I found out he's one of my distant ancestors John Rogers, also known as John Rogers of Deritend, was an English clergyman and Bible translator who lived during the 16th century. He is primarily remembered for his work on the Matthew Bible, which was one of the early English translations of the Bible. John Rogers is also notable for being the first Protestant martyr under Queen Mary I of England. He was indeed burned at the stake in 1555 during the Marian Persecutions, which targeted Protestants. God could make all Human Being "Tow the Line" and Obey Him, but He doesn't; why? Answer: To force free willed creatures made in the "Image of God" to believe in and worship God is not TRUE WORSHIP, and does not please God. Jesus told "the Woman at the well" that God desires that people "Worship Him in Spirit and Truth." John 4:19-26 For this to happen we each "must be born anew" by the Spirit of God. Been watching all these horrific execution story-telling videos of Medieval England. The xtreme cruelty that this time was plagued with for alleged sedition was phenomenal. It puts it on par and even exceeds in some cases some of the cruelty from modern day religious extremists. It boggles the mind why the victims refused to agree to the terms, which would have meant they wouldn't have undergone those horrific executions but, I guess they were just as extreme in their beliefs and were principled, brave and fearless enough to accept whatever horrors awaited them. They must have been true believers.

Not brave - just cerbrally challenged by indoctrinated belief in the supernatural. Jane Grey is another example, Mary tried very hard to get her to recant her Protestant faith and accept the Mass, but she refused, Jane would not and could not accept the supernatural transubstantiation, which all Catholics believe;tThe quite ludicrous notion that at the Eucharist the wine and the bread is literally body and blood. Even now in the 21st century when one hopes people are better educated they still hang onto this quite bizarre notion. Jane would always have been a threat to he throne so her execution was inevitable. It. said that her confessor at the scaffold who was an RC had never witnessed such piety and faith.That's what blind faith can do to people.

That's not a bad observation. The Reformation and Brexit have a lot of parallels. I dare say there are similarities to the Reformation and Trumpism. Brexit/Trumpism and the Reformation saw an elevation of the nation-state. I think there is a bit of a historical parallel between Mary I and Barack Obama - first female English sovereign and first POC POTUS. Mary I and Joe Biden - returning the nation to 'normalcy'. The Biden comparison is better because of the substance of policy, but both Biden and Obama have the similarity with Mary I with their deference to international institutions. Perhaps Clinton's (and other Democrats) claims of Russian collusion were a bit like the rebellion led by Sir Thomas Wyatt that tried to put Lady Jane Grey on the throne. Yeah, that's not bad at all. Although not a perfect analogy, certainly one worth 'playing' with. Historical analogies obviously do fall down, especially this one (with Mary I and Obama, Biden or Trump), simply because they are different people in different situations with different ideas and values. However, looking at historical analogies and counter-factual situations people are able to learn more about the actual history rather than just the dates of historical events. The American Revolution of 1776 is historically more significant and has had a deeper and wider impact than the French Revolution of 1789 on modern politics. The American revolutionaries also had the good sense to not go too far as the French revolutionaries did. However, to misquote Chairman Mao when asked about the French Revolution, "Its too early too tell."

@@justinm4497 Humanists are all atheists and they get along very well.In fact they make it their purpose in life to accept and tolerate all faiths whilst having none themselves. That certainly cannot be said of all the monotheisms: Sunni v Shite; Catholic v Protestant and others - sectarianism that motivates people to commit murder, torture and fearful acts of terrorism in the name of their warped beliefs.

Can I ask what is the title of the music you have in the background it sounds so soothing while listening to your voice. Can I ask why you make these documentaries; is it a hobby or are yo trying to get experience in the teaching field or should I just mind my own business. Have a nice day and God bless. By the way my opinion is you are very good at bringing over the information.

Hi Paul, it's a hobby if i'm honest. I already have significant experience in the teaching field as this is my day job. I do this because I enjoy bringing stories to people. It started out as a hobby to get myself out and exploring different historical sites, so I'd take my camera out and about. It's carried on like this, but due to lockdown I've had to look for different stories and so on :) Its definitley the thing I've stuck to the most. Thanks for your comment!

It actually has done a lot of good for society. However, most people like to focus on the bad done by religion, in order to justify their ignorance and contempt of it. For instance the mere fact that we have a society at all, is due to religion.
@christystewart45673 жыл бұрын
@@birgittabirgersdatter8082 no we have a society because humans are social animals. How that society is set up depends on many factors, in some cases including religion, but that isn’t the only reason for society’s existence.

@@baddoopey an interesting aside. Dwight Eisenhower as a young man made a trip across the US by horseback and noted the pitch patch roads. When he was in Germany durning the war he noted their highways and wanted to do same for the US. Hence the interstate freeway system.

On of the most offensive things to a gentle sensitive Scottish person is when some oaf mistakes Mary Stuart or Queen of Scots, and Mary Tudor. The latter is an evil tyrant, the former a completely innocent victim.

Since I'm from the US, I never could understand why 2 factions of Christianity could be so violent and hateful towards each other. As I matured and learned more about the history of GB, it became clear it was more of a power struggle with religion used as the weapon. I'm so glad it's not so much like that anymore, especially for the people of Ireland. King Henry VIII changed everything because he so desperately wanted a male heir and wanted a divorce from Catherine. It never did quite turn out the way he wanted with several wives(some who were executed) to have 1 male heir that unfortunately died young. Then the legitimacy of Queen Elizabeth I vs Mary Stuart. Not a good ending for Mary, but her son did become King James and gave us the 1st Bible printed in modern English of the time. I don't know how good a ruler he was. You have a very long and interesting history with many complex players and occurrences. I'm glad we've been allies instead of enemies for a long time now.
