I am on board with the theory that Rio is the marvel character Death. 1. Thats why she appeared out of a grave. 2. Thats why she was "in the neighborhood" after Mrs Hart died. 3. That why she said the spell dragged her up or down, because she was above taking someone to heaven or below taking them to hell. 4. Thats why she would take the bodies if Agatha killed them. 5. Thats why when Teen was dying Agatha looked at Rio and pleaded no. 6. That the "job" she had to do that hurt the woman she loved, taking her son. 7. Thats how she knows Teen isnt Agatha's son, cause she knows her son is dead.

The idea that curses are physical, invisible demons literally holding you back and hurting you, rather than just this "mystical bad luck", is really cool. I don't think I've ever seen that interpretation. Similarly, the idea that a spell is, for the most part, an incantation aligned with intention, and that Lorna was able to change the incantation of the Ballad to turn it into a protection spell whenever *anyone* sang it? The writers are super creative with how they explain magic in this, and I love it!

I kinda love how they use witchcraft practices irl, with the intent, the elements, the bell to signal calling in something, the triple goddess, the nicknames for the different herbs and ingredients, plus the usage of magick as ritualized practice, and the circle casting for protection against harmful things.

Alice is by far my favorite new witch so far. Her role as the protector is unique and remember she was the one the drag ms.heart/Sharon while everyone else left. Her backstory with her mother and that generational curse passed down in women(a not sutle allegory for the pressures you can go through with your family, especially in Asian families). Just all works so perfectly together.

I think it suggests that the curse/demon was sitting on her shoulders before they played that curse/invocation, and then it started preying on its new victims. It is also interesting that it might have summoned a different demon for the trial, but on one hand, it was playing Lorna's ballad backwards and on the other we had just learned that magic takes the path of least resistance. So of course it summoned that same demon/curse that was already in the room.

Yes it was a Generational curse that went on all the women in the family interestingly enough the Demon was also a woman, but it hopped from Lornas mom to lorna and then lorna to Alice after the curse kills the person, the curse was physically siting on her shoulders so years but couldn't do anything because her moms version of the ballad was a protection spell that kept her safe

I’d like to point out that the Curse burned/attacked everyone but Rio. Who was also lounging on the couch reading a newspaper without a care in the world, as if she knew it wouldn’t/couldn’t burn/attacked her which adds to the already developing theory that she’s more than meets the eye. Even at the end as she states that Teen isn’t Agatha’s: she cemented that fact because she might’ve been the one to either kill or take her son away

I love how this show feels like a DnD campaign. We have different characters who need to party up to go into a spooky dungeon. On their parth they have to use their specific skills to overcome trials and obstacles while being confronted about their past. During long rests they have time to bond and talk about their backstories. Mrs. Davis/Heart was an NPC they dragged along because Rio's player couldn't join for that first session. Agatha might be a bit of a problem player because "That's what my character would do" but the DM was smart to make them invested with the secret of who the teen really is.

What do we know?: 1) Rio loved (based on knowing glances) Agatha. 2) She did something she didn't want to do. But had to because it was her *job* 3) Agatha has *hated* her ever since. 4) She claims to *know* that teen is not Agatha's son. My take on all of this is that whatever bargain Agatha made on the road to get the darkhold. Agatha didn't realize her son was the price. And Rio was the one that was forced to collect.

This episode was FULL of clues about who Rio may be and her role in the sacrifice of Agatha's son, which is why she knows Teen is NOT her son. This episode heavily implied that Rio is some sort of reaper or death figure and was the one responsible for "taking/collecting" the life of Agatha's son when she sacrificed him for the Darkhold. In the 1st episode, Rio tells Agatha she (Agatha) can't kill her. Agatha tells Rio she (Rio) can't kill HER, specifically. Then Agatha says she can't absorb Rio's powers because it would KILL her. But why? We've seen Agatha easily absorb/drain every ounce of power from an ENTIRE coven of witches as well as THE Scarlet Witch, with no problems. So what's different about Rio? Well, she says she's not A green witch, she's THE green witch. Green witches are earth-based; not the planet, but the ground/dirt (thus Mrs. Hart's "green thumb" being useful). Where do most living beings go when they die? Back to the earth/ground. It would make total sense that Death would be THE green witch. When Agatha's new coven arrives at the house in this episode, Agatha sternly tells an eager Rio, "No," which seems innocuous until you combine it with what she says later. In the recording studio, Rio tells Agatha she's feeling like she wants to do some damage and Agatha tells her she's, "too early." 🤔 After that, Rio says she gets to watch Agatha do what she does best: kill all the witches around her so, "You get your power and I get MY bodies." Rio is looking for more bodies to collect, because it's her JOB, as she later alludes to. After the trial, as Teen is potentially dying, Agatha looks at Rio and pointedly, DESPERATELY says, "Don't" (as in, please don't take him). Later when they're talking about scars, Rio says she had to do something a long time ago that she did NOT want to do but she HAD TO because it was her JOB, and her action(s) hurt the person she loved (as her eyes look to Agatha 👀). All of those clues make me think Rio is an agent of Death or Lady Death herself and when Agatha sacrificed her son for the Darkhold (possibly on The Road), Rio was the one who showed up to take/collect Nicky's life, forever scarring her relationship with Agatha. It's bad enough that Agatha sacrificed her child for the Darkhold, but for this other person she loved to be the one to take/collect his life is a whole other level of messed up. Finally, to answer Aaron's question, if Rio WAS the one who took/collected Nicky's life when Agatha sacrificed him, it makes complete sense that she would KNOW that Teen is not Nicky because she knows it's impossible. She sees how much, and how quickly, Agatha has grown to care for Teen and realizes (as the audience does) that Agatha seems to think he could somehow be her son. So Rio, in an attempt to save Agatha from grieving the loss of her son all over again, interrupts what could have been a beautiful, intimate moment of potential healing between them and tells her, "That boy isn't yours."

My comment will be about Lilia today. Pretty sure her vampire fight involved her being attacked, her punching it and breaking its tooth, her being bitten with the remaining tooth, Lilia hitting the vamp again and popping THAT tooth out as well. Also... what if Lilia's hyper-focus on how witches are stereotyped in society is because SHE used to be a cliche "Wicked Witch". What if she was once all those things she decries, but she changed and now hates what she did. If that's close I'm expecting that to be the twist we DON'T expect. Maybe "I love you guys" is her last words as she finds redemption by sacrificng herself to save the coven?

Based on what we know and New Rockstar theories it seems that Rio was somehow involved in the sacrifice and exchange of Agatha's son for the Darkhold. It would make sense because we had Rio say she loved someone (Agatha) and she did something she didn't want to do, that hurt the person she loved, but is was her job (sacrifice of Agatha's son). This makes sense in general for whoever Rio may be or do but also, if you've seen the leak, it makes even more sense.

I just wanted to add this little information on the marvel vampire in the cinematic universe In werewolf by night there was an actual depiction of a vampire, it might have been dead and stuffed on a wall but they have been cinematic confirmed since 2022

That last theory for the poll would be awesome if it turned out to be true too: Agatha putting the sigil on her son and doing a switcheroo, sacrificing another baby in his place and that she cannot/shouldn't remember her son or the Darkhold powers would come for him.

The reason why Rio felt that she had to tell Agatha that he isn't her is because the hope that Teen is his is what gave Agatha the push towards forgiveness when it comes to Rio, but since Rio genuinely loves her she doesn't want Agathas love under terms that Teen is her son. She wants Agatha to want her back and forgive her genuinely just because she wants her, not because she's grateful that Teen is hers (when he is not). She tries to spare Agatha from pain of realising it later on by herself.

I am so pissed that I got leaked spoilers for this show, but being able to watch it with those eyes open is revolutionary. Some of these guys are asking the right questions, but someone has to always sweep in with an easier answer! So, I’m pissed, but at least it’s given me a cool new POV.

I think what was fascinating about this episode was its the second longest story but also felt like the shortest which i think is impressive and it was a great story but it really flew by

You guys didn't pick up on the fact that when teen was injured and the lilia says he's strong. Agatha says don't, and then faces Audrey Plaza's character and says don't, as in don't take him. And the scen when Audrey character and agatha were talking in that booth, she says something along the lines as you get your power and I get my bodies. Hinting more to the fact she is lady death

I've avoided most of the spoilers and discussions about this show online (except for the one about Teen's possible true identity, sadly), but i'm pretty sure that i think i know who Rio really is and this episode more or less confirmed it. And that's interesting, wonder where they go with it, if i'm right. And that would also explain why she for sure knows who Teen isn't. And Aubrei Plaza does these sorta crazy characters so well, it's ridiculous. 19:05 The after-credit scene of Eternals featured Blade's voice, done by Mahershala Ali, that has been already confirmed. Plus, a dead Vampire's head has been mounted on the wall of Bloodstone Manor in "Werewolf by Night". And Vampires have been mentioned a couple of times, in "Loki" for example, though in that, Morbius said the TVA actually pruned vampires from the sacred timeline.

I mean you gotta think about what the witches in MCU are like. If Wanda is "The Scarlet Witch", and Rio is "The Green Witch" there's probably something along those lines. I don't know yet but that's my idea so far

I really liked Werewolf By Night but I do hope that this series is a big part of the template that is the Horror side of the MCU. Like give us camp, give us terror, give us practical effects(The show runners has said this series is probably Marvels least expensive as a result of their reliance on practical effects even) and honestly always have a witch actor on standby clearly cuz they are all fantastic. The ones that survive at least should be on speed dial
