38 years is too long for justice and the truth to be revealed. That said, I advocate for prosecutions for those soldiers who killed the 14 innocent civilians.

What a fantastically dignified response this was to a long awaited inquiry. Now is the time for all to keep their heads, redouble their efforts and move on to the next stage in Ireland's long, peaceful and prosperous future.

@CTRILEY i understand. Some of the comments i have read on this post are disgraceful. innocent people have died, on both sides for centuries. it must be time we started to understand what this is really about and move on for the benefit of one and all. To do this, we must all understand what we have to gain is (possibly painfully) greater than what we have lost.

@FranticGra Porterloo was in 1819. Bloody Sunday is still fresh in many peoples minds. People who were directly affected are still alive today, even some of those who were shot, but not killed. Justice

@badmattam people died through a civil war they were killed by terrorists, but on this day people were killed by the state, by the very people supposedly drafted in to protect them, and as if this wasnt bad enough, to make it all look better in the eyes of the world they lied.. it was covered up and the families who lost loved ones, didnt just have to bear the grieve but the humiliation of having their families associated with terrorists.

thank you! The only thruth to come it's mouth yet. Let's hope it's rule will follow suit. (doubt it) We all knew the truth anyway, it's disgusting it has taken this long. ( I cannot relate to politicians as human, so they will be referred to as 'it' until 'it' shows proof that 'it' is human) x

@TheJay9002 i wholeheartedly agree that things had to change for the catholic community at that time. But surely not the murder of so many people over two decades of carnage.it's ironic that british troops were welcomed into catholic areas at the beginning of the 'troubles'.... Lest we forget, troops were under fire from parties unknown as well as mobs of stone/brick throwing youths. It was utter chaos(peaceful?) I'm not condoning what happened however there is a flipside to the coin.

@nicknag321 how can u think that...... an report carried out by the british government just said thatrs what happened n u dont accept this on the basis of ur opinion???? n even if they were provoked by say abuse or even throwing stuff ect doesnt justify using life ammunition on unarmed civilians!!

@Klytame6 I disagree with the wars in afghanistan and iraq. I also disagree with the IRA's disastrous campaign of violence. I don't think the asian community is going to take over britain. I think you've been listening to the BNP if you think that. The brits will leave ireland if that's what the people of NI want. There was no need for violence.

You are part of Her Majesty's subjects of the United Kingdom embrace it or go south to the free state, return your UK passports, I'm sure felloow free staters will be happy to see you. If you carry on with this silly talk and continuity IRA rubbish then troops will have to be sent back to put you in your place! Oh don't forget it's 100 yrs since the Delhi Durbar of 1911, another great moment for us British, so jog on!

@wasssuppp08 If your sure the decision to shoot civies was taken higher up you must have some strong evidence to support such a serious claim. Somehow I doubt it though!!

@caoimhin1111 Apology accepted lol...all kidding aside,my history may be a little hazy but weren't troops sent in to protect catholic families(estates) from being victimised(burned-out,evicted,beaten-up and/or murdered etc.) by para-militaries from BOTH sides of the divide?.primarily from protestant gangs burning out catholic house holds but also from republican gangs intimidating those that didn't tow the party line.'Imperialism'?.... certainly not. Peace-keeping? .....yes. Am i wrong?!!

@badmattam how were these people who were MURDERED responsible for the actions of others??? by that reasoning do u think its ok for the U.S. army to go into a iraqi town n open fire on cilivains n use 9/11 as an excuse?

@annabanana60 That is probably true however only because the IRA sought(ensured more like) and got refuge in catholic areas. The very areas that the troops were trying to protect were at the same time harbouring(by choice or not) known IRA men,it was an impossible situation. I love our army however they SHOULD have done better on that day(bloody sunday). They were young men themselves(facing a rioting cauldron of bricks, stones, bullets and hate) put in yet another impossible situation....peace.

I think this whole 'apology' business is disgraceful and Cameron is a political and moral coward.Hundreds of millions(£) have been spent on various enquiries for the deaths of 13 people during one incident.Where may i ask is the enquiry for the 3,000 odd policemen/women,soldiers and innocent civilians that were shot or blown to pieces by the IRA? When do they have their day in court huh?Mcguinness and his ilk gloating on tv today, would make any right thinking person sick to the stomach.
