That's the one thing i like about Bob. If there was a malfunction, he gave the contestant the prize (if it was close and it was the show's fault). There have been others like this. Most other shows would likely tell you "sorry" and I'm sure that in the small print, it states they aren't responsible for errors, but good to see that Bob always does the right thing. After all, I suspect these prizes are all "sponsored" (given) to the show in exchange for free advertising through the game show.

On Family Feud, Richard Dawson, reversed the judges’ call one time. Obviously, the show had to go along with it, but it didn’t make the producers happy. He states as part of the rules that the contestant will win if the mountain climber doesn't fall off the cliff. The mountain climber did not fall off the cliff, so they had to give the win. I remember a couple technical wins (could have been the same rerun) where the mountain climber should have stopped on 25 but went over, and gave a technical win because it happened on prize 2 and the game was called, when they still had a chance to guess prize 3 correctly and properly win.

I’m sure the contestants are given a rule book backstage to sign with all the official rules and a disclaimer that the host does not have final say. But it’s nice that the host has discretion.
@wschmrdr Жыл бұрын
@@stephenbeck7222 That may be true with shows where they aren't picking people out of the audience (Randy Amasia was kind enough to show us the "Whew!" official rules while he was still with us), but that's near impossible when you have to process 300 people that don't know they might be selected while accounting for 50-some active games. There might be something a little more general and all-encompassing (perhaps a former potential contestant reading this could elaborate), but it wouldn't be every single nuance. For example, someone who worked on the show mentioned for the game "Flip Flop", the host is only legally required to say "Flip, Flop, or Flip Flop". You probably don't see that in a sign-off, though....

The combination of the creepy yodeling music, having no idea as a viewer when the climber would stop, the somewhat worried expression on the climber’s face to begin with combined with him often meeting his traumatic end onscreen (whenever I watched, anyway) made for some serious nightmare fuel back in the day! I can laugh about it now, but back then, nothing ruined a sick day at home more than knowing that poor climber was no longer with us. He did seem to make it back week in and week out as good as new regardless of what happened the last time out, so that was mildly reassuring…until he took yet another header off the top, of course!
