Another great video. I feel fortunate to have a baby Gwen. Not many nurseries seem to sell it. We had 78 Hass from our 4 year old tree, but they began to fall mid July and had turned black on the tree, so our hass season here in Lakeside is from February to July. About 6 months.

Thank you Frank for watching! Every time I think I am done buying avocado trees, I want another one. I really want a Sharwil and a Gwen but they are both hard to find. You are lucky since I know you have both. Wow, 78 avocados on your Hass tree during a 6 month period is great. Hopefully you had time to enjoy a lot of them before they turned bad. Thanks for your comment!

Thanks for the nice video. I planted my first Qwen this spring. We live in the Santa Cruz Mountains on Adams Ridge at an elevation of 2100 feet.

Is Hass avocado worth it for plantation in the backyard since the fruit is so small compared to other avocados?
@johnnysworld-backyardorchard3 жыл бұрын
Hello, I think it is definitely worth it since Hass tastes really good. Some of the downside is Hass is alternate bearing and the fruit is small, but tastes really good though. Thank you for watching!

Since I am a big guy, I can eat a lot, and I like to eat a lot of avocado when I eat, the Reed is perfect for me. My wife and daughter eat small portions, so the Hass is perfect for them. When they slice into the larger avocados, like the Reed, I find half an avocado spoiling on the counter or in the refrigerator. They both enjoy having avocado toast, and my daughter is a guacamole fiend! So plant something!

I definitely prefer Gwen and Hass over Reed. Hard to beat the thick creamy texture and rich flavor of Gwen.

@Johnny Avocado: I hope Audie Avocado is getting royalties for her appearances in your videos! Personally I sprinkle a little truffle salt on my avocados for enhanced flavor.

I do that with table salt and freshly ground , mixed peppercornes. Taste much better than plain ones.

Taste is an individual thing. As with wine and mangos, each person's likes and dislikes are independent.

The sample she gave him of the Reed was not from the center like the others.

Hi Patrick: I didn't even notice that, thanks for catching that. That may have very well affected the taste of the Reed. Thanks for your comment and thank you for watching!

Save your money and yard space. Do Not plant Reed. I'm cutting down my Reed tree. I paid $70 for a small grafted branch. Now it's a small tree. It gave me fruits the 1st year I planted it. This year is the 2nd year. Both years, the fruits tasted watery. Because the water content is so high, there's no flavor. Instead, plant Fuerte. Fuertes are extremely creamy like butter and nutty flavor.
@johnnysworld-backyardorchard3 жыл бұрын
Hi Logan: sorry your experience with the Reed was not great, wondering if the Reed you ate was fully ripe? I really like the Reed but I am a big fan of the Fuerte as well. The only thing I don't like about the Fuerte is the size of the tree, but I have heard great things about the taste of the Fuerte and many say that is their favorite avocado to eat. Thank you for your comment and thank you for watching!

Actually, some in my family agree with you too and they like the Reed. Hopefully my Reed Avo Tree will produce some great avos this year and I can do another taste test on some home grown Reed avos. Thanks for your comment and thank you for watching!
