Whoa, what a great comparison. I agree you both need to do more together.
@dralokad58624 жыл бұрын
I agree with everyone else...you guys should do MORE Comparison Videos! So many games have similar or updated versions that should be compared. You sounded very natural with each other and it showed. Keep up the awesome reviews!
@dearmrdw7 жыл бұрын
wow, this is a very strong video, you ought to do more of them together, guys! probably the only issue to look into is the lighting. Jason, any chances you are going full heavy cardboard on this channel? *_* It would be awesome to get 18xx and other much heavier games covered by you more often, especially with some special insight and discussion as in this video.

Great video but would have loved to see close up of Vernon's minis paint jobs. More please!

Vernon uploaded several high res photos to the boardgamegeek site, if you want close-ups. They're really gorgeous!

Great video, thanks for doing it! I didn't back Rising Sun because I'm just do happy with Blood Rage as it is. I prefer the theme and I don't really like negotiation. One thing I did get from this video is that......I need to paint my Blood Rage up. It's my favourite game and I've left if unpainted because of storage.

Great work and nice to see Jason again! He is so knowledgeable! When can we look forward to a walkthrough of his game collection? That would be "awesome". ;)

I have this game. Haven't yet played it. Question for those who has played it, was there anything about Rising Sun you didn't like? If so, what and why?

Yeah, it wouldn't take much editing to cut to a few, sharp close-ups of board detail & minis before this video would be superb. It's still a really good one though.

Another advantage of not being in an alliance is betray has no dishonor effect... So for instance being Lotus can be really strong without an ally.

You guys did such a great review! I honestly can't pick one over the other. They both shine in their strengths and it literally comes down to what both of you displayed: personal preference in style. This is why you should just buy both and be happy for doing so! lmao!

Does the Rising Sun box fit in IKEA shelf? The one Dice Tower uses?
@foyoGames7 жыл бұрын
Heikki Hegemon of course, just a standard 6 fold like legendary or champions of midgard
@fingolfinfinwe7 жыл бұрын
@Toan, do you have a copy on a Kallax shelf to confirm? Champions of Midgard's box size is slightly shorter than Blood Rage. In this video the Rising Sun box looks to be larger than Blood Rage, and I too am curious if it will still Kallax (or comparable) cube storage system.

Blood rage is a fast game for me. Pillage, battle cards, move on. Rising sun feels a bit slow. You wait for the war phase which is a bit at the end. When there is a battle, theres a lot of going on with the coin bidding on spaces then compare spaces. It's a down time for those not involved with the battle. Furthermore, you are playing the game for small few points, unlike in blood rage, you immediately see how much points you will be getting every battle and age; it is easier to plan ahead. I say, blood rage is faster, simpler, and more interactive.
@Marco483753 жыл бұрын
Yea Rising Sun is pretty smart, but Blood Rage is just more fun. It's more intuitive and a new player will understand the flow quick enough. With Rising Sun not much. Also, when drafting, a good number of cards are out of rotation each game, so you can't reliably play the same strategy each time.

Having finally played Rising Sun, I feel that it is a very good game, but has perhaps one too many moving parts. Blood Rage was basically near-perfection that was a hard act for any designer to have to follow up with. The only complaint about Blood Rage seems to be that those with more experience will crush those without, but honestly that's a very good trait of a game, not the opposite. Experience should be rewarded.

When ya'll were doing comparisons of the secondary actions, you mentioned Twilight Struggle, but didn't you mean Twilight Imperium? Great video and after watching, I am fine with sticking with Rising Sun over Blood Rage (sorry Sam)which is def in my top area control games now:)

Man, if that's the board size, I'm super glad I didn't shell out for the Neoprene mat. It's like... half again as big, and I just wouldn't have anywhere to set it up.

Is there any logic in having both games or does RS Kill BR and the older Brother is unlikely to hit the table?
@mindstormsgames89706 жыл бұрын
Having played both, I think it’s definitely worth having both of them. They are not that similar really. The only similarities are: area control, mini figures and division into ages/seasons. The game mechanics are totally different. Rising Sun is slightly more complex and requires at least 3 players. Blood Rage is easier to learn, faster and can be played by at least 2 players. Setup time for Blood Rage is also shorter. Which means you can probably play it more often - even on weekdays, even against less experienced players. Rising Sun is a masterpiece.

I think rising sun is the kinda game where i want the miniatures but dont care about the game.
@delryn2566 жыл бұрын
Bigger everything doesn't mean better. Rising Sun is a more detailed game, takes longer to play, has more downtime. Blood Rage is fast and brutal. Massive board and giant minis mean nothing to me if the game itself isn't what I'm looking for. BR is the better game overall and it's BGG ranking compared to RS reflects that.
@justified19964 жыл бұрын
I've only played Rising Sun with 3 players and the alliances are way too powerful and makes the game ridiculously imbalanced with only 3 players. I love the bidding behind the screen mechanic (a little like Revolution! or that old ninja game - can't remember the name). I enjoyed Rising Sun and I'd be interested to play it again with 4+ players but think, at least for 3 players, the imbalanced overpowering embedded in the alliances ruins the game for me.

I really dont like that the areas in bloodrage r limited to 3 to 5 figures....if one is full u cant do anything about it (just with ur ship).
@HALOX307 жыл бұрын
Yeah Tom Vassel, dont ask for coins to have an aliance lol.....
@Watcher41877 жыл бұрын
Not a bad idea actually. If there is an obvious strong player in the game it would make sense to demand payment for an alliance which will further benefit the already strong player.

Get that rising sun to the right outta the shot! Lighting is important! Otherwise, great video! Just would love to see your filming improve in some simple ways. Even just some cheap thrift store desk lamps with those bendable necks you can point towards your subject off camera would work wonders! Put different kinds of paper in front of it to control it a bit. It's really simple and doesn't need studio equipment.

I have Rising Sun, played it a bunch of times, painted it up I am looking at buying Blood Rage ... I decided not to buy the Ankh game that is too weird with the mergers. In Rising Sun playing with odd number of people is bad because you really need an ally.
