I loved this vid Martin, it just shows how straightforward these little vertical crank engines are to work on. In fact, some 2 and 3.5 hp engines did come out of the Briggs & Stratton factory painted in gold in the 80s.

cracking little project that Martin, the engine looks right at home on the Trotter mower. when you used the piece of card, to set the gap between the coil pickup and flywheel, it took me right back to the days when id use a piece of a cig packet to set my cars points gap.

I like that valve spring compressor - that's the one aspect of Briggs' engines of all sizes that presents a massive challenge when removing the valves. I had to make up a special tool to remove the valves on a 12.5hp side valve Briggs' engine after spending many, many hours of frustration trying to remove the valve spring collets.

Martin went deep on the work for this one! Thanks for honing the cylinder, but remember, if you sandblast the head, you'll need to check the flatness, and sand it flat on your bench as such. Did the valve clearances look good? I thought you were going to lap them.
