Sorry guys. I saw BW yesterday afternoon and...."meh". It was okay I guess. I'm not sure what I was expecting but this wasn't the origin story I wanted. It honestly felt like a watered down version of 'Captain America: Winter Soldier'. The crashing airship/ helicarrier, the "I don't want to fight you" line didn't do it for me. And how the hell did that guy get all that stuff !? He just happened to have a Quinn jet lying around !? Nobody missed that jet? Nobody saw him flying it? I would have rather they used that guy from the Agents of SHIELD tv show. You know, the twins that watched over the saferooms. While it didn't bother me that Taskmaster was female, it DID bother me that Taskmaster and Secretary Ross were barely in the movie. Also, also, also I really like the RED GUARDIAN. I know he was just comic relief, but the few scenes he was in were great. Just my two ¢....

This movie really reminded me of an 80s Cold War Action Movie but updated. My big takeaway was being sold on Yelena possibly taking up the Black Widow mantle. Again she doesn't show cunning or intellect because Dreykov was in charge of her and he just wants her to get the job done. To act like this means she can't become the Taskmaster is just throwing a hissy fit because Marvel changed a character's origin story and they aren't exactly how you want them in their very first movie. This movie was about as good as you could expect for something made five years too late. Part of me can't forgive that mistake by Disney/Marvel as the Black Widow character deserved better in Endgame. They had a scene with Cap and Tony where they discussion was 'Did she have family? -- 'We were her family'. Can you imagine if they put the post credit scene from this show as a post credit in Endgame only with her 3 family members from this show instead of Julia Louis-Dreyfus. None of them would have had to say a word at the grave. It would have wrecked me in a good way. I hope/wish they filmed that which would allow this movie to be properly rewatched before the start of Infinity War and make Endgame even better. As it is, the current post credit scene is a spoiler so this show can't be watched where it should be in the series.

@@captainpep3 I don’t think that’s a problem if there are multiple taskmasters. They can be independent characters. A simple method to do this would be to establish the character BEFORE he gets the taskmaster business done to him. Go farther by having the two Taskmasters face each other in another MCU mirror fight but this time they can each mix and match different avenger fighting styles while trying to counter each other. Two different stories, hers is to atone or to define herself after her manipulation while his would be revenge or whatever really. Go wild on his motivations since the fundamental difference between the two would be she was forced to do it while he choose to be that way. There’s meat there. I was actually hoping for a fight in the movie that he Nat adopting different avenger styles, something different to try to counter Taskmaster in this one but… didn’t get it. But still, a mirror fight with mixing Avenger fighting styles sounds pretty great to me. You can make a movie out of that.

I mean, even someone like Darcy knew who Pietro was despite being a very background character in Ultron who never even appeared officially as an Avenger. This scene just doesn't make sense. Even in this film Natasha constantly keeps talking about how Clint is to Yelena. One would think that any Avenger would have contacted Nat's family considering Yelena knows where the grave is so they must have talked at some point. The movie definitely did a good job showcasing Pugh/Yelena to be a part of the future of the MCU. She's a legit movie star and they gave her that MCU dry-humor with a lot of quips while legitimately kicking ass. She was great. I really enjoyed the movie overall. Parts of the third act bothered me a bit, like with the pheromones, and it's obviously VERY fantastical that non-super soldiers like Nat (and Yelena) can go through what they did with JUST a broken nose, lol. There is a good reason why you can't tell whether Taskmaster is male or female from the suit: apparently those are actually the stunt doubles for the other characters in it, which is why they are able to mimic the other characters so perfectly e.g. the Winter Soldier's knife flips are done by Sebastian Stan's double and T'Challa's moves are done by Chadwick Boseman's. So they needed a suit that could hide the fact that there are different people in it. Also, if Bucky has to 'make amends' for all the people he killed while he was brainwashed and had zero choice in the matter, then Clint had better have some consequences for the ones he killed of his own free will. Otherwise, it'll be like Tony getting away with destroying an entire country whilst Wanda was persecuted for accidentally destroying one corner of a single building all over again.

Yeah, plus third act is pretty hard tonal whiplash. First two acts are really dark, like Russo levels. But third act felt like Mission Impossible, but with worse villains and them shitting all over Taskmaster… I’m not gonna be over that for a long time, he was favorite as a kid.

It felt to me that they made Taskmaster's story and character less interesting, it's pretty much the same story that all the other widow's have, you just add that she was enhanced. Her story is still sad, but not that unique, she could be just a special widow. Only her "powers" are similar to the character of Taskmaster.

I hope they bring her back in like a Thunderbolts show or movie and they can give her more personality. Been 7 or 8 years between when this movie takes place and endgame. Plenty of time to become the badass enterprising merc we all know Tasky to be. Maybe she’ll show up in Deadpool 3.

They can still fix Taskmaster by doing him again, properly. And they really need to, he’d be one of the best MCU villains, and could definitely be a reoccurring one, which we need more of. I want my old Taskmaster dammit. He was in my Spider-Man cartoons and he was the coolest!

Taskmaster isn't a puppet and neither is he a woman. Having TM be a female is part of the story because it's a feminist agenda. It's written that way. It only made money because it's apart of Marvel. If Kevin Feige keeps being a simp and keeps allowing this BS, Marvel will end up a complete disappointment in the long run.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVEEEED THIS MOVIE!! I thought the pacing was perfect! The dramatic and dialogue heavy scenes didn’t feel drawn out but added some variation to the movie. I thought Scarlet Johansson shined but allowed her successor to shine enough to get everyone on board with her going forward. The action and fight scenes were absolutely incredible!! The face swap twist at the end really surprised me and I didn’t mind the Taskmaster twist. I am extremely excited to see Yelena again!!!

Everything that had to do with characters (personalities, interactions, etc) I loved. The action and fights were a bit underwhelming for a BW movie, mostly when there are giant explosions involved but I enjoyed it all. A really good movie overall and one of the more serious on the MCU. Taskmaster is clearly not the same character as in comics so I expect some people to be blindly mad at that. Cant wait to watch more Yelena, she had so much personality

Yeah I enjoyed the parts of the movie relating to Natasha's family dynamic a lot, but everything else fell really flat for me. The action was weirdly paced and had some REALLY awkward cuts and strange writing decisions, and overall the movie just felt very disjointed, with Natasha just kinda getting dragged along from plot point to plot point by a long series of coincidences. The villains were both pretty lame too, which is a damn shame especially for Taskmaster. Overall, coulda been a lot better if it was more focused and more tightly written. Probably still an enjoyable day at the movies (shit, watching paint dry would be an enjoyable day at the movies after the fucking year and a half that we've had) but overall I found this to be a pretty forgettable addition to the MCU.

Film wasn't bad nor good. It was just meh. The main problem as I saw it is that it didn't know whose story it wanted to tell. At times it was Natasha's story and at times Yelena's. But it never felt (to me) like there was a proper main narrative that the film sold well enough to make me invested. The other flaw is that we never spend enough time with the villain to establish the threat - how big and how imminent is it? There's a huge missing driving plot and urgency in the first and second act (and even in the third act it comes too late to feel truly urgent or critical) so it feels like the story meanders from one place to the next and never kicks into high gear. The physics and power levels also seem all over the place, fluctuating between Winter Soldier and Iron Man levels of realism - so the action feels untethered and you don't get a good sense of the danger in any given fight scene. And yes, her story comes far too late in the MCU to mean anything much to the continuity. Definitely a middle of the pack MCU film and like the other chronological prequels (Captain Marvel, Ant-Man and The Wasp) this does not drive the MCU continuity forward in any big way so becomes a forgettable filler.
