not) being confirmed may be just as painful as not knowing any background info on AJ's parents(something I'm eager to find out about)! Now Bow Hothoof and Windy Whistles are great characters, probably my favorite parents in this series. They are very enthusiastic and upbeat in their personalities and I love them for that. So far, "Parental Glidance" is my favorite episode of S7 with "A Flurry of Emotions" coming in 2nd place.

From the way I see in Rainbow Dash's flashbacks. Those other familiar competitors likely serve as stand-ins since RD can probably never remember whom she really competed against those years ago. Therefore, it's not possible for RD to have competed against Lightning Dust, Soarin, or even Spitfire at all when they were very young since they just met in the present time.

Well that puts a lot of understanding on Rainbow. Like back in Mare-do-Well when she expected to be praised about opening a jar even when she didn't REALLY have that much to do with it -- her parents WOULD still have gone to the top with cheers about it. And um? Talk to them? I don't think that would work. They'd just go with "good job talking" or "oh how modest you are" -- and completely miss the point. Also... I think demonstrating her napping ability was intentional. You know, to show that not everything she gets praised for is actually worth it. Other than that... how do you think her parents would react if someone were to even slightly criticize their daughter? Someone like her school teachers (because RD takes naps). Maybe "expelled" turned into "early graduation" due to their LOUD influence in protest about the school favoring "egg-heads" and dissing "fliers". Imagine them present at any RD-episode... how would it change things?

Do we know if Rainbow is still head of the weather over Ponyville as well as being a 'bolt? Because if she still is any questions about "work" she could easily just talk about two of her three jobs. One is talking about the weather and the other is saving the world. I think she could get away with that for quite some time. I do wonder if the Shys and Rainbows parents talk at all. Would make things harder... then again I'm not sure if Zepher would be alive... Is it just me or did like look like Rainbow, Derpy and Lightning were racing against ALL the current Bolts? AND WINNING? Hell it looks like that last race goes Rainbow, Lighting and then Spitfire! How?! I know Rainbow said she was young and Lighting is about the same age so just a hair older, so wow. Lighting must have been the other one of those that made Rainbow say "most". No wonder Spitfire had her eye on them. Though now I'm really wondering just what made Derpy go to the hospital back then, as that first race flashback, Derpy was first with Lightning as second and Spitfire as third. Next race, Derpy's eyes are just a smidge out of alignment and Lighting is on top... Just how long as Lightning been reckless? Wouldn't that make one heck of a episode? If Rainbow and whomever have to get Lighting and Derpy to patch things up when Lightning is WHY her eyes are the way they are?

I like how you freak out about things :3 BTW I don't think Scootaloo should fly! She's great with that scooter and should embrace that talent. There are people that paint with their toes because they have no hands. If Scootaloo really wants to fly she would find a way maybe she'll be the first ponny to invent an air plain. Which would be a way for earth ponies and unicorns to experience flying. I think that would be more admirable than just getting the ability to fly because magic! BTW there are things that magic cannot do like making a cutie mark apear before its time. Probably is the same for disability like that.

Obviously that doesn't rule out the possibility of her losing her parents, but remember, she has a roof over her head in "Flight to the Finish", so she's clearly provided for; just not as often as she'd like or should be.

As you said, she might not have been as firm before to avoid hurting them, but his refusal or incapable of toning it down could have been catalyst for Dash cutting them off of the information train.

Well, we see she has a room in "Flight to the Finish", so clearly _someone_ is providing for her. But as this episode shows, it's not a whole lot. Whatever parents she may have (biological, adoptive, married or single), they're either neglectful or too preoccupied. The orphan theory isn't impossible, but I find find less evidence stacked up in favor of it than anything.

Fluttershy was bullied by other pegasi for being a weak flyer, so a pegasus like Scootaloo who can't fly at all, would be an easy target for bullies at the orphanage. But that's just a theory. I feel like the people who aren’t on Dash’s side, have never had parents like her’s, or they are just not seeing the big picture. Overpraising is a serious issue. Parents who OVERpraise, not praise, but go over the top with it (RD’s parents setting off fireworks-), often create narcissistic, unprepared, and extremely competitive children. By saying, “you’re amazing!” “you’re perfect” (greatest towel hanger of all time?? Haha), you are making the child feel as if they don’t have to do anything to be great, because you keep praising them for insignificant things. So because of this narcissism, they put aside motivation for things like good grades, etc. and it creates attention-seeking kids, that only try at things in order to get praised. It also makes children unprepared when they are facing problems they cannot solve. When they FINALLY doubt their own skills, it sends them into a spiral. They face an identity crisis, realizing that they really aren’t the shit. (Before the rainboom was performed in the contest). And RD? Self-absorbed, unprepared when facing doubt, and very competitive. Hm.

I've participated in contests when I was younger. I don't remember anyone I was competing against and even forgot one of my teemates, if I met her again I'd sware she was a total stranger.
