3:06 Throttle in this game works similarly to old versions of Derail Valley: each notch has a hard speed limit. #10 is roughly 35 kph, and #15 gives about 55 kph.

Nice stuff Hyce! Just a few pointers. Firstly, the heaters don't really break as such until you get down to 0%, but they just become slowly less effective as the percentage drops. Note early on in the series they were doing a nice job of keeping the cab upwards of 20C, but now, I don't think your cab got above about 11C this episode. Also, there's another hidden heater I think you're missing. Under the things that look like footplates at the driver and conductors feet there is heaters, when the steam/smoke on the conductors side is coming from, that's a heater that's already knackered. The bears, or any other wild life you kill for that matter, can be skinned with the knife, and the coat sold at a foresters lodge for money. Cool stuff!

-30 F for me, before windchill was added. Magical place called Central Wyoming on the road between Rawlins and Casper. My truck’s thermometer literally froze in place at -30, so no idea how much colder it actually was, and even plugged in to heat the engine (2005 F-250 6.0L “sicko” diesel with 275k miles on it at the time) the power cord froze and didn’t work until noon the next day, so was a painful start (can be done, I just prefer not to wreck my engines if I can). But yeah, cold is a crazy thing. By science, “cold” does not exist, it’s “an absence of heat”, just like darkness is just an absence of light.
@gbwdude3 ай бұрын
Oddly enough, my coldest temp was also in Wyoming but in Green River. Temp was -42 before wind chill and as you know it's always windy in Wyoming, making it -58 with wind chill. Even more fun, that's when I was working for Union Pacific and I tore my seat that night because of how cold my vinyl seat was, my wallet broke the stitching.

48:30 Fun fact: deer kill more people than moose, when they see a car coming, moose tend to put their head down like they're preparing to buck antlers, the engine area takes the brunt of the damage, but deer tend to freeze, slide onto the hood and through the windshield, and then kick in a frenzy trying to free themselves, repeatedly kicking anybody in the front seats in the process.

The "shch" is supposed to represent the sound of "Щ" but fails at doing so. Basically you pronounce "Mocheshche" as "Mocheshye" because Щ is really just a soft Ш (Sh) Edit: reason is that Ш (Sha) is always a hard consonant, while Щ (Shya) is always soft and also pronounced more at the front of the mouth. Hope this helps!

what I want to know is why the brake gauge read out as flow velocity, I think they tried to represent pascals as it's derived unit, but got force wrong, they took force as being kg*s, when it's (kg*m)/(s^2), so pressure is in units of kg/(m*s^2)... SI formal units are cursed which is why newtons and pascals exist XD, but as it stands they have mass flow rate over area, which should work out to flow velocity if I've done physics right
@Knsgf3 ай бұрын
The correct unit for brake gauges is actually kgf/cm². The developers mistakenly thought that "кгс" in russian stands for kg * s, whereas it's really kgf (kilogram-force).
@crazychris9603 ай бұрын
Yeah, the brake gauges really confused me at first because none of them work as you'd expect, but you get used to it haha.

Normally on the pantographs they have carbon strips that contact the overhead catenary, with the zigzag in the catenary to keep the carbon strip from getting a groove so you use the most amount of carbon before changing them. However, im sure they use much stronk material than carbon here so no need to worry about groove forming. If want to see big spark, let the carbon strip wear all the way down to the metal base 😉

Ok, this is how you pronounce the "shch" sound in Russian. Level I: The "shch" combination is used to represent the Cyrillic letter Щ. This sound used to be pronounced like a Sh-sound followed by a Ch-sound. This is still how it is pronounced in Ukrainian. However, in modern Russian the sound is actually much more simple. It is simply another Sh-like sound. Level II: The first difference between the Russian Sh-sound (or rather the letter Ш) and the "shch" sound (letter Щ) is that the "shch" sound is pronounced with double length. In other words, you say it longer, like saying "fresh shallots," or like shushing someone. Thus "borshsh" is really just "borsshh." Level III (Pro): Russian Sh-sound (Ш) is not actually the same as English Sh-sound. The English Sh-sound is actually in-between the Russian Sh-sound and Shch-sound. Thus, to understand how to make both these sounds correctly, you actually have to relearn how to make a Sh-sound. The English Sh-sound is made by putting a lot of your tongue on the top of your mouth, on both the front part (the alveolar ridge) and the soft middle part (the soft palate). The Russian Sh-sound is made by putting only the tip of your tongue on the top of your mouth. You have to curl your tongue back a bit to do this, so it is called a "retro-flex" sound. English R is actually also a retro-flex consonant, so if you say an R-sound, hold your tongue in that spot, and then move it closer to the roof of your mouth, you will make the Russian Zh (Ж) sound. Then, if you whisper this sound instead (that is don't use your vocal cords), you get the Russian Sh-sound. The Russian Shch sound (Щ) is actually simpler. It's in-between an S-sound and an English Sh-sound. Make an S-sound, then move your tongue slowly till you're making an Sh-sound, then go back to S. You'll notice that in-between these two sounds you'll make a rather sharper sounding Sh of a sound. That's the Russian Shch sound! Finally, don't forget that the sound is extra long, as explained in level II. Now you eat your borshch like you are from the motherland! Or, if you want to be Ukrainian instead, you can do the sh+ch thing as the transliteration suggests. Or maybe you want to be Jewish and speak Yiddish, in which case you turn it into a sht sound, which is how Americans get "borscht." Level IV (Linguist): If you can say the Russian Sh and Shch sounds correctly, congratulations you can now say the Mandarin Sh and X sounds correctly. Mandarin Sh is like Russian Sh, and the pinyin X is used to represent the same sound as Shch, albeit not double length. You also can now pronounce the Japanese Sh sound correctly. Japanese Sh is actually like the Russian Shch sound, because it is a variant of their S sound found before an /i/ or /y/ sound, so like Russian Shch it is closer to an S than English Sh. Again though, the Japanese Sh sound is not long like the Russian Shch.
