Thank you for explaining this plainly. I've watched a video before this, that was unfortunately too complicated for me, so i quit it and found yours. I'm not a medical student, far from it. I'm actually an art student, but curious about life in general. So thank you for the video, I enjoyed and actually feel like i've retained the knowledge.

If group O has antibodies against A, and B, how can it give blood to them?
@nainfatima44335 жыл бұрын
It only matters for the presence or absence of antigens now in group A there are antigen A so it would have anti b antibody so it won't take blood from group B and group AB but it would take blood from O group because group A only has anti b antibody not anti O antibody. Did you get it?

The way it works is, when someone donates blood, the 'plasma' (which is the liquid part of the blood that contains the antibodies) is separated from the red blood cells. So, when you get a blood transfusion, you actually only get the red blood cells from type O blood (which as you already know, don't have antigens) but you don't get the plasma which contains the harmful antibodies. Your question is a common one because many of these videos leave out the part about the plasma being separated from the red blood cells before transfusions, so people get confused. Hope I helped! :-)

I have a question. If I get it right, the antibodies react against specific antigens. So when AB blood type, which has both antigens but no antibodies receives let's say, A type blood, doesn't this A blood type sample contain Anti B Antibodies? So why wouldn't it destroy the AB red cells if they contain A and B (the one that matters here) antigens?

can any one help me by saying the exact function of Rh factors (Rhesus) in blood? Thank you!
@ozunu14373 жыл бұрын
You said Blood group O can give blood to other groups. But the problem is that Blood type O has anti-A and anti-B antibodies. Therefore, you cant give O-blood group to person with blood group A or B (because they contain antigen A and antigen B).
@sammy-bo3ss3 жыл бұрын
Usually components of blood are separated before transfusion (RBCs, plasma, platelets) and most of the time, transfusion is only per component (not whole blood). Blood group O can give "RBCs" to blood groups A, B and AB simply because their anti-A/ anti-B are in plasma not on RBCs.

And O negative blood is a totally doffeeent story. It’s important that you express this. Blood Theo O negative do not the same as O blood. O negative cannot take blood from anyone, but O negative blood. O negative is the purest blood.
