Blondie was great, indeed. But still, they borrowed a lof from acts like Sparks (what they did in 1973-74 as well as 76-77). Also, since the 1970s, many singers and musicians have performed an eclectic mix of punk, rock&roll, pop, schlager, soul, folk, reggae, funk, jazz, etc. At least outside the USA.

Blondie has a pretty good variety of tracks. "One way or Another" shows a more rocking side while "The Tide is High" has a Reggae flavor. Many do not realize that "The Tide is High" was a cover tune of the by the old Jamaican Ska group "The Paragons".

This is probably my favorite Blondie cut, and that's saying something, as this band has a ton of great tunes. And for the record, this song was the title track from the movie "American Gigolo" sound track. So if the lyrics sound a little racy, it comes from a some what racy movie for the time.

He was in *Looking for Mr. Goodbar* and *Days of Heaven* etc. before that, but that movie may be the best candidate for the one that 'made' Richard Gere's career. Then his next was *An Officer and a Gentleman* and bam: superstar. That was quite a collection of directors he happened to be chosen by. As for Blondie, I'm surprised followers didn't encourage Brad to start with *Rapture.*

Produced and composed by Italian musician Giorgio Moroder, with lyrics by Blondie singer Debbie Harry, the song appeared in the film and was released in the United States in early 1980 as a single. "Call Me" was No. 1 for six consecutive weeks on the Hot 100 chart, where it became the band's biggest single and second No. 1.

Something you guys probably don’t know is Debbie Harry was an iconic figure in the NYC Graffiti world Specifically her face Graffiti writers ( Artists) would tag her face all over NYC Most notably on whole car tags ( Graffiti paintings that filled the whole outside of NYC subway trains ) Another really cool fact is Debbie Harry hosted Saturday Night Live in 1980 and instead of hosting and performing with her band Blondie ( recording artists who host get to host the show and still gets Two slots to perform their music) Debbie Harry decided to perform solo and not do a Blondie song but a cover of Teddy Pendergrass’s Love TKO Which was CRAZY F-ing COOL And she gave up her second slot to Sugar Hill records Harlem Hip Hop artists the FUNKY PLUS ONE and their song THAT’S THE JOINT Which to this day is my all time favorite HiP Hop song And it was the absolute FIRST time any Hip Hop artists performed LIVE on tv Still one of SNL’s greatest musical moments The other being Prince showing up unannounced to do his song Party Up in 1980 And the time the Hardcore LA Punk band FEAR performed with a gang of real NYC punk kid slam dancing all over the studio Getting the band banned for life and getting Cast member the late great John Belushi in a crap load of trouble with SNL’s creater and producer Lorne Micheals🤣🤣🤣

You're talking about the difference between head voice and chest voice - two distinct singing techniques both used well by Debbie Harry. In "Heart of Glass" and in the bridge of this song she was using her head voice; in the verses and chorus of this song, it was the more powerful chest voice. The heart of Blondie is Debbie's singing and Clem Burke's amazing drumming (check out the song "Dreaming" to hear Clem in full flight).

Lex is absolutely right. The nose helps regulate the air pressure which affects how you sound when you sing. There are many singers that normally would have gotten plastic surgery on their noses, but did not do so because they were afraid it would affect how they sounded. Barry Manilow and Barbra Streisand come to mind.

"Call Me" was used in Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo,, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, Bride Of Chucky, Pitch Perfect 3, Mindhunter • s2e2, RuPaul's Drag Race • s8e4, The Masked Singer • s1e2, Dirty Lines • s1e1, Westworld, American Gigolo • s1e1 and was the theme to the 1980 film American Gigolo .. and possibly more times as covers in other movies and TV shows that couldn't afford, or wouldn't spend, what it would cost for the right to a sampling. In other words, it's been heard a lot, as least in parts over the decades.

Blondie. Iconic. Originally is more of a punk band. But they have different sounds. Debbie Harry is one the most iconic front women of a band. Their sound is really diverse. One way or another, the ultimate stalker song. Rapture was ahead of its time.

It was the opening song to "American Gigolo" A great movie (albeit a bit dated). Richard Gere driving down the coastline with that Mercedes convertible going to his next client. Iconic

Lol I completely agree, Brad! When Heart Of Glass came out, I didnt care for it, but that cute blond singing it was EVERYTHING! One Way Or Another, and this song, were the next big songs and they were MUCH more to my taste. This song was from the American Gigolo soundtrack, and I believe this is kinda about a …uh… “female escort”, shall we say

re: noses - the nasal cavity is often used by singers to change the character of their voice. It's more the cavity behind the nose, opened by relaxing the soft palate and used as a bit of a resonance chamber to give more power and a more open sound to a vocal. I wrote a song years ago where I sang the chorus twice with it closed, and then open for the final crescendo. Debbie Harry is an outstanding vocalist (far better than me) and does use this technique as well. This song is sung open all the way, but she closes it for a softer, more muted tone in other songs.

Clem Burke is like a percussion machine driving this song... Like Stewart Copeland, he made his high-hat do incredible things. Growing up, this song was my favorite of Debbie Harry's... and if memory serves, she did it on the "Muppet Show" with Animal and the Muppet Show Band ^^

Should have watched the video to this song! Lex, the familiar part from Muse "Uprising" , yall reacted to them awhile back as well! Good ears. Also Brittany Spears song "Take Off" has a similar sound, cadence to this song.. Blondie and Pat Benatar used to sound similar to me in singing and accent, they are both from NYC, so that might be why. lol Blondie was a very talented unique group during the '70s and '80s. They could mix up new wave punk, disco, funk, rap, reggae, etc. Growing out of the NYC punk, CBGB club scene attributed to that and expanded their style and sound. Also the Studio 54 scene (disco club in NYC). Now is time for yall to check out punkier videos for "One Way or Another" , "Detroit 442" and also "Atomic". Atomic has a new wave, funky, disco sound still, too. But, it's very different, ethereal sounding. check them out.

You should check out her earlier song from 1980 "Rapture" is a combination of new wave, disco and hip hop with a rap section. It Is considered the first mainstream crossover RAP,ish song. Very interesting song for 1980. Most white had never heard rap style music before. With that said jimmi hendrix did a song dont remember the name but it had a rap flavor to it.

Another Band that successfully reinvented their sound from year to year depending on what was Hot & What was Not. This song was the theme song to the 1980 film American Gigolo starring Richard Gere. It was Produced and composed by Italian musician, and DISCO King Giorgio Moroder. It was there 3rd album Parallel Lines released September 1978 that put Blondie on Everyone’s mind.
