I love how this season makes a point of turning the usual idea of "Government deals with Alien first contact" on its head. There's no brave leaders, no inspiring head of state to stand up and say some badass lines about the unity of mankind or whatever. Instead the whole thing is shadowy, paranoid politics. As soon as the Prime Minister is told what's going on, he basically gives Frobisher (who's just some random bureaucrat that nobody elected or even really knows) total operational control, and not-very-subtly tells him "Do whatever you have to and kill whoever needs to be killed, just don't tell me the details so I don't have to go to jail". Instead of the elected leaders stepping up and taking charge, they pass it off to the "cockroaches of government", as Dekker called them, and do whatever they can to distance themselves and preserve their reputation, leaving the fate of the World in the hands of completely random Civil Service workers who basically just happened to be there. It's kind of terrifying, because I could honestly see things playing out exactly like this, even though we'd all much rather imagine an "Independence Day" style scenario.

Oh, this is absolutely the realistic scenario if aliens invaded the world. This is how politicians and power works. The people in power seek to preserve their power however they can. Power seeks to preserve itself. And a huge part of that is not knowing what's going on and passing off the real problems to nameless bureaucrats so that they can't mess up and take the blame and be elected out.

Considering how he became like this,I'm pretty sure Jack's regeneration power isn't based on biology, but on wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff. Like time slowly reverses damaged tissue back to the original form even if cells or atoms were destroyed or something.

The way Ianto and Gwen rescued Jack with the help of family and friends was awesome! I really liked the build up of it all. Aaron liking Lois is a good sign. I hope they all grow to like Lois by the next episodes. Frobisher’s kids speaking unison was also funny, the way they were mocking the situation was really cheeky😄 From here on out, things are gonna get even more tense and less humorous!

Oh you are right. I never thought of it but "Bad Wolf" was basically the heart of the TARDIS and the TARDIS sees every instant in time all at once. It doesn't even distinguish an order to time it just sees it all at once so when Rose brought him back she was seeing every possible death he had and couldn't distinguish one from the other.

​@@davidm_511 Nothing's been confirmed about AOS. Altho Season 7 does take place in a bunch of alternate timelines but they go back to the main one via Quantum Realm at the end. In fact, I remember a time when Torchwood Miracle Day was thought to be in an alternate timeline from the rest of Doctor Who following the reboot of the universe in Series 5. Like with AOS, it was never confirmed and they kept referencing back to Doctor Who on occasions.

Great episode and reactions. Ianto's brother-in-law is hands-down one of my favourite characters and it was nice moment how everyone came together to rescue Jack. Get ready though. There's a shortage of rainbows and lollipops ahead.

Colleges and Sixth Forms in the UK allow non-uniforms but from primary till secondary (high school) uniforms are usually mandatory. Certain hair colours, styles and even make-up are all banned varying from school to school. Some areas are more lenient than others.

I always figured the only way to stop Jack would be to chuck him into a star. He'd be broken down into atoms. Even if Jack can come back from a single atom of his being he'd still be trapped within the enormous gravity of the star without advanced technology to enable him to escape. He'd get out eventually of course, either when one of his atoms was ejected with the solar winds and he'd regenerate in the vacuum of space or when the star itself actually dies, at which point he regenerates in the stellar remnants. Either way you could potentially take Jack off the board for a long long time.

Interesting, however i've thought of a easier and less primitive(unlike chucking him at some celestial body, side note could "Him" or his particle escape a black hole and how) what if we were to instead encase him in molten metal, and guard that. Sort of and advanced version of the concrete. that way it needs more than a cliff to be broken. Those construction trucks have a top speed of like 30 mph, so you have it at a site 30 miles away from everything...... surely you can get out of whatever situation jack's friends cause within an hour then you race to get the cube back

Well I considered a black hole since theoretically once he crosses the event horizon he's out of your hair alive or dead but they're harder to find and throw someone into. We have a star, and we could throw someone into it in the real world if we really wanted to. It would be very expensive but I think it would ultimately be more practical in the long term than trying to move a multi ton hunk of metal on a hours notice. Though I suppose you could always throw it into the deep ocean somewhere. Next best thing to space really and all it costs is a boat ride. Finding a roughly human or even house sized block of metal that isn't emitting any signals under two miles of water would probably be harder and more expensive than throwing it into the sun especially if you didn't have a good starting point.

i'm smart, but only average-ly smart..... i missed a few things when i thought of the black hole theory. assuming we could get him to one, there is a chance that "he" (his particle) could leak out through hawking radiation, it would kinda depend on how hawking radiation works(but then again we are comparing this to something that is beyond our dimensions, the power of a tardis core), also if the black hole dies/starves due to hawking radiation then jack could regenerate, HOWEVER that is a very long time, i think a bit longer than our sun's death

There's an idea. Why look for solutions in our understanding of the universe when the Time Lords have done the work for us? Chuck him back in the TARDIS core. I know about as much as would happen to him there as I do a black hole but given how he was created I'd place my bets on the core. That or you end up with Super Jack being immortal in all times and places simultaneously. Jack would find ways to enjoy that.

In the UK we have secondary school for 11/12 year olds to 16 years old. Im sure every school has a uniform, some might not, probably boarding school might not. Since the kids live in the school during the school term. Anyway as you have picked up on series three is different and yeah be ready. Thats it, no spoilers. It will all begin to come together in the next two episodes.

The alien threat in this are great. With a few tweaks to make them a bit less dark (not too much tweaking though), I think they could have worked in Doctor Who along side Capaldi.

Just so you know... He'd still survive. Almost like Hulk. From different parts Bad Wolf would choose one and grow from it. If disintegrate... He'd be brought back even from a molecule. When you exposed to an enormous amount of radiation it breaks you down into those molecules, it destroys your body completely. That what Jack has been through before already. In DW. They did make it clear that no matter what he WILL be back.

I don't think he CAN disintegrate. Remember in Utopia with the radiation chamber, the last guy who went in there got completely obliterated. All his flesh and bones, completely gone. Jack walks in and nothing happens, it didn't even kill him. I think if it's something so severe that it would destroy him that utterly, the Bad Wolf thing simply stops it outright.

I think if he did disintegrate the laws of physics would just contrive for the individual particles to recombine in precisely the way required to reform Jack. In a sense, the particles from that particular death have _already_ recombined because the recombined, living Jack is a fixed space-time event.

In British schools you wear school uniform throughout all of Primary and Secondary school (5-16) until you get to 'Sixth Form' (16-18) which is the UK equivalent of junior and senior year, basically just the two years before you go off to Uni or College. Those two years used to be optional but I think it's now mandatory for those born in or after '96 or '97. Although, in some Sixth Forms if you go to a particularly posh school you'll still be made to wear uniform. In indie films the cast at school is most likely to be in their late teens so the characters would probably be at Sixth Form age or have left school hence the no uniform.

6th form colleges (ones you go to at the ages of usually 16-18, though it's not compulsory and you can go later or do multiple extra years sometimes) usually don't have uniform, but the majority of Primary and secondary schools do... That said, I think my primary school (age 4/5- 11/12) didn't have compulsory uniform when I started there... I think it changed later though. But yeah, uniform is the standard for most schools in the UK.

If anything its more common for younger children to not require uniforms but then its most places for secondary (aka high school). The main argument is that its that age when kids get more appearance conscious, more competetive and judgemental, and having a uniform removes a distraction and makes it easier for students to be on an equal footing and focused on learning rather than what to wear.

ElderScrollsGamerFTW that's what I've been thinking but I think a problem with that would be their talking. On a TV show there is visual storytelling along with audio storytelling so they can talk over it without missing much. (thought they do still miss some incredible moments along with information that would help them answer a lot of questions) But with audio dramas there's only audio and I doubt they'd be able to stay quiet long enough to get all the plot points.

A lot of schools in the UK, nut not all, have a school uniform. As I understand it [and I'm ready to be corrected] the idea is to promote equality, where poorer kids don't feel shown up by other kid's high-end-fashion clothing. Possibly also to create a "uniform" ie coherent, cohesive appearance, a school identity Most public schools [which are actually private schools, high fees] have uniforms. not sure these days about secondary schools: I was at Grammar school in the late 60s and we had uniform then.

It always throw sme slightly when I hear Americans talking about "public schools"; I have to remember to make a mental adjustment. Public schools in the UK are not the same as public schools in the US. Most UK schools are state-funded, and usually referred to as "state schools", but public schools are fee-paying - and very high fees, too. UK public schools are actually private schools - the oldest ones started centuries ago, when the only schools were run by the Church, training would-be priests, so these were "public" in the sense that they were open to the public - or at least, the public that could afford them Been a long time since I was at school, but we had a uniform because it was a Grammar School; standard Secondary Schools didn't often have uniforms we had to pay for these uniforms, but nothing else: text books and exercise books were supplied. "pipes you drive over" we usually call "cattle grids" since they're mostly used to stop cows wandering about. There was a problem with these, since if small animals fell in they couldn't get out, so a lot of them have "escape" gaps in the base to let these small creatures out.

Okay this is absolutely not worth commenting on but its going to drive me nuts until I do. Why the hell does braxis and chimera fighting sound so damn familiar? They said its not on any of their videos on KZbin so I haven't heard it from them but I still feel like I've heard it. By best guess, reaching deep into the corners of my mind and grabbing the first thing I can so I don't over think, is something to do with a virus of some kind. I feel like I've also heard something about braxis, whatever it is, being either the polar opposite or archenemy of the chimera. Am I going insane or is what I'm describing sound familiar to at least someone else? I don't believe I'm right but I at least feel like I'm remembering a name wrong or mixing two different things together.

Apart from the fact that Boe being Jack is almost certainly something RTD threw in at the last minute because he thought it was fun, I always thought it was unlikely that simply aging for a looooong time would make you turn into a big head with weird flesh dreadlocks, so I have always preferred the idea that his eventual appearance is due to experiences he has gone through that changed him. Alien infections, DNA modification etc. so I think the case is still open on what human looking Jack can or cant regenerate from.
