This is Blondie covering a 1967 song by the Jamaican band "The Paragons." The style is reggae. When she sings "I'm going to be your number one," it could be that she's referring to the first mate, a role on the ship which is second in command. So it's like a marriage proposal: "I'll be your wife."

@@shaundgb7367 Blondie started in the 1970s, in NYC. This song was on the album Autoamerican which was 1980. However, The Tide is High, is a cover song. Originally recorded by The Paragons. Blondie is so unique that they have lasted 50 years in an industry known to chew people up and spit them out. Debbie Harry also had some solo work, which was not too bad. You guys are just young - just discovering Blondie. I love you taking us along with you on your experience. So I will tell you about my long-time love of Blondie as a group: Gowing up in the 70s and 80s as a white (gay) male, this group just drew me to them. I love basic Punk rock simplicity of the songs, but I always loved Debbie Harry's vocals. Still do. Not lying. This was one of the few groups that was led by a female singer, and I think that's amazing in itself. There was a period in the late 80s early 90 in the anti-disco era where it wasn't considered acceptable for males to like her music, but I still kept the faith. I always loved Debbie Harry. To be honest, Debbie, and Blondie in general, were way ahead of their time, and I think that their music is just as relevant now than it was then. Or moreso. As a group, they were very diverse. They were a punk group headed by a sexy woman that then also introduced rap and reggae into the mix, and opened the doors for so many other people after them.Blondie was a seriously game-changing group. I've always felt that, but I also feel that they are not given their creative due. Blondie as a group is an amazing group. I've always thought that was true, but for a long time during the Ant-Disco Era, the message was that they weren't.Now I understand that that's a bunch of bullshit. The group is amazing. It's diverse. It crosses genres. Yes - all of these things. These guys, and Debbie Harry are amazing, and after thirty years of loving them but kind of sort of apologizing for that- I"m going to stop apologizing. I love this group. They were awesome in the 70s and they are awesome now. ou said it sounds like ska - and it is ska.

I'd like to float my theory here that Debbie Harry is one of the most underrated singers of the whole Post-Punk/New Wave Era. Bands used to put all their efforts into the albums. MTV didn't exist when this came out. TV stations were starting to figure out they could basically get free programming by playing promotional videos that band's put out. Because of that emerging market, bands started just banging together super-quick, super-cheap videos like this. They'd usually just find a few props and wing it for the camera. It didn't matter what it was, just something to get their songs played.
